@67tr876 That sounds so weird why the builder would install the studs this way. Are you sure about this? why would the builder do this? Your walls aren't as strong as they could be since you only have a vertical stud every 36" as opposed to the every 16" centers. Did you check the wall with a stud finder? Do you have plaster on the walls instead of drywall? Is your house really old? Just curious. Thanks for commenting. Joe :0
@VideoJoeKnows My dad opend up a hole wall after we tryed get chair molding up with no luck so thats what we found then we went to the bored and they told us that there was a crap compney we built the homes and something like there was a better contrater but he wanted more money so they got rid of him idk. My house was only built in 1986 and is a 1440 sq 2 bed 2 bath townhouse
@67tr876 It would seem like it would take longer to build a wall that way, than the right way. Are you still wanting to install chair rail to the wall? I have an idea for you, if need be. Let me know, before I go into detail. Joe :0
Good video joe ! Btw I dont see how your shouting lol or my hearing is going bad lol btw we put in new baseboards in my house it went well they look great but thing is when its chair molding they dumb heads who built my house put the studs vertical and a stud going up on 36 inch ! So it was hard for us
@matstars Sorry about being loud on the video. There's no where for the sound to go since the floor is a laminate floor so the sound bounces everywhere. Try turning the sound down on the video...&/or try turning down the volume to your computer. That should do the trick. Thanks for commenting. Hope this video helped you with your project....other than my loud voice!...lol Joe :0
@darktard No silly. If you have a groove somewhere close to the top area of the base, install your top nail there, then put some caulking over it "then" paint it. You won't even see where the top nails are by doing it this way. If you nail the top nail on the face of the base (flat area), your nails have a tendancy to peek through the caulking & the paint won't take as well over the caulking on the face of the base as opposed to an inside groove, Capeche? Joe :0
@VideoJoeKnows if you use liquid nails you can easily angle the nail at a 45 degrees on the top of the baseboard and it will hold without looking for studs.
for those that need a little help with driving nails they can use a drill and a small drill bit to predrill
set up your table saw or skill saw at a 45 degrees and cut the bottom of the base so that you can use a small block plane to scribe the base board to the floor.
? why are you using a long handle rough framing hammer on trim ?
@lgttb1 You have some great ideas. I was showing how to do it this other way since most first time DIY'ers may not have a skil saw or table saw to cut the bottom of the base at a 45 degree angle as you have mentioned, not to mention a block plane. I was not using a long handle framing hammer. I was using a fairly short hammer handle with a smooth face. I use this hammer for most all of my stuff. I don't do much framing but when I do, then it's the waffle head. Thanks for commenting. Joe :0
@rateddd21 I usually do all my baseboard with a compressor & nail gun but most Diy'ers may not have a compressor or nail gun, hoses, etc.. This video is for the person who is short on funds & don't want to spend the money (or can't) for tools. That's why I made this video to show viewers how to do it by hand. Thanks for taking time out to send me your comments. Joe :0
I have to redo the horrible baseboard job done to a few of my rooms. I will be doing it by hand like this, so this is a great help. As it is, the person who did the corners made it look awful, and, the way in which they were hammered in was so poor that they have literally popped out with their nails, if you know what I mean. I am constantly "pressing" them back in, like when one is thumbtacking something to a wall.
@jenzeppelin I'm sorry that you have to reattach your baseboards because the initial person did not install them properly. I have a few other videos that talk about installing baseboard too. You should watch those as well so you get all the info. you need before tackling your project. The nails are probably popping out because they are not hitting the wall studs.....if they're on the upper portion of the taller size baseboards. Make sure to find the studs for a tighter fit. Joe :0

so let me get this straight. IF i wanted to hide the nails at the top of my baseboard, i could just put a layer of paint over it?
