Oh. My. God. You were right about this beer. If I had the chance to rate it side-by-side with Hopslam I would be able to tell you which one I like better. And I don't even have the freshest batch, I have batch 14. Thank you so much for hyping this for me, you were not off at all.
I am getting a bottle (probably not from the newest batch) this upcoming Thursday with my buddy, a huge IIPA fan. I got him all stoked for this one too, and going off of your review, I can imagine this will be a mind-blowing experience.

I don't recall it being as hoppy as you're saying here. The balance of the beer is downright remarkable. No idea how they pulled off 10%+ with such grace haha

Yeah man....I have to agree, I have quite an extensive palate for different styles of beer, but Maharaja is the holy grail for me. Some Imperials IPA's tend to turn me off, but this thing is just an absolute masterpiece. My favorite beer ever! Great review!
I am with you on this one. My wife and friends consider me a beer snob yet I never ever told them or anyone that I had one particular favorite beer BEFORE Maharaja. This beer has balls. It's loaded with hops, has the perfect malt balance I love and it's not afraid to say, "yeah, here's a bit of alcohol" for you." Just a great beer!

@BeerGeekNation it was batch 13. when i go back to the shop i got it in ill have to look for batch 14. it was great even with the bit of age on the bottle

@BeerGeekNation Hoptomic will be in Tampa this coming Saturday and Avery will have several different IPA's there, including Maharaja on tap. I have been drinking heavily the last few weeks to build my tolerance up since there are so many beers I want to try.
Just finished a bottle of batch 13 and i have to say i'm not very fond of this beer. I like my IPA's and DIPA's a lot more clean then this. I found it overly sweet with way too much caramel malty presence. To be honest i give it B- and probably wouldn't seek it out again.
@bigmike11676 Ive heard complaints about the maltiness from a few people now. This years was def more malt forward then batch 12 but I think its worked nicely with the hop profile. But thats the beauty of beers
your liqour store must have one hell of a distributor! the variety you get is amazing. +1 for Avery man! loving the channel as always. Oh and hey thanks for the heads up on the glassware ie. Spiegelau. Loving them

Wow something I am missing. I tried this last year wasn't impressed. I figured i'd give another try picked up a few more bottles for this year's batch and was more unimpressed. I do not even think Pliny & Hops is even a fair comparison. Way too diff types of beers. It was not a bad beer but nothing i'd put in my top 10 IIPA's . I said it many times once you get a hold of Knuckle Sand which you might have a new # 1. Esp Fresh. Good review none the less.
dude, i dont know how you score some of these seasonals so fresh. i probably wont see this in my stores for about a month or two. distribution around my area lacks in northern ca. i love this beer, but i think hopslam wins it for me....

When I did the 100 different beers in a year thing at my local craft beer bar I made the Maharaja my #100 beer and it did not let me down. Great review!

This beer's hard to beat for sure. I don't have an official no.1 at this point, but RR's Consecration is on top3 for me.
I love how this beer starts off with big hops up front, but it's like the opening curtains of an exciting story about to be told with flavor; and the maharaja is the lead role to the opera.

I had this on draft a few days ago at the flying saucer! It was glorious...this batch tasted a little different though to me...a little less tropical and a little more resiny...I need to pick up a bottle though and see the difference

I can see why you dig this one so much. It's a little more sticky and overly sweet than I'd prefer but it's still a great beer.

So far I've only had their Czar imperial stout. It was very big and very good. In fact, I got pretty freakin hammered off it.

We are pretty damn close on our thoughts on this beer. I just drank mine a bit too cold when I started the review.
It's a crime that I can still buy bottles from 2009 at one store I go to.
