I had never heard of this band until I saw these videos on YouTube. If you want to hear an interesting band you may not have heard before then type in "Seattle Band Child". Child played in the Seattle area in the 1970's, toured with Heart and some other National bands and were really good if you like the type of music they play.
Not sure if anyone here is aware of this, but this song is in an American horror film called "Frankenstein Meets The Space Monster" from 1965. I may be giving old hat information, but there again, not too many have heard of this movie either.
@Shawnster65 Actually, that movie is where I first heard this song. The movie is pure low-budget cheese and typical late-night TV fare, yet strangely entertaining. And the soundtrack isn't bad at all. The thing that always got me about that movie was that it starred a young James Karen, whom I remember as being "Mr. Pathmark" for all the TV commercials he did for that supermarket chain when I was a kid.
@RipTanion Not to mention James Karen being the lucky bastard who got to watch Stella Stevens jiggle around in the shower in "Monster In The Closet." Oh man...how lucky ;-)
And yep I remember Mr. Karen's Pathmark commercials too. He seemed like a nice and fun guy. Then again, TV commercial in the 70's were a lot more fun anyhow (mostly because thry were put in the middle of horror movies, lol)
thanks for your comments sitarnut always amazed at the different take people on music .youtube is a must for us shall we say more diserening veiwers of youtube content. Regards from scotland
what a time this was <the poets the beatstalkers, the saberes, maverics ,and a band from dundee who wore tartan waistcoats they rocked ,all at Paisley ice rink 45/46 years ago ,MAN IM OLD
Me too.. but I love it when we can hear something like this- reminds me of the happy times riding my "66" Triumph Bonneville- love the guitarist's tone- reminds me of "Creme"... wish he could have played a bit more... thanks for this enjoyment RRWW.... cheers from Texas.
@pirdyskins1 im old too. i was just telling some friends about some music they used to play at the skating rinks and they even broad casted on the local radio down in biloxi miss. when i lived there in '63.
I like this song too---taped it off my favorite public radio station here in the D. The beat has always sounded very Motownish to me---plus it has a dark, downbeat murky sound unusual for a pop single of that era. Read about them in either one of these books by Richie Unterburger---UNKNOWN LEGENDS OF ROCK 'N ROLL, or URBAN SPACEMEN AND WAYFARING STRANGERS--there's a chapter on the Poets in one of them--might be the first one. One Poets song was on a CD that came with the book--not this one, though
It appears on several psychedelic collections. Most notably, "Rubble 5: The Electric Crayon Set", "A Perfumed Garden Volume Two" and the "Nuggets II: Original Artyfacts From the British Empire and Beyond, 1964-1969" box set.
@izzuki9 May be a bit late with this....I have an album on vinyl, label is pink, says Immediate (not sure the 'proper' Immediate though!) and has the reference Z12 52008. Nothing around the label edge, nothing on the insert and nothing on the cover to help give you a contact. Very strange because that was the number for the Small Faces original Nut Gone Flake on Immediate (proper!). Got most of their releases on it. Great live band they were before all the line-up changes.
great tune, good quality, nice to hear it again, it´s all but one chord except for the break, do you know that this song is hippie music? it´s trance it provokes.
i hate to correct people, but the real theme song to ''frankenstein meets the spacemonster'' [1965] is TO HAVE AND TO HOLD BY THE DISTANT COUSINS. this is the other song in the film. both are excellent lost classics from 1965.
I asked out local record store for one of their records for ages.Got it but lost it then not too long after left UK for Australia.Seem to remember a line in the song which goes "You left me before" or am i dreaming.
great song by the poets [scotlands greatest rock group]. from the cult classic film frankenstein meets the spacemonster [1965]. i love the movie and the music in it, i proudly have the dvd in my collection. long live the 60s!!!!

@NIRVANAmat The lead guitarist in this band if I'm not mistaken is a guy named Mick Jones. Not the guy from Foreigner or the guy from the Clash, but a popular session guitarist from England, perhaps most famous for playing the solo on Gerry Rafferty's hit song Baker Street.

This is a classic! Subtle sounds accompanied by true creative genius, could never tire of listening to this.... and as for the good looking one...Hume Paton??? Why don't they make them like him any more?
Yes, actually. The Poets releases "Fun Buggy" 6 years after "That's the Way It's Got to Be" in 1971. The single was released to promote the UK soda pop brand Strike Cola. The original single has become quite collectible.
Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster aired tonight on AMC Central Time Zone. Heard this soundtrack, and just has to see if I could find it. Love the songs from the 50s. 60s, and 70s. Seems like music isn't what it once was. If you can call some of music at all.
I also learned of this tune from Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster. You can hear the Distant Cousins track over at the "Monster Movie Music blog". I'd post a link, but each time I've tried commenting with the link included, YouTube wouldn't seem to allow it.
