She seems to sloppily happy to be crazy, bad acting in my opinion, bad singing too. Ophelia such a delicate and complex creature, butchered by so many actors.
She's not psychopathic at all. She doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks of her because she's just come to her senses, that's why she behaves like that. In Hamlet, anyone who is called 'insane' is actually sane, and anyone who is called 'sane' is actually insane.
Shakespeare meant "penis" when he wrote that. Because he meant that men are not ashamed to show off their lascivousness coming from their penis' needs.
I like very much the translation in italian, my language (remark the rhymes):
can you justify your opinion? have you watched the version where branagh speaks over the entire film explaining the ideas and intentions behind each shot? i think theres a lot more depth behind everything, and it suits the feelings of the play. and to top off everything each actor is greatly skilled in their trade which brings great quality to the final product.
she probably has....they'll all from acting dynasties....you breed a top mathematician by bringing two mathematicians together....same for actors...they're part of the culture creation industry.
well, her lover killed her husband. her brother left, everyone knows hamlet and her were lovers, so noone was going to marry her. the scene where hamlet comes to her funeral, proves how much he did in fact love her.
well, i think at the very least they were involved, and by some of the songs she was singing, i always got the impression that they had been intimate. and as such, she was 'soiled goods,' and as such, she probably wouldn't find a husband. that and the whole get the to a nunnery thing, which i know was a synonym for a brothel. and again, all this could be my own silly imaginings.
and sometimes i think the branagh version almost made more of their relationship, than other versions i have seen. i think my favorite version, was the one that kevin kline did about 20 years ago, at the folger festival. but, then i love the casting in this, as i was just wild. i mean jack lemmon, billy crystal, robin wiliams......
i think when hamlet tells ophelia to go to a nunnery, it more so means for her to get herself far away from men. he expresses that she is a weak woman who cannot form her own opinions or make decisions, and that men in her life are felling messing her up. 1- polonius uses her as an object to prove to claudius and gertrude that ophelia is the reason for hamlets maddness. he tells her what to do and uses her.
2. laertes does the same, he tells her what she needs to do, and what is 'right'. 3. Hamlet. their relationship and now lack of one is only mixing her up and he thinks that in her best interest she needs to be away from men.
Its about madness. And even more madness. But Kate Winslet and the rest of the cast were excellent in recreating Hamlet's family, and their downturn into disorder.
*Snicker* I know this part shouldn't make me laugh at all, but it does. Everyone in class was laughing like crazy when she was on the floor. But either way, good scene. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD.

By Gis and by Saint Charity,
Alack, and fie for shame!
Young men will do't, if they come to't;
By cock, they are to blame.
Quoth she, before you tumbled me,
You promised me to wed.
So would I ha' done, by yonder sun,
An thou hadst not come to my bed."

Her lover killed her father. Ophelia wasn't married.
enchantedmistress06 2 years ago
they were betrothed, or at least lovers. they never were married. but everyone knew they had been lovers, so noone would have married her.
tranurse 2 years ago
i thought they weren't betrothed. thus the whole schpil from Laertes "His greatness weigh'd, his will is not his own;
For he himself is subject to his birth:
He may not, as unvalued persons do,
Carve for himself; for on his choice depends
The safety and health of this whole state"
or in other words don't fall for Hamlet he's a prince so he won't get to choose who he marries.
enchantedmistress06 2 years ago 2

of course they were "together" but they just weren't engaged to be married. that's why Laertes lectured her.
