  • remember john o' cleak he and his fellow butchers ran out of rats and foxes to feed scottish so they waylaid homeless scots and served them up as best clean beef

  • Im an American and have not one drop of Scottish blood, but I admire the Scottish people, culture and their resistance to English colonisation.

    FK ENGLAND.

    LONG LIVE SCOTLAND!!!!

  • @zaxx19 You're an ignorant shit. I'm a Borderer, a Northumbrian. I live on the English side of the divide, just 20 miles from Scotland. If you had a fucking clue about our history, you'd be more respectful.

  • Nice!

  • @AndryIsHere because it's simply the best land in the world, i feel the same of you

  • when i see this photo, i just imagine an army of celtic warriors running to fight the british

  • @AndryIsHere same here. I lived 9 months in Scotland and I miss it every day...and looking up Scottish songs on youtube certainly doesn't help :)

  • someone can tell me the name of the flute? Thanks!

  • @Hikawa1991 I think it's a "flute of Pan".

  • Very beautiful!

  • @VampIce01 Shut up South African creole.

  • Un arcano suono che ci giunge da una terra,la Scozia, piena di fascino e ci fa sognare vallate, fiumi e brughiere percorsi da valorosi highlanders. I love Scotland.

  • i'm italian and i love the magic scotland

  • @MrZorro7

I love magic Toscana, Firenze, the city of Dante, that of Leaonardo, Michelangelo and Rafael.

  • @HubertTheBeardless I live in Tuscany! Thank you!

  • The very beginning of the instrumental part sounds like classical gas

  • Well, this is not the same melody that my English grandmum sang to me but the lyrics are identical. Scarborough fair is how I remember it. i know there are often correlations between scottish and english folk ballads. Such as my Grandmum sang me three ravens, but my Gran (mom's mom) sang it to me as Twa' Corbies. And in spite of my pen-name I'm actually Scotch-Irish and English of ancestry.

  • I'll just add: The lyrics of both ballads speak of setting impossible tasks.

  • It's not beyond the realms of possibility that a tune and a song (or parts of each) might have moved between Scotland and England and culturally "belong" to both!

  • @milbomilbo no its totally belongs within england....the music style is so different aswell. Peace heddwch :)

  • does anyone know in which specific locations in scotland the photos were taken?

  • screw me, im only 45% scott

  • The words are the same as for Scarborough Fair, aren't they?

  • @skatingcritic1 No they are not they are different the first one is the same but the other two tasks are different. Look it up and you'll what I mean.

  • Does anybody know, what instrument it is at the beginning?

  • This is my favourite song... I love it...

  • Scotland has been and always will be my land, where my soul dwells. Thanks so much for sharing!!!!

  • The most beautiful song I've ever heard in my life!!!

  • Enjoying the music, ignoring the comments ..

  • It sounds to me like it wants to be Scarborough Fair, but it just doesn't quite cut it. Sorry

  • @WeedKrop sure, but that's because scarborough fair doesn't quite cut it as the elfin knight.... Which was first.

  • Let's make this clear...The original Elfin Knight dates back to the 16th century. Whittingham fair and Scarborough fair are both British songs that are based on the original scottish song and were written at least 100 years later. Good thing they didn't have copyrights in those days =)

  • roy west

  • I feel like Don Quixotes coming

  • nice lyrics....

  • Not too sure about the origins of this song but it could have originated in 14th century England, around the same time King Henry the third granted a charter for a fair to be held in the English town of Scarborough.

  • How can I find and d.load the song _??

  • its tobad a modern day scottish revolt is out of the question, theres allot of young william wallaces ready to behead conformist leaders....

  • never heard of scottland before but after listening this iam a fan of scotland

  • @MrLiverpooladdicted It's "Scotland", not Scottland.

  • This is awesome

  • haha any1 ever rememberin playin this on the recorder in school?

  • This song is called. Scarborough fair

  • He sounds like Chrisopher Lee a bit!

