  • Air hump ftw

  • Best Ophelia ever

  • She seems to sloppily happy to be crazy, bad acting in my opinion, bad singing too. Ophelia such a delicate and complex creature, butchered by so many actors.

  • A little much.....They played it theater not film. Mel Gibson's Hamlet played it much sadder (I'd have still done her though) sexy crAzY.

  • wtf?

  • No body has ever done Ophilia better.

  • @SpyderFilmDayv helena has.period.

  • 0:31-0:37 is sooo funny. it cracks me up

  • i'm watching this in my pre ap english class and everyone started laughing when she started to hump the air. lolz

  • omg. such a convincing actress. AMAZING! I had no idea Winslet was THAT good

  • awh thats gas :L

  • Kate Winslet is brilliant as Ophelia.

She brings both the sweetness and.. psychopathic ness. I loled. She's too great an actress.

  • She's not psychopathic at all. She doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks of her because she's just come to her senses, that's why she behaves like that. In Hamlet, anyone who is called 'insane' is actually sane, and anyone who is called 'sane' is actually insane.

  • We watched this in english class and we all were laughing histerical lololol

  • 0:37

wow, i did not expect that! :/

  • what act and scene was this part from?

  • when she said cock, she meant it :D

yes yes i know it's supposed to mean god in the original context, i just find it funny when she teabags claudius.

  • Original context?

Shakespeare meant "penis" when he wrote that. Because he meant that men are not ashamed to show off their lascivousness coming from their penis' needs.

I like very much the translation in italian, my language (remark the rhymes):

Per Cristo e la Sua santa Carità

A parlarne mi viene il rossore

se lei ci sta lui lo farà

    per l'uccello non hanno pudore

  • According to the folger edition of my Hamlet copy, cock is another name for god. As in morning cock, the sun rises, etc.

  • i love kate winslet

  • can you justify your opinion? have you watched the version where branagh speaks over the entire film explaining the ideas and intentions behind each shot? i think theres a lot more depth behind everything, and it suits the feelings of the play. and to top off everything each actor is greatly skilled in their trade which brings great quality to the final product.

  • Best Ophelia ever!!!!!

The translation i italian I saw was wonderful:

Per Cristo e la sua Santa Carità

    a parlarne miviene il rossore

se lui ci sta lei lo farà

    per l'uccellonon hanno pudore

    Lei dice :"Prima di caricarmi

di sposarmi tu mi hai detto"

    Io l'ho giurato sul creato

se nonfossi già venuta a letto

  • This movie was great

  • LOL WOW

  • This actress is wonderful!!!!!!

By Gis and by Saint Charity,

    Alack, and fie for shame!

    Young men will do't, if they come to't;

By cock, they are to blame.

Quoth she, before you tumbled me,

    You promised me to wed.

So would I ha' done, by yonder sun,

An thou hadst not come to my bed."

  • I thought this was rediculous.

  • how dare you!!!

    Kate Winslet is pure art

  • Excellent performance i must watch this in full. More proof of Kate Winslets brilliance as an actress.

  • I'd hit that.

  • she speaks Shakespeare so naturally, like she's been speaking it her entire life!

  • she probably has....they'll all from acting dynasties....you breed a top mathematician by bringing two mathematicians together....same for actors...they're part of the culture creation industry.

  • She's great! She's KATE WINSLET for gods sake.

  • and... more proof that she's the greatest!

  • i do think shakespeare's works were brilliant; even for me, a science based guy, i was still intrigued by hamlet

  • She has gone crazy because her father has died. She becomes so crazy she drowns herself in a near by brooke. How devastating.

  • well, her lover killed her husband. her brother left, everyone knows hamlet and her were lovers, so noone was going to marry her. the scene where hamlet comes to her funeral, proves how much he did in fact love her.

  • Her lover killed her father. Ophelia wasn't married.

  • they were betrothed, or at least lovers. they never were married. but everyone knew they had been lovers, so noone would have married her.

  • i thought they weren't betrothed. thus the whole schpil from Laertes "His greatness weigh'd, his will is not his own;

For he himself is subject to his birth:

He may not, as unvalued persons do,

Carve for himself; for on his choice depends

The safety and health of this whole state"

or in other words don't fall for Hamlet he's a prince so he won't get to choose who he marries.

  • well, i think at the very least they were involved, and by some of the songs she was singing, i always got the impression that they had been intimate. and as such, she was 'soiled goods,' and as such, she probably wouldn't find a husband. that and the whole get the to a nunnery thing, which i know was a synonym for a brothel. and again, all this could be my own silly imaginings.

  • of course they were "together" but they just weren't engaged to be married. that's why Laertes lectured her.

  • and sometimes i think the branagh version almost made more of their relationship, than other versions i have seen. i think my favorite version, was the one that kevin kline did about 20 years ago, at the folger festival. but, then i love the casting in this, as i was just wild. i mean jack lemmon, billy crystal, robin wiliams......

  • this is my fave version, yeah it's perfectly cast. Kate Winslet is just breath taking. she always is in every movie she makes.

  • i think when hamlet tells ophelia to go to a nunnery, it more so means for her to get herself far away from men. he expresses that she is a weak woman who cannot form her own opinions or make decisions, and that men in her life are felling messing her up. 1- polonius uses her as an object to prove to claudius and gertrude that ophelia is the reason for hamlets maddness. he tells her what to do and uses her.

  • 2. laertes does the same, he tells her what she needs to do, and what is 'right'. 3. Hamlet. their relationship and now lack of one is only mixing her up and he thinks that in her best interest she needs to be away from men.

  • haha this is gonna help me essay on hamlet cheers :D

  • typing cooties, i see, i typed husband instead of father. sorry.

  • @LadyAntebellumFan And on top of that her lover had spurned her, and that's also what made her crazy.

  • She lost her mind. Shame about the tummy.

  • She is awesome actress, as Kenneth, I don't know his last name, but yeah, they are GREAT actors.

  • I love Kate Winslet! She's so talented!!

  • well then why did you watch it? I didn't force you to... some of us appreciate culture as well sports.

  • no, you did not force me, but the gr 12 english cirriculum did lol. that was my point

  • Then why are you watching this?

  • she is nuts

  • i love her in this play

  • Its about madness. And even more madness. But Kate Winslet and the rest of the cast were excellent in recreating Hamlet's family, and their downturn into disorder.

  • Do you have the part where they show her in the river?

  • I remember watching this one afternoon.

When Hamlet threw his sword, I was like, "Holy schnap!".

  • So in this version Ophelia and Hamlet had sex or...?

  • yes this is the version in which their love was consumated.

  • Hamlet and Ophelia also has sex in the book.

This is correct in Branagh´s version.

  • no, other wise act two scene one wouldnt be quite so useful.

  • *Snicker* I know this part shouldn't make me laugh at all, but it does. Everyone in class was laughing like crazy when she was on the floor. But either way, good scene. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD.

  • HAHA same here, i studied this for college and university and i always remember her hip actions lol

  • thanks for sharing it! please put more :)
