You can't just go into these events and start firing questions or they'll call you a communist and then they'll threaten you or walk away and then they'll say no one there is like that. You have to go in like you're on their side to get them to open up. Once they feel like the interviewer is agreeing with them, they'll pretty much say anything. It's not that hard to bait them.
