Why doesn't Jetblue get a channel where passengers can listen to the pilots and the air traffic controllers. United has channel 9 and I enjoy listening to it very much. Come on Jetblue. I would be much happier if you guys could add it to your line-up in flight.
@husky757 yeah I saw that. It will give the plane a better 'range'. No more stops during the winter months 1/2 way while doing a cross country flight to W. coast for fuel.
I enjoyed this pre-takeoff and takeoff clip. It gives people who never flew and are considering flying but are afraid a good view as to what goes on as you're seated in the aircraft and what happens. I flew years ago (even was a student pilot) and LOVE it!! Maybe I'll get to fly someday but it's a GREAT experience! Thanks for posting!
Wrong, GE and Snecma are joined to make CFM engines, these engines on JetBlue's planes are IAE engines. IAE entails Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce, and some other smaller companies.
@atav They chose the IAE because it is a more fuel efficeint engine than the CFM-56. I tested both engines in FSX using the wilco A320 loaded with 10000 lbs. of cargo and only the left and right tanks full. The IAE flew almost 2 times as far as the CFM on the same amount of fuel
@JATO457 It's not all about fuel costs. The CFM burns slightly less fuel in lower altitudes, produces slightly more thrust in climb, but has a slightly higher SFC in cruise. More important to an airline are maintenance costs, support from the manufacturer, integration costs, and costs of acquisition, among other things. Obviously your flight simulator model is flawed, as the IAE isn't twice as fuel efficient as the CFM in the real-world. Their fuel burns are largely similar.
@BobWeaver112 well, it isn't the best sim, but i also said that maintainance costs were lower for the IAE in jetBlue's case and that jetBlue is using a facility that specializes in IAE's
@Flyglobespan93 Yes, the IAE costs slightly more for the engine, but that is soon canceled out by the fuel efficiency and maintainance costs of the IAE over the CFMI
I am scared to death of flying and wonder if anyone has any tips for me? My health insurance won't cover any "fear of flying" therapists, but I need help.
@mgdrummer78 Don't look out the window and tell your self everything will be ok. Think about the excellent safety record that commercial airline transportation has today.
They do that so the plane doesn't stall. With so much forward thrust the nose continues to rise. So to compensate they lower the engines so the nose lowers
@nywellingtonman the nose doesnt continue to rise. they really dont need to compensate at all. The main reason they do this is for noise abatement. Lowering the engine power after takeoff actually causes more stress and pressure on the cylindrical base of the engine. Full power is the best way to go because it offers complete contant airflow and zero stress to the engine and wing.
@deltaa98 Quite the opposite. The engines are throttled back to climb power to reduce stress on the engines, and because a standard climb rate doesn't require takeoff thrust. This is standard operating procedure and has nothing to do with noise abatement. Not sure what you mean by "complete constant airflow." Contrary to what you stated, a jet engine is under the most stress when it is at full power.
Wow, you got the radio transmissions too! You never get that to hear that when u watch these kinds of videos! You made it more realistic, thanks a lot! :)
i think you need to buy a scanner unless your flying united airlines, where they have channel 9, which allows you to listen to the ATC on the inflight entertainment system
the thing that concerns me with flying is the time it takes to de-plane an aircraft at the best of times on large aircraft. What must it be like in an emergency. FLying itself is cool but the hassles of it are getting to & around massive airports & security lines & restrictions on liquids have made flying a joke. HAs anybody else noticed that their clothes stink of exhaust fumes after flying. Is it true about the running on petrol fumes
Last time I was on JetBlue, the DirecTv was broken, so we had to "entertain ourselves" for 6 hours. Trust me, it was a hell of a lot of fun, I missed my favorite program :(
If you're going to fly for the 1st. time, flying Jet Blue would be an excellent airline company to start you off with. Most of Jet Blue's fleet is under 10 years old, and they use mostly Airbus A320, which is a beautiful aircraft. They have nice leather seats, everyone has their own in flight entertainment , with cable/satellite/ and a gps to give the passengers that information on the altitude, speed, and location of the aircraft in relation to your destination.
On jetBlue's seatback Personal TV system, the channel with the live moving map of the flight's location should include the flight's comms with ATC on the audio.
Ooh very nice, sir! did you have a radio with you? did you turn it off just after takeoff? i wouldn't have if is was smart enough to think of something genius like that.. lol nicely done!
