  • Beautiful piece of music - this is the only band I truly love even tough I'm a Metal Head at heart. I would still pay to go and see them - will neer be ashamed of beong a Durannie!!!! Still love Simon, John, Roger, Nick and Andy - the true band!!! xoxo

  • Love how you did this video. I have loved Duran Duran since I was a kid. They were definitly the one's that brought out how to do a music video.

  • oozing sex. starts off slowly, then the sax comes in and its just heaven

  • My favorite version of this song.....hauntingly beautiful!!

  • This brings back memories........thanks for posting!!

  • I LOVE the bass line, so sexy. And I really prefer the original version from the Seven And The Ragged Tiger album.

  • I have heard this version before and have been looking for it EVERYWHERE!! Where can I find it???

  • You did an excellent job. Oh, do i know those early videos by them. ;) Nice version of Tiger. ;)

  • @agnesfashionart you really protrayed the essence of the song I congradulate you on your video amazingly put together !

  • This takes me back when my youth...was that 30 years ago? like that...

Anyway, This seems to be made from some PV but GREAT! good job!

The man as my generation may get centimental feeling with this video.

  • this is so awesome on vinyl

  • Beautiful video, great music, magic DD, forever

  • This is the best version of this song.

  • ஐஐஐ i'm the 8000 watcher ஐஐஐJust love that vid as life as it is. Human can do better than spoil everything he touches in this world ... ஐஐஐ

  • final inside note! : the version here is also NOT exactly the LP original version, rather a very nice variation around its thema. In the original version, you have much heavier audible synths layers (especially intro), and the pace is slightly different..less 'fretless' bass emphasized, etc too) so my initial more direct comparison to Roxy's sentimental aerial Avalon universe on that one too..with a kinda unique touch of timeless juvenile optimistical 'light' added here (durans signature).

  • ..and here again not the introspective, ethereal typical Japan melancholical sadness (and more and more desperate) universe signature too. Note, Roxy made 'India' on their Avalon same 1982 LP too (7th Tiger = 1983), as for the exotism touch idea too..was an idea in the air in good bands at that time, not J only too (China Crisis anyone too?) )..1 billion $ question : did Roxy 'ripped off' Japan ideas too now? :o*) .. i'd love to hear that one too, one day.. ;)

  • ..anyway, thx again agnesfashionart for the video upload, very nice video illustration for it, intro relaxed me every time. well done)

  • great video and sound!!!

  • OH I love this! I remember how much I used to adore this song

  • nice job!

  • I knew !

    Massada = Gate.

    I can go.

  • where the hell did you get this version? or did you add the bongo-y sounds?

  • Beautiful video and song.

  • this was the b-side of New Moon on Monday - this is a different mix to the album version with the drums and bass to the forefront

  • Duran's music realy embodies the eighties. All that is so good about that extraordinary decade. the music, the cloathes, the incredible lifestyles that were lived. These songs evoke so much power and emotion, particularly for those who had the priviledge to live, work, study or play in the 80s. Such music as great as Duran's will surely live forever in the hearts and minds of generations of diserning music lovers. Living the dream is living in a Duran video. Hi-tech Far Eastern cities beckon.

  • @Regalseven I love this song but it's so much a take on Japan's Tin Drum sound it's kind of funny.

  • @paintedship you should really listen more carefully musics, and not repeat dumb things; you can search on YT tin drum song and do the real direct comparison, it has stricly nothing in common. Now, do a search on roxy music, and compare to Japan sound, lol..copycats (not durans). If anything, we can compare that to the Masters's 1982 Avalon..that sound was beloved then, not only 'Japan' around you know. ah!

  • @sunset002007 total bullshit- the only reason Japan gets compared with Roxy Music is because of John Punter who himself disagreed with the comparison. Copycats is a huge stretch since they sound little alike. This song sounds totally along the lines of something on tin drum- JT himself said it was Mick Karn who influenced him to play fretless. If anything Japan deserve WAY more credit than they get.

  • @paintedship stop that, please. just listen a little more the early Japan albums, and compare with the Roxy sound in the 70s, Manifesto, Sirens albums, etc ; total copycats, especially for the sax parts (with the Sylvian androgenic makeup scene play directly inpired and copied from Bowie). As for Durans in the 82-83 period, they were already more influenced by the late Roxy (from Avalon) than Japan, there.

  • @sunset002007 If they're "total copycats" I guess then DD's Planet Earth is completely original huh? It doesn't just happen to sound anything like Quiet Life does it? Your argument that Japan were a ripoff of roxy music is less valid than DD were a ripoff of Japan in the end. Even that argument doesn't hold up well past DD's first album.

