Wow.....Jackie Wilson, was one of Michael Jackson's idols....I was stationed in the Phillipines 1968-1970...they had a guy and a girl singing in a club downtown named" Chit and Rudy". Rudy would sing a medley of Jackie's songs, UN-BELIEVABLE, I thought it was Jackie himself. What a voice, it and he will live forever, thanks for the post......
I realized allot of things most o fthese artisits trying to find their way to stardom (Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jackie Wilson, Paul Anka, Same Cooke, Eddie Cochran and others) always crossed each others paths like through tours or other things. Which means they sorta started out the same and most of them died around the same age as weel in the young 20s. Which is sad but there music is wonderful. RIP to all of them
Jackie Wilson was the Black Elvis. Elvis modled alot of his moves from Jackie. He was an excellent singer and a very handsome man. I enjoyed his music back then & i still do today. Just as I loved & still do love Elvis's music. I'm a white woman, so no prdjudice here!
Sorry to everybody about the comment I made on Jackie Wilson dressing up. If it came off as racist that wasn't my intention. It wasn't the smartest comment if made that's for sure. I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend anybody.
J.W. was the very first singer to try on stage the "moonwalk" step which Michael Jackson made so popular 50 years later. J.W. was a great performer. Loved this particular song...so full of rythm !

im glad to say that I am 18 and still know who jackie wilson is.My brother brang me up listening to greats and watching the Ed Sullivan Show and Dean Martin. Jackie Wilson is one of my favorite old time singers.
I spent a lot of time at the Brill Bldg. ( NYC. Tin Pan Alley ) I remember seeing him get out of his limo , wearing a tan camel trench coat . Looking WAY WAY TOO COOL .
PLEASE disable that stupid LIKE DISLIKE shit on this video. It's very disrespectful to the memory of the worlds greatest singer Jackie Wilson. (Go into edit mode and look down below on the left side options.)
This is one of my all-time favorite artists. He was the perfect mix of talent, class, and good looks (he was absolutely gorgeous). Artists (if you could call them that) today could take a lesson from him.
Jackie Wilson and R. Kelly are both similar in the way each sang. Wilson's "To Be Loved" and Kelly's "When a Woman Loves" are great examples of them having similar singing voices. Both are great legends (One living and one deceased) in the world of R & B.
Thanks for this video. Jackie was my favorite singer until Otis Redding came along. And this is one of Jackie's great ones. Nice that the quality is so good. Absolutely not lip-sync; this was recorded live. You can tell because there are so many variations from his original recording. Unless you sing a song identically each time, it is almost impossible to lip-sync.
@scruffyrunkin I'm just curious. What, in your opinion, would have been appropriate apparel for black entertainers? I wish we could go back to the times when performers looked as classy and stylish as Jackie Wilson. Also the ladies of that era were dressed perfectly, imo. Those sheath dresses back in the day were so elegant; and you can't go wrong wearing them.
Anyway, I love this vid. Jackie was one of the true greats.
It's performances like this one that earned him the nickname, "Mr. Excitement". This guy just oozed talent from every pore in his body. I thank God for allowing me to grow up on his music!
As far as him wearing a suite, alot of blacks took pride in dressing up. They didn't have alot rights and were discriminated against. This was one thing they could take pride in. I am so sick of finding everybody play the race card. It's great to take pride in your own culture but to make it a " that's my culture not your's" thing. Doing that is another way of racism. We should have pride in our own culture and respect others culture as well as respect those who are influenced by ours.
@MrMattRocker No, he wore a suit because back then EVERY performer was well dressed and clean-cut. It had nothing to do with his race. You are definitely white to have a view like that.
@Eraseasaurus Amen. Can't think of a performer from that era who didn't dress in that manner. In fact regular everyday people took more pride in their appearance.
@MrMattRocker Exactly. People dressed up back then. It had nothing to do with race. People were more polite and proper. People even dressed up to fly on airlines.
Jackie Wilson is amazing. Love this music. I'm 24 an like the 12 year old that likes this music better I do too. Not a huge fan of todays music. As far as Jackie trying to dress white. For your information alot of people dressed up like that, blacks and whites. The hippie movement hadn't started yet so alot of people dressed like this. As far as him not wearing an afro at this time, it wasn't the style yet. Blacks didn't have afro's and the Beatles had the longest hair.
@scruffyrunkin The reason no one wore cornbraids back then is because they maid you like a slave or a pickaneni. It was a shame to have braids. Especially for a man. Research some history my friend. Jackie Wilson is still top chart to me.
Jackie Wilson was with Bily Ward and the Dominos and went solo. He was truely one of kind he dressed sharp, could dance, and his singing talents were unbelievable and last but not least he was good looking and the women literally went mad at his concerts, his dancing routines were that energetic that he often split his trouseres while dancing and this really sent the crowd mad. He was a all around entertainer in every sense of the word. Respect my brother thank you. From the bottom of my heart
I saw Jackie live in Buffalo 1968 and I'm here to tell you, he had those happy feet working for him. Thanks to all the great performers that shared their gift with us.
what a crying shame his estate was worthless when he died all because he had greedy b********* in the mix what an amazing wasted talent r.i.p Jackie Wilson you were a true legend long before your your time :-(
With all of the so-called docu-drama movies (Ray, La-Bamba, Lyman, Dream Girls, etc) they've made over the past twenty-five years, I fail to understand why a movie has yet to be to be made with an unbelieveable story, about an unbelieveable talent, with an unbelieveable voice, wrapped up in an unbelieveable tradgedy no screen write could ever devise. WHY NOT? For all the money Gordy made off of Wilson, HE (alone) should do it. Or maybe Nate Tarnabaums family? RIP great one!

