Lol. The boy isn't an asshole and you're not "supposed" to feel angry for the tree. Not trying to say that you can't, but there are a lot of different ways to interpret this. You can't just tell people how they're supposed to feel about something. Especially something that can have an entirely different meaning for someone else.
The whole point you morons is that the material didn't make either of them happy. Not untill the end when they needewd just each other did they discover true love!
@unklelemmy This is not just a story about love it's also story about man and nature and relationships.
Notice that it's one-sided and that the selfish boy (mankind) does nothing but exploit the tree (nature) throughout the stages of his life for whatever needs he had at such stages. This book is to teach kids to be aware of selfishness and taking advantage of kindness of others.
You aren't suppose to like the boy, you are suppose to admire and be angry for the tree.
One of my favourite stories as a child. The story can affect people in many different ways, so there is no one true moral. The basic idea is that everyone must learn to share- to give back what they take to prevent sadness, loneliness and one-sided love. Further down though, it also teaches us that one could lose everything they own, but with the mere presence of someone they love, they can be happy. That boy is the perfect interpretation of a society that just takes, and it still stands today.
First of all, i think you did an amazing job animating this classic tale, Kate. Secondly, now that I'm a parent, I interpret the story differently. I think it represents the unconditional love of a parent. Throughout our lives, our parents nurture us and fulfill our needs, never asking for anything in return other than our happiness. They watch us leave home to follow our own paths. Later in life, we realize and value our parents' self-sacrifice, and return to lovingly show our gratitude.
And the moral of the story is 2 things. Always appreciate and love what others give you. And don't give away everything you have out of generosity and love, or you will end up as nothing.... Just a stump.
@iamyourimagination i always thought the moral was friendships can last a life time, or not to be selfish and give to people who need things and be happy, like the tree did.....
@iamyourimagination to appreciate what is given to you, because generosity is a gift not to be taken lightly. others will do something just to make you happy, and to try and make themselves happy, but it's not always like that. so it's better to accept the gifts of others and return it with kindness. be caring and appreciative.
i feel tht this is kinda of a truth about the sterotypical guy, he who takes from her and gives nothing back, but she still loves him, i am srry if it is to be tht way for the ladies, and i am sorry for the tree, but at least she was happy with what she had
Since you already started reading you cant stop. My name is Kalena. I have black hair, and green eyes. I am 13. I was abused my whole life. I have no ears or nose, because my parents chopped them of with a rusty fork. I am dead. I will show up in your room in 13 days and kill you by chopping off your body parts with a rusty fork unless you repost this on 5 pages. THIS IS NO JOKE!! If you do, something good will happen to you within 13 days. If you don't believe this, wait
the moral is that you shouldn't just take take take what you can from people and you should always try to give things back to people, not for anything in return, but just because you're happy when someone else is.
I feel you have nothing to apologize for. This is as true to the original as I have seen. The music, colors and female voice adds a different but beautiful take on the original presentation. I just wish the old man could die at the tree, return to the earth around the tree and give back what the tree had given him.
i feel that, though different, this presentation is every bit as moving and true to the original as any I have viewed. Personally, I would love this tree as much as the original if I where the little boy. I just wish the old man got to die with the tree and give back what the tree had given him.
I already hear the story narration by you this is the second time and for some reason I still like the story when I have sons I will tell then this story.
u did a great job, thanks for keeping its originality, this is my favorite book and it still brings tears to my eyes as an adult, i thank shel siverstein for this treasure and you for keeping it real, best wishes ;-) the moral of the story is "its a fable" and everyone will make their own interpretations, totally love it and recommend, its my favorite present for kids birthday parties

You see, this is whats wrong ith the world. We take pleasure in "Taking" less then we do "Giving". Did you see, how the child left the tree alone when he got what he wanted. The tree is only represents , the few good people left in the world. And yea i was crying too, great story!