  • @p you should (and other Japan fanatics btw), really focus and attack much more OTHER bands than just those Durans, in that musical area..from Simple Minds to Ultravox, from Tear for Fears to Talk Talk, you have TONS (literaly) of the greatest bands that used and (over)used those tricks (& even full samples directly!) used by Japan too..they were all the good ones into it..why that special focus on those DDs only (the least pure copycats of the whole bunch lol), my only question..actually!^..

  • @sunset002007 Don't you mean Roxy Music's influence. Japan never influenced anyone ;)

and I think your word "attack" is a blatant exaggeration as you like to put it. I just said I thought the song was influenced by Tin Drum, didn't make much a point of it more until you had to say otherwise and try to discredit Japan as some Roxy Music tribute band which is about as far from the truth as you can get. I'm actually a very big fan of DD but only their early period.

  • @paintedship well..maybe that's because i am more interested in the 'second' Duran period (apart their 1st true masterpiece energy driven LP..and yes, different), that i always find curious to hear people always talking about them as if they only did 3 LPs..and then add.."but they stole and ripped off" everything from the real true unfairly unknown Gods Japan! )) Let's say i love to remind to Japan connoisseurs some other truths too..

  • @sunset002007 always talking about how they ripped off Japan? A lot of people don't even know who Japan are. Even big fans of DD don't. I never said something like DD owe their careers to Japan but just made a simple point of say yeah they influenced them. It's a good influence and it should be left at that. If you want to believe Japan are a roxy music ripoff it's just as true in that sense for DD to Japan. Of course I don't believe that but that's how stupid your point is.

  • @sunset002007 in my mind I'd like to believe they only did 2 LPs, the rest of their material is not my thing. Doesn't seem like it was Andy Taylors much either! :)

  • @paintedship Atomic is the closest to Planet Earth...the percussino is very similar. I told you that before you fucking pest. FUck japan. Thye are failed commercial new romantics and fuckers like you think they were something other than syth pop. davy sylvian wasnt a poet. he wrote pop songs for simpletons like you to enjoy andwank to his videos.

  • Comment removed

  • @gregingram1970 you're a worthless moron, you aren't worth replying to you foul mouthed fool, I'll let you do the embarrassing of yourself.

and if you remember Japan was around before the so called new romantic scene. I guess Simon Le Bon's lyrics were always amazing then? Everything including "Don't want to be in public, My head is full of chopstick I don't like it." I await your replies where you call me "thick cunt" and stuff but I won't be replying so don't bother ;)

  • @paintedship As someone who adores both Duran Duran and Japan, these daft comments on Youtube really baffle me. A small minority of people seem to get the idea that Duran "stole" Japan's sound, yet Japan got their sound and style from David Bowie, T. Rex and The New York Dolls. Also, Japan didn't invent the use of arpeggiator synths, 16th note hi hats or punchy disco basslines, these were prominent with countless acts from the late 70s/early 80s, but people still accredit them solely to Japan.

  • @paintedship Oh and those Simon Le Bon lyrics you've quoted are from "Cracks In The Pavement" which is on Duran Duran's third album, a record which did well in the mainstream market but wasn't that well received with music critics or hardcore fans. "Tiger Tiger" and "Seventh Stranger" aside, compared to their first and second albums it's poor, and marked the beginning of Duran Duran's decline in many people's eyes. However, their new album "All You Need Is Now" is a true return to form :-)

  • @sunset002007 Rio and Avalon were released in May 1982 so the whole idea that they were influenced by that seems kind of weak. This song is one of the only good things on seven and the ragged tiger. That album is a commercialized sounding mess and marked the end of DD to a pop band for teenage girls.

  • @paintedship again, some blatant exagerations from you, my friend, i see..and musically a little short too..yes, 7 raged tiger is the worst commercial mega-hits period of that band..they were exhausted, their marketing team literally sucked them dry till the last drop..they paid the hard price to understand it..and that Lp is the least original, overproduced of their first 3..but 7th stranger is great track for exemple too, and some others too, etc. so long, J fan..

  • @sunset002007 where's the blatant exaggeration if I pretty much said just what you did? I think it was a poor album with a few decent songs.

  • @paintedship you know the old words, everyone has an opinion (like an..).. just don't try to make your Japan biaised the only prevailing even 25 years later so..lol ps; not my favorite album of those ones too - i literally hate Reflex style songs too etc..but not the problem here^)

  • @paintedship obviously Japan deserve more credit than they get, as you say perfectly yourself; but please, use intelligent arguments, and for the true reasons, not the usual 1-2 literary quick itw quotations used way out of context, that we hear every time, showing respect. Yes, great respect for Japan synchretism..was an inspiration for Rhodes especially (style); But for the rest, Le Bon, 3 Taylors had totally different references and directions..and result different too. respect to both bands.