  • My mom was at his concert lately and was VERY impressed by everything about him: the looks, the voice, and, of course, handling musical instruments :)

I'm listening to this, and I like him too, I must admit.

  • amazing folk song .....

  • Very well sung from deep within the heart.

  • original volk und kultur BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SCOTLAND

  • I don't care what kind of ballad it is, it is just gorgeous all the same!

  • Surely if it was Scottish it would've been called the "Effin" Knight?

  • клеееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееееево

  • so this is where Dylan got the melody and style for Girl of the north country.

  • Hermosa melodia!!!!!!!!!! =)

  • what is the name of this song _???

  • @aberhan78 Read the additional info featured in the sub-bar. It provides you with a short historical background, in addition to the name and lyrics of this song, as well as the artist's name and album it was recorded on.

It's commonly referred to as "Scarborough Fair", for the musical duo Simon and Garfunkel made this song a widely known hit in 1966, with their version of this piece. However, the original name is "The Elfin Knight", and is a typical Celtic ballad.

  • Reminds me of Skyforger

  • Wow, that´s interesting version of Scarborough Fair. I know that there are soooo many different versions of this song but this I haven´t heard before yet. And I like it. Actually, I love Scarborough Fair at all :)

  • I love Scottland and it's music!

    Very beautifull!

  • @RobertTheBruce1000 It's "Scotland", not Scottland.

  • can i ask somthing widecombe fair??? as the little village on dartmoor?? widecombe on the moor when if i seem a tad stupid has dartmoor been in Scotland???

  • whoa God, it fills me with undescribeable feelings... thank you, Scotland!

  • D': I born in the wrong country mate, but I swear that my children will be a half Scottish!!! :D

  • I listen to this when I wake up :)

  • waitaminute. so simon and garfunkel totally ripped this song off??

  • Riktigie vechi, gandrizvai sadeva lielajai Anglju karalistei pa galvu. Scottish mighty warriors, and nice culture! Thumbs Up the video, or you're braindead.

  • Schottische Musik ist so wundervoll... Mhystisch und einzigartig...

Wunderschön ist es, diese Musik auf den MP zu laden, morgens um 6 durch den Wald zu streifen und die Natur geniessen...

    Traumhaft...

    <3<3<3

  • 10 people don't know what good music is!

I love Scotland, the music and the landscape of it... <3

  • Nice music but the image does not represent Scottish topograghy;it's more like a volcanic area near Hawai.

  • as a kid we sang this.

  • Love Scotland. I'll someday go explore that beautiful piece of land! And the music! Wow. A must see for sure! Greetings from Sweden.

  • i wish i lived back then instead of 2010

  • @blackicepz Geez,I know how you feel like -.-'

  • @blackicepz damn, I want to play brutal legend now :P

  • Scotland, Ireland = wonderful music and landscape!!!! <3

  • do you remember the group crash test dummies, the main singer had a medevial voice. i loved it. its not to often you hear someone with a voice like that.my ancestors came from scotland, ireland and england. those countrys are all beautiful.

  • I'm italian. I come from the region of abruzzo, as wild and misterious as your country... I like Scotland and Scottish people very very much... one day I'll probably move there Ciao ragazzi! : ) with love

  • theres something strange about this song because only men are singing this.I mean, the lyrics...It sounds like a moden day gay song sorta. Its cool both ways though

  • @albuorkka how? Only men sing alot of songs does that make all songs that just men sing gay? and modern day gay songs are like techno type music

  • @nightskull23 no..I mean...they both sing the *he* and the *she* part. that is ,of course, because its a male choir but from my point if view it seems like '*he* is singing to *he*

  • @albuorkka oh okay, understandable lol

  • i love u Scotland

    greeting from EGYPT

  • this is good. your voice sounds medival. i love it

  • @marg52too did you really just write he had a "medieval voice"? o.O

  • @SteinbrecherBack it's like having an 80s voice but with worse teeth and a smell of farm animals

  • This is not a Scottish folk song.