@Rory99M Jackie cut his first record at the age of 16 as Sonny Wilson, but nothing happend...his professional career got underway in 1953 when he replaced Clyde McPhatter in the gourp, "Billy Ward & The Dominos", one of the top R & B acts at that time. He was with them for 3 years & had a few hits, but as "Billy Ward & The Dominoes". Left the group in 1956 & signed with Brunswick Records in 1957 which is when he released his 1st record for the label, "Reete Petite". Had over 50 NATIONAL hits.
@badmofo8a naah. he was performing on a show in 1975 wen he fell and hit his head and slipped into a coma until 1985 wen he was taken off life support and died.
@lander4545 they used a substance to make the hair like that, because white ppls mistreat calling them nappy niggers, their mentality jumped into wanting to look less like a black person...how ever the talent is amazing...if u see a lot black artist have neat clean cut hair...compare to the 60's and 70's where they began seeing that being themselves is actually a natural way to be.
@BlueMoonLightDreams JW was a beautiful human being in every way. What a combination of gymnastic voice, personality, style, showmanship, intelligence, and physical good looks. He had it all...except a manager who was operating in Jackie's best interest. Music mafia capitalism almost destroyed this wonderful being who gave so much good feeling to people from many walks of life. He was a strong man to survive the music plantation with his humanity intact. A talent for the ages.
me 2 im canot say my age but i have him on my planner and on my walls he is amazing i cant stop listening to him i hate this music we have now all the great performers are dead but thank God for the great Jackie Wilson!!!
What a sexy freaking dude man ! Am I'm a totally straight guy. I guess he's the kind of guy girls love, and guys wish they were. I've always loved Jackie's music. What a performer he was.
Thank people like Ed Sullivan. Color never mattered to Ed. He gave so many artist of color a forum to show their talent, not their race. He is a true American hero.
@thepoopie2 People who weren't around in the 60's don't know what a big deal the Ed Sullivan show was back then. Some shows still weren't booking black acts for fear of losing sponsors. But Sullivan, who was a New York newspaper columnist, had top ratings and the power to book Russian dancing bears or whatever else he wanted. Regarding Jackie, he should be a household name, but America was still racially backward.
RIP, Jackie.

@KingMerc864 What happend "nowadays" is that parents are failing there children! ;)

Thank people like Ed Sullivan. Color never mattered to Ed. He gave so many artist of color a forum to show their talent, not their race. He is a true American hero.
thepoopie2 1 year ago
@thepoopie2 People who weren't around in the 60's don't know what a big deal the Ed Sullivan show was back then. Some shows still weren't booking black acts for fear of losing sponsors. But Sullivan, who was a New York newspaper columnist, had top ratings and the power to book Russian dancing bears or whatever else he wanted. Regarding Jackie, he should be a household name, but America was still racially backward.

people back then had a good voice or they wouldn't make it, but now they just use computers to make people sound good