  • @sunset002007 they deserve credit yet you think they're "copycats" of roxy music, pretty strange. It was Rhodes and John Taylor that mostly influenced them and they were the founders of the band afterall. And no you don't hear the same literary quotations over and over, barely anyone outside of the Japan/Sylvian forum even knows about them.

  • @sunset002007 one last point I want to make clear- I'm not comparing the entire album (7 and the ragged tiger) with tin drum, just this one song.

  • @p then precisely, you are wrong on that only song, then. sorry.. no introspective melancholic chinese inspired drama here, etc.. btw, try maybe some other sources than just Japan fan(atic)s forums..obviously, they are always saying the same things, always repeating the 1 or 2 out of context quotes i know very well too..that what's makes me really tired and quick..always the same rants indeed..as if Japan cult band invented everything..and bad Durans pillaged them..so out of proportions.

  • @sunset002007 well let me remind you it was you who responded to my comment and claimed they were a "copycat" band of roxy music. Pretty strong dismissal of their music there and then you said they deserve credit? Credit for being a copycat band? What you write makes next to no sense atop of the bad grammar it's almost impossible to understand anyway. It's pretty pointless even replying at this point.

  • @paintedship lol.. you are funny. it was you who claimed to old (overheard) claim DD was a 'comical' copy from Japan, i just played with you with Roxy & Bowie reminders..the real truth behind both of those bands. And you took the worst possible song to compare that one with to try to comfort your claim..i just pointed you on those little errors..Anyway..there is nothing wrong to have valuable people as inspiration. false pejorative debate.

  • @sunset002007 ugh you're almost as bad as a user on here gregingram1970 who loves to blatantly bash Japan as a Roxy Music ripoff band as well. No offense but I can't make heads or tails of your comment, the English is terrible.

  • @paintedship HI again. I see your making a cunt of yourself again you fucker

  • @sunset002007 I love how you're so quick to see otherwise with your biased ideas that Japan were simply a copycat version of roxy music. The same stupid rhetoric that gets repeated over and over and is expected to be taken as fact. Were they an influence? Yes. Did they directly ripoff their music? No. I'd like to see you tell me roxy music songs that sound like Japan because there aren't any. I can't make heads or tails out of half of your comment anyway.

  • @paintedship seems to me the biased one and not real listener of the early durans or Japan, Roxies, etc bands is you, not me..to make a comparison between the already introspective chinese oriented sound in Tim Drum, and 7 and the raged Tiger sound, is ridiculous..you just need to search for Japan, Roxies etc and other bands of the area to check my point anyway..i don't hate Japan, btw..at all. Just not the same music, actually. complementary.

  • @sunset002007 the comparison is based on the rhythm of the drumming, the synths, and the FRETLESS bass Taylor is using. If you don't hear it then you're the one not listening.

  • @p lol..and i could reply to you, if you can't hear the sax, rythm and drum directly coming from mentionned Roxy Music LPs, in the 1st Japan albums...then i can do nothing for you too!) anyway! just another hint for you, dealing with musics btw; the tools used don't imply the same intentions/results. especially here. Compare late J to late Talk Talk, some Tears For Fears full samples copies (real there^)!, etc, now..muuch closer..too^..and i hear that much less from J fans, funny..too!

  • @sunset002007 A lot of your sentences have poor grammar/ English and don't make sense. What are the "1st Japan albums" do you mean adolescent sex, obscure alternatives? They are truly the first Japan albums. They were influenced by glam rock.

  • @paintedship your problem is just not poor grammar as for you, that's real musical culture apparently..obviously i mean those early first Japan LPs. Study the sax in early Japan now..and rythms. And makeups. And blablas. why that debate anyway?..ah yes..durans are not just copies from Japan, too (same J / RM or B), as japan fanatics love to say lol.. Don't play sophistically on words..to say bs in the end). danke!

  • @sunset002007 I guess you think Japan didn't influence DD at all aside from Nick Rhode's look? I want to hear your thoughts. Nothing I wrote in my opinion is BS at least I did my research, listening to come to my conclusions. It's more than I can say for a lot of what you wrote.

  • @paintedship a pun is a pun, you know..i really like to see you have a really high opinion of your opinions at least (can't be false!..), hehe..) No, more seriously..i like Japan too. But i think they influenced much more bands like Talk Talk, etc (i mentionned a few..). Now, was it Japan style only?..arguably the first to come in a very articulated and slick coherent all along sound in Gentlemen LPs..yes! but many bands were coming to that; all thieves? come on..)

  • @sunset002007 I'll answer your question of why DD get singled out in relation to Japan. It's to do with the fact that Japan meant a lot to Rhodes/Taylor. I've heard them mention waiting on line for quiet life the day it was released. I've heard about how they approached members of Japan to produce their first album and gave them that demo tape (air studio demos) that now appears on the deluxe edition of the first album. Barbieri still has a copy of it.

