Loosely based on a short novel called "Carmilla" by this 19th century dude called Le Fanu. It was written 25 years before Dracula. This movie really emphasises the lesbian aspect of female vampirism, there wasn't any action in Le Fanu's book though Carmilla herself was obviously attracted to Laura.
