  • wenn man das Original kennt.... ein klares gefällt mir nicht

  • How come this is not offered on Itunes???

  • pros may have a dispute over "slightly changes over nuances, and expressions" and such...i for my part was blown away by the presence of her voice and singing :-)

  • This is such a mess. It seems like she's only focusing on making it melodically interesting for a "jazz audience", instead she completely ignores the beautiful lyrics and it becomes boring and not dynamic at all. Sometimes keeping it simple is the best thing - proven by the beautiful recording on the album..

  • Totaly different to the cd version!

  • Rare...

The effect is striking... Her luminous beauty...

    Offers...

    Spontaneous and sympathetic smiles...

    Of delight and excitement...

    A cheerful vitality never seen...

  • Ten thousand times better than the one of Leonard

  • beautiful

  • this song was used in the movie Elegy (Ben Kingsely & Penelope Cruz).

madeleine's voice reminds me of billie holiday

  • I'd love to hear her and Cohen doing this together. Did that ever happen. anyone?

  • She's spectacular! Love her phrasing even more live; it's imperfect but true, like the lovers in Leonard's song.

  • I love her voice so much!

  • @ ark80: Who's at the piano? :-) thanks!

  • Saw her live 3 days ago in Seattle. Extraordinary! She was in complete control of her voice that night.

  • this was recorded at "A tribute to Leonard Cohen". It's one of the most wonderful interpretations, it's for eternity and will make her one of the most famous female jazz-singers. If you know life, and love ... and dead, you will understand ...

  • Something didn't quite square with me with this rendition. She's elongating every word to the point is almost annoying. (did she get a brownie)?

Cos I have her cd and is beautiful.

  • Love this song and love this rendition..a lot.

    Love, love, love...

Dance me to the end of Love!

  • Cool version.

  • Damn! It's like this song was written for her. Did yall know that Leonard Cohen wrote this on the ideas of the holocaust? It's sorta haunting to hear that, huh? I love Madeleine's version.

  • Not bad, not Leonard Cohen but very nicely done.

  • saboteur

  • ja ka fut kot

  • the studio song is much better..she sounds different on stage

  • j'aime beaucoup le rhytme et cette chanteuse bravo !!!!

  • As soon as I heard This great singer I knew my band had to cover her. When we play her music people love it.

  • ...dance......Me.....to the end of LOVE........

  • I love this song, the album(s) and MP

  • I remember hearing this and thinking "there's no way Billie Holliday did a Leonard Cohen song." Normally I can't stand it when modern singers try to sound like Billie Holliday, but as somebody I know said, she just natrually sounds like this.

  • @wookie72 I tought exactly the same when I heard this song in my car today. Prettty glad I ended up discovering this refreshing and gifted singer.

  • Where was this peformance?

  • @trava

    montreal jazz festival june 2008

  • ok! thanks.

  • I'm trying to play this song :D

she is amazing love her voice

  • ok I like Leonard Cohen very much, but this version.....WOH!!!!

    Amazing version!!!

  • i love her voice!

  • i'm puzzled. why does she always phrase everything so strangely live?

  • seems heavily influenced by billie holiday, one of the most expressive vocalists ever. check out a video, you'll hear it.

  • Also Ella Fiztgerald

  • Born in Georgia, grew up in France, go figger!! Did a lot of street performing.

  • @renixe I saw her a few months ago and her phrasing really drove me mad, I thought she must be drunk. Shame, becasuse her records are brilliant and I really love her voice.

  • @renixe That's jazz.

  • @renixe Thank you for noticing lol everyone was tries to ignore it and make her untouchable.

  • @Query17 Noone tries to ignore it, they expect it because jazz is different every time.

  • @renixe Madeleine Peyroux likely sees herself as a jazz artist who happens to be best known for some very successful covers. And, she likely wants to approach vocals in the tradition of some of the most famous jazz vocalists, that is, that the human voice is another instrument and it should be constantly exploring in and around the melody just as you hear the pianist in this piece doing. She's taking risks live and taking you along for the ride.

  • Awesome... I did a cover of this too.. Just click my username or paste: watch?v=MJXvziWdZVQ

  • Beautiful version, and sweet voice of Madeleine Peyroux. This music rock me with a happy no end.
