  • that is a wonderful first freshening udder!

  • you really wouldn't "whoop" that goat would you?

  • I'm thinking of purchasing an alpine goat and I was wondering when can you get milk from them? Is it only after they give birth and are feeding a kid that you can milk them?

  • Teşekkürler video için. Güzel keçiymiş.

  • Do u have a web site? Do you have any milk goats 4 sale?

  • that crazy goat

  • You milk them down closer than anyone I've ever seen! You do a great job milking!

  • Shes so cute!

Did you ever use a metal pail for the milk? I heard metal is great for antibacterial purposes :3

  • Thank you so much for that awesome video. But why didn't you film that other goat you where going to milk? That would bea good video to watch. And you are a good goat keeper. You never pull the teats nor squeeze the udder. Have a nice day Janetin

  • we want more videos please about how you care for your goats and chicken!

  • That's a very nice goat, she stands there so nicely for it being her first time being milked! I have Nigerians, so her size teats look nice and large to me! :) Her udder is very nice looking, and it empties out so thoroughly!

  • I'm heading over for a goat milk latte !

  • You should not whip a goat!!! That's animal abuse! Are you just kidding?

  • some legistrators are trying to pass a bill to legalize raw milk sales in wisconsin. it's a good thing alcohol and cigarettes are legal.

  • i'm reading a book''the untold story of milk'' revised edition by ron schmid.very informative. i'll looking to get my own cow or goats in 2010.i live in nw wisconsin usa.i trim dairycows hoov'es for a living.drink raw milk for health!

  • Thank you for the video! You said that Miss Garnett was a saanan, and that she has the short udders. What breed was Ruby? If I'm going to milk I think I'd prefer the long udders. Thanks!

  • Garnett is half saanan and half alpine.

Her mother Ms. Ruby is full blooded Alpine, and I love those big teats. They are so easy to work with!

  • i WISH my cow's teat were as big as miss garnett's it takes forever to milk her and she has four quarters.

  • I want to get a milking goats as a hobby

is there sertain breeds that give milk or not??

  • Thank you Janetin! I 'm planning on getting a couple of kids in the spring and would rather not be fighting for a 'grip' all the time! ; ) Thanks

  • what do u do with all that milk i cant imagin the dogs drinking it all

  • You can make cheese, icecream, use the milk in instead of water in your soap making too.

  • @HvensFury Wow that sounds interesting. Do you have any videos? I'd like to watch em:)

  • I heard that if you beat them enough for the dogs, their milk comes out like fancy goat cheese.

Also, I heard about teat-enlargement pills.

Maybe if you beat her more, it won't wear your arms out.

Hello, to my fellow goat owners out there.

  • If they don't behave, with their heads trapped, you're "gonna give them a whoppin'" ? Do you have to beat your animals to get them to behave?

    Are they onery on occasion?

  • how many times has she got a whoopin with a stick?

does it make them listen like children do after a whoopin?

  • I know you can make cheese out of goats milk but can you make butter?? My husband and I are thinking about getting some milking goats and I was wondering if you knew how to make goat cheese or butter.

  • Hi tp,

You can make butter if you have a mechanical cream separator. Goat's milk is naturally homogenized, the fat particles are so tiny that they do not separate from the milk. There is just the tiniest bit of cream on top of my milk after it sits.

I have a friend who gives cheese making demonstrations with her goat milk, but I havent made any yet.

  • how many goats did it take to fill the bucket

  • My goaties will each give me about a gallon and a half per day if I milk em twice p/d and give em plenty of grain and greens.

  • MS Janetin I'm very glad u've a big bucket to milk ms Garnet. I see u've trouble milking. I' live in New York. But I'd visit Tenn and help u milk the goats if that is where u live. U do not have to pay me any thing. It seems u've a lots of good goats. I did not think u could finish milking Ms. Garnet. But u did. I'm proud of you.

  • I have a goat that looks just like her and her name is Ruby just like your Alpine doe!

  • Maybe is because its painfull or ticklish for them..If the goat's nature is for being a nasty one, it won't let you to toach ANY part of her.

Talking with a lil humor..I don't think that they would think as us saying be kicking "My udder is a private part" cuz it's stupid Lol...It couldn't be.

  • I don't understand why is there some goats who dosen't like to be milked...Maybe cuz they have their teats pretty sensitive that causes tickles or hurts when the hand toaches or grave them.

And I have never heard about a goat wanting to be milk...seems as only cows are the ones who enjoy to be milked.

Goats are the only ones who makes dificult milkings...Getting nasty be kicking or ramming...In cows this issue is less.