  • @paintedship yes, R/T had real attraction with Japan formula..but what people forget to say, usually, then, is that durans = 5 members..their unique sound formula too is mainly due to that, in the end (lyrics, voice, guitar nervosity..etc), those other members had other references too. Btw..another interesting anecdote you surely knows too..debuting R/T asked to Japan, to do their first concert part, at one point..Sylvian scornfully refused..i always found that atrocious from S..real pity.

  • @sunset002007 "debuting R/T asked to Japan, to do their first concert part, at one point..Sylvian scornfully refused." never heard about this- is there anywhere I can read about this online? Thanks

  • @paintedship np. if i find it back, in PM so.. ;)

  • @sunset002007 ...They recorded it at the same time Japan were recording Gentlemen. It's do with Rhodes playing Visions of China on TV as well as the similarity in his image with Sylvian. DD do occasionally name check Japan as well. The similarities in some of the music as well. This is what ties them to DD but don't take what I write as saying they ripped them off. I'll just leave it at that.

  • @p yep, all those 'they ripped them off' ..and comparisons on ridiculous things (like Girls on Film with Gentlemen..for the 10sec famous intro and Japan title only point..sick!)..i react a lil' bit too sometimes..just for the sake of it lol anyway..another funny detail that a friend told me, some times ago that i not even noticed so far, kinda; wtf with those people talking always about that Jap Rhodes copycat thing from start? look at their first LP cover, Rhodes has black hairs!..so long)

  • @sunset002007 girls on film was first recorded with Stephen Duffy (in a different version) in like 1978 or 79 and I've never of anyone mentioning a comparison of the songs with Japan. Rhodes may of had different hair on the cover but he changed it shortly after in 1981 and kept that since pretty much.

  • @p endless debates..)) well, i did hear people commenting in that way on GOF(!)..yes, surprised me too so..meanings too^! I just looked back on Planet Earth clip on YT..Rhodes hairs are....red! no..once again, as i noticed seriously, the worst Rhodes copycat (_look_) period was the dready 7th Raged Tiger period again..yes, a true uninspired caricature then..but well, as i said, they were totally manipulated by their mkg image staff too then..sadly true\..

  • @sunset002007 John Punter-

"But Japan were nowhere near the same as Roxy. Just think of what Roxy were. They had a rock n roll drummer, who had nothing to do with the way Steve played. Whether David was influenced by Bryan I can't say. There were certain inflections, but it wasn't like he was copying Bryan‚ you can't copy Bryan. Bryan is a unique entity, and in many ways David is a unique entity too."

  • @p John Punter..yes, and everyone could say the same on rhodes, j taylor, Mark Hollis (TT leader..), etc, etc [the tons of musicians that experimented on those genres, then]..people like that have their own sensibilities..'copycat' is a dumb name we often hear on Durans (by Japan-like fans..), that's always fun to play on the same word too in reverse..but obviously that is only a joke..not sure Japan fans are that jokers though..)..the rest is totally obvious, of course)

  • @sunset002007 I know that Japan aren't probably fans of this band from what I've heard of them being asked about DD. Sylvian could careless since he's very much removed from anything he did in Japan. He still gets the royalty check as songwriter though which from what I understand angers Mick Karn since the other band members make next to nothing. Everything is influenced by something. I think this song was influenced by tin drum, you don't and that's fine.

  • @paintedship let's say i really don't see the chinese introspective melancholy coming from that song here..but much more some late Roxy-like influences..but, yes, everyone can use YT search engine and makes his own idea too on that, and maybe even rediscover Japan own merits too..that would be the perfect thing to do, ultimately) ..and long life to the durans too [and yes, they explored a lot of other genres too)]..always around in 2010 with a coming new LP announced..respect too for that)

  • @sunset002007 no but I hear fretless playing very much in the style of Mick Karn as well as a drum pattern similar to Steve Jansen as well as that exotic feeling explored on stuff like canton. It may not be oriental sounding but it reminds me of Tin Drum.

  • @paintedship i see your point. i always tend to favour the resulting feelings or even 'meanings' coming from a song then the separated parts 'cooking receipt'..especially when used in very very light proportions (salt, butter..in a lot of things too) ). I guess you would be mad in hearing back some Tears For Fears (the hurting?) samples, or even Ultravox Lament song..every Japan fans should react on those ones too imo..much more than here.. ;)

  • This is so incredible!

Why do you have this version?

I think most people have another version that music with saxophone.cause of album"tiger tiger "includs that version.

I'd like to tell you why I was searching this song but I'm sleepy and tomorrow is Monday!I've got to go to bed. anyway,Thank you for posted! I'm grateful you much!
