Notice that it's one-sided and that the selfish boy (mankind) does nothing but exploit the tree (nature) throughout the stages of his life for whatever needs he had at such stages. This book is to teach kids to be aware of selfishness and taking advantage of kindness of others.

You aren't suppose to like the boy, you are suppose to admire and be angry for the tree.

One of my favourite stories as a child. The story can affect people in many different ways, so there is no one true moral. The basic idea is that everyone must learn to share- to give back what they take to prevent sadness, loneliness and one-sided love. Further down though, it also teaches us that one could lose everything they own, but with the mere presence of someone they love, they can be happy. That boy is the perfect interpretation of a society that just takes, and it still stands today.

First of all, i think you did an amazing job animating this classic tale, Kate. Secondly, now that I'm a parent, I interpret the story differently. I think it represents the unconditional love of a parent. Throughout our lives, our parents nurture us and fulfill our needs, never asking for anything in return other than our happiness. They watch us leave home to follow our own paths. Later in life, we realize and value our parents' self-sacrifice, and return to lovingly show our gratitude.

Why "remake" the original audio and colors if the original is still a jewel on itself? It is more sad and inspiring than this one. This one loses all the magic completely, especially with that awful background music that doesn't fit it at all.