Widdicombe Fair is held in South Devon. About 400 miles from Scotland.

  • @MrScotbrit 400 miles from scotland is the sea.....

  • @MrScotbrit actually this is one of many adaptions of the scottish ballad the elfin knight. the well known scarborough fair is another adaption. it was origionally about 2 lovers giving each others impossible tasks. if u want to learn more just wiki it.

  • @MrScotbrit It sounded like the singer sang Whittingham, rather than Widdicombe to me, but I could definitely have misheard.

  • @MrScotbrit Whittangham Fair. Yes, this is an old Scottish ballad and a variation of The Elfin Knight. The lyrycs are almost identical to the English variation Scarborough Fair.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrScotbrit its actually IS a Scottish ballad from the 17th century

  • @sumoslamer180 No. I don't think it is. The lyrics of "Scarborough Fair" and it's variants have something in common with the lyrics of "The Elfin Knight". Not that they are the same, it's more the structure of the lyrics. The melody however is typical middle English.

This is what the melody of The Elfin Knight sounds like:

  • i luv celtic n scottish irish music.

i like germany, very nice country too! :)

  • wish I was born in the Highlands!! Unfortunately I'm soo far away....

  • Love this song!!! I never get tired of listening to it.

  • grobo it just shows that the peoples of these islands enrich the folk of each other and its something to be proud of.

  • This is an English folk song not Scottish.

  • No, this is a Scottish folk ballad. There are many versions but the oldest (1600 ca) is from Scotland.

  • No, the earliset one is found in England. That is why it is called an English ballad i.e. its proper name scaborough fair.

  • No, you're wrong because Scaborough Fair is from 1893 and The Elfin Knight is from 1670 circa. You can check it on a lot of books and on the web.

  • Yeah you're right my bad. However, the refferences to spices "parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme" wasn't in the original lyrics of Elfin Knight was it?

  • No, it was in an English version of the 1810 (the title was "The Cambrick Shirt") so it was one of the first alterations that brought to the final song "Scaborough Fair"! :)

  • Okay. However ,I was right in saying that Scarbarough fair is English not Scottish as it is a variation of the original Scottish ballad Elfin kinght.

  • Well, I like both versions!

  • Yeah same.

  • @grobo11 All of you are wrong. Everyone knows Paul Simon wrote this . Just ask Martin Carthy. Just kidding!! Wonderful songs, English and Scottish verions.

  • Actually it dates from the 1670s and its called the Elvin Knight its similar to an English tune Scarbough fair but its and older ballad. Thats the thing in these islands the peoples recycle music, instruments and verse and make it their own.

  • If you are looking for another version of this song, search for The Elven Lover from Omnia. It is pretty similar to this one, I think even closer than the version from Simon and Garfunkel, but it is about Scarborough Fair.

Are you going to Scarborough Fair?

    Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.

Remember me to a girl who lives there,

If she would be a true love of mine.

  • questa canzone e quella di sarah brightman sono le più belle, bellissime!

  • watch?v=bwldn3ET53E - Scarborough Fair

Sorry, but the above version by Simon and Garfunkel is SO much more beautiful.

  • any one know the name of this song?

  • it's in the extra info, take a look for it, it also has the lyrics of the song

  • this sounds like Scarborough Fair. some of the words are different though. i think this song is actually the elfin knight. im not too sure though

  • is fantastic

  • I like folk music as this.

  • amazing <3

  • it is scarborough fair

  • There's bound to be a lot of similarities between traditional British folk songs.

  • true true..though i am neither..unless you count emmigration..but i am neither scottish nor english by birth

  • Mein lieber Schwan! Was für eine Stimme!Sehr sehr männlich und wunderschön gesungen.Tolles Lied.Einfach klasse!

