I am a Master Electrician, this is all wrong!!, there is an easy way and a hard way to do this, this is the hard way. Look @ 4;18 the wires are all twisted and wil cause a short circuit, maybe not today but it will. Look @ 4:50, never twist wires with your fingers unless you want them cut up and bleed, always use a linesman pliers.
Wait a minute. Remove the wire nut, then check if it is dead? POINTLESS. Defeats the purpose of safe isolation. So basically you have to touch the wire nut when it could be live?
Stupid. This got nothing on British electrical installations.
fail@ them instructing to turn off circuit breaker switch AFTER they've removed the old light... wtf. You guys are going to kill somebody. That is STEP ONE
oh, also, if there are other sets of wires, make sure they are sealed off by one of the plastic wire plug things they show that you connect the wires with. this is for safety.
with just a basic light switch(no other electrical parts included) like they are showing, there will be only one set of wires; one for each insulated side of a cord and then a ground wire. the ground wire goes on the metal to ground, and each side of the cord is connected to the cord of the light you are installing. not anymore complicated than this. you should try to open your central a/c-heat thermostat. it requires a diagram and then it still may not be right if no one marked the wires prior.
It's all great and helpful to someone who knows how to deal with electrical wires. It's my first time. Can you recommend a source (book) that will give detailed info? Thank you.
AT 3:26; right about here I'm swearing up a storm cause I can't get my fingers in that small hold to get ahold of the wires and pull them back down to connect them to the other wires. That and the fact that my wires only show 2 wires-1 white, one orange. Most light fixtures have black, white , and bare ground wire. How can I be sure that the orange should go to the black or if there's a wire missing? And how can I be sure the housing is grounded if there's no separate ground wire?
I'm trying to replace a lighting fixture and every how-to video makes the same annoying mistake. They spend huge amounts of time showing you the most obvious steps - screwing and unscrewing the hardware - and BLOW THROUGH the hardest, most difficult, most knowledge-intensive part - connecting the wires! I know how to screw stuff in, the only reason anyone is watching is for the electrical WIRING! !
I am changing my light fixture. My new fixture has one socket(1 black,1 white wire). My old fixture had 2 sockets, so I have 4 wires coming from the ceiling. Which wires do I connect to my new fixture and what do I do with the extra black and white wire coming down from the ceiling?

Also switch off power first. Also, who says someone cannot switch on the circuit breaker. Ever heard of lock off device?

@JQisAwesome That's so right! I'm not installing a new lighting until I get detailed info on the electrical aspect of the job.

Shouldn't the guy in the video do this work, and have his GF/wife help him? not the other way around.