  • There are goats who kick when u milk them and there are cows who kick when u milk them. It is easier to handle goats who kick than it is to handle cows who kick. But just becaause they kick it does not mean that they won't get milk. Men will find a way to milk them

  • Thanks! I got one goat and she is a dream usually she runs into the milking stand, and stands real pretty, then I got momma, and she scares me to death. She starts bucking and trying to kick with all fours, when I went to meet her b4 I bought her, she came right up to us and let us pet her, and the owner didn't even have a head catch, I was amazed at how gentle and tame they were, so I know surely she is just scared and needs to get used to us. Thanx again

  • I think u are exaggerating. The goat will not buckle on all four. The simplest way to milk a kicking or goat of the type you described is by standing behind the goat and raising one of her legs very high and milking with one hand. Insteadu can have a man sit behind the goat and hold both of her legs and have another man milk her. By man I mean man or women.

  • crzy question...do you actually use a stick? I have just started milking goats and one of mine will NOT let me milk her without a fit. I did swat her with my hands, but I am afraid she will be too scared of me. I want her to be content and happy here...but I can't keep letting her kicking me though. She actually bruised my hubby. Thanks

  • Out of all my goaties, I have only had one that I have actually taken a stick to. Her name is Drucilla, a full blood Nubian Bit*h. She was a vile little beast from birth. I had her mother, father, and grandmother, and they were all normal behaved goaties, but Drucilla was just hateful. She would come into the milkstand and eat normally, but she would not let me touch her teats. I kept a small sturdy stick close and yes, I would give Miss Drucilla 2 or 3 good whacks on her hiney

  • Finally, I got a wide (3") strap and attached it to one side of my milk stand. Everyday when Drucilla came in to be milked, I put that strap over her back, a few inches up from her tail, and attached it to the other side of the stand. I made it just tight enough to keep her feet on the stand, so she couldnt lift her backend up to kick. It worked very well. Give it a try.

I sold her to a lady who didnt know how to deal with her, now I wish I had her back. good luck

  • Using a stick is not the way to get milk out of a goat or cow. The cows need one hormone to produce milk and another hormone to release the milk. The udder has spongy tissue that is saturated with milk. There is no way u can get milk out of this tissue unless the cow produces this second hormone. The 2nd hormone starts squeezing this tissue and the milk is releazed. When u squeeze the udders it stimulates the animal and hedlps her release the hormone. When u hit the animalthe hormone drys up.

  • Good luck with the move. Crossville is nice.

  • what part of TN are you in? I'm in Luttrell near Knoxville. btw , great videos.

  • Hello Jujubee,

I live between Nashville and Lebanon, off I40, at the end of a 1 lane road. I have to move soon because they are building a stinkin subdivision right on my back fence. I have a place, deep in the backwoods of Crossville so I think that will be my next stop.

thanx, and glad you like my vids, there will be more to come.

  • that is one big jugggsss!!!!, that milk looks really tasty!!!!

  • I noticed you mentioned the heat outside, how well do Saanens cope with heat, I heard they dont tolerate it too well?

  • Saanens actually do very well in the summer heat. My Alpines will lay around panting and heaving, and my saanens and nubians act like they don't even notice.

I do clip my alpines and saanens in the early summer to make them more comfortable. Love them goaties !

  • Do you show yours? Is she registered as Recorded Grade? How much is she milking? I raise and show Saanens.

  • I don't show mine, but I know several people in my area who do show theirs. She will make me a full gallon of good sweet milk everyday if she gets a little grain twice a day. I love the Saanen temperment, but don't like those big hard, conical teats.

I do have a milking machine but only use it when I milk more than 3 at a time. I've actually thinned my herd down from 20 something to my 4 best milkers.

  • I think it's not a good feeling for the goat to be milked, is it?

  • If you want a serious answer to this question, ask a mother who naturally feeds her child: is it a good feeling when her child nurses after several hours of making and storing milk in her breasts?

The same answer is applicable to any mammal who is making milk.

  • Okay, thank you, for your quick answer to my question! I know, my english isn't very good, because I'm German ;)

  • Amen!

  • 2 great milkers! I have 2 Saanen does- 1st kids this June. Both bred to my Saanen buck.

  • Just curious janet. How does goat taste, anything like cows milk? Rodney of the jesters

  • Hi Rodney,

It tastes better than cow milk. It is naturally homogenized, the fat particles are so small they do not rise to the top, so there is no cream from goat milk. It is richer and creamier, and much easier to digest.

I will give you some when you come to pick up this rocket stove I am making for you! Hopefully it will be ready in a couple of days.

    Janet

  • im gonna get my stick and your gonna getta whuppin' haha

  • thats "gonna git a big ole goat whoopin"!

Not really. I just threaten em, they usually behave pretty well. They are goats after all.

  • I'm glad, we have cows and milking machines!!

  • I have a milking machine too, but I don't use it when I am only milking 2 or 3 goats.