    Wow! What a voice!Very very masculine ;-).And a wonderful rendition.Great song.Thumbs up!

  • i am about to start reading that book "Impossible" I thought i'd check out the different versions of the songs

  • @kaydemichelex3 i can't find that book, what's it about? and who wrote it?

  • Its called Impossible by Nancy Werlin. Its about a young girl, 17, and the woment in her family are cursed. Her mom, her moms mom, etc. They have to complete the three tasks stated in the song before their baby is born (btw they all get pregnant at 17, by the cursers doing) or they belong to the one who put the curse on them. Its really good!

  • I know this one as 'Scarborough Fair'.

  • 2-.."Whittingham Faire (The Elfin Knight)" that doesnt sound like Lochiel!! its a southern song!

  • the singer sounds like a courtier from London in 1422! its not a Gaelic song!

  • love this song..like all things scottish..wht's the name of the book and it's written by whom?

  • if you like this song, read the book based on the ballad, impossible <--thats what its called. it was pretty good.

  • I loved that book! Because of that book I am now fascinated with this song.

  • The origins have many sources, but the most recalled version of Scarborough Faire were sung by the countless bards going through Europe. Each version was personalized. This one seems to favor a Scottish, upbeat tune; and the lyrics have changed.

  • @itchybrownbear and what song is this? what´s the name of it?

  • Sorry this is an old English song probably of Germanic origin - not Scottish at all.

  • And yes I know Wikipedia says it's Scottish but it's wrong as usual - trust me I study these things.

  • yeah...i'm pretty sure this is english, too.

i know there is a ballad called 'the elf knight' that i THINK is scottish but that's different.

heh either way, this is pretty!1

  • It's British - problem solved :)

  • This version is but i'm pretty sure there is a Scots version of the song.

  • Gorgeous!!! Sapienter si Sincere

  • just great!

  • A wonderful song, a beautiful voice

  • Suddenly I remember the Elderscrolls 2, Daggerfall for what ever reason...

That irrelevant comment aside, love the song.

  • sehr sehr schöner song, sehr schöne stimme

very very beautiful song, very beautiful voice

  • wow, really nice! a part of my forefathers was scots

  • audiodead: your audio's dead!

greetings from a scot living in germany.

  • True about the first bit this is a highly computerised American version of a ballad which has been 'cleaned up' to the detriment of the song

But Scotland is an amazing country..don't knock it until you try it!

  • Scotland!!!!!! love it

  • I love Scotland and everything of it.

  • @ScitOnDeRoud A couple of problems: firstly, this is an English folk ballad (most famously commercially recorded by Simon & Garfunkel), not a Scottish one; secondly, that photograph doesn't look like anywhere in Scotland I've seen.

  • @ega95jch

wikipedia article says this one is Scottish alright

  • @ScitOnDeRoud

But why do you love a Royalist Fascist Scottish Police State? What has the Scottish politically elite ever done for you?

Name one and get back to me.

  • @pluto4847 I think you might be getting Fascist and authoritarian mixed up. Also Scotland isn't a state. It's part of a state. I'd say it's pretty much middle of the road as far as police states go. I think there are some states more authoritarian and there are some which are less authoritarian. The Scottish political elite has taken part in the setting up the NHS, which although is poor, it is still better than the way health care was before, state schools, which aren't great but are better...

  • @pluto4847 ...than nothing. They have also helped keep the country's economy above water, so to speak, which is perhaps principally for the benifit of themselves and their powerful business friends, but incidentally it does benefit most other people as well, albeit in an indirect way. It's definitely not perfect and I don't love Scotland and everything in it, but I think that you make it sound a lot worse than it really is. In short they have governed Scotland. Admittedly they often haven't...

  • @pluto4847 ...made a very good job of it, but they could certainly have done worse.

  • downhill240 my family dates back tae the burce line aswell

  • as is mine.. imy clan is quite old.. and the detail about the songd? the traveling musicans changed it from generation to generations..
