so im new to ableton, im using mac, i use protools, im wanting to create hardstyle techno and a few other electronic genres, i was wondering what stock sounds it comes with and if they would be good for those genres, or will i end up having to download more sound packs?
@DjUfoLights Ableton will not come with what you need. It is a sequencer with affects (for the most part). If you buy the whole Suite it will come with some synths you could tweak out and get your hardstyle or techno sound. I suggest buy Ableton and download samples and VSTs to get the sound you are looking for. But Ableton is the best foundation wouldn't suggest anything else.
Can you use every samples on Ableton live 8? I have purchased Ableton live 8 and i have installed it (and the library) but when i go through some of the sample it says its not available on this version of live and i have to check the lincense (I have updated it to live 8.2.6 and i have completed the license). Do i need to have Suite to use them all or?
@WieldMyWord It sounds like you're encountering locked racks - these are Racks which use Instruments and/or Effects that you do not currently own. You can use these Racks and tweak the Macros, but cannot open them up to edit them.

I hate this version, they made the warping ass backwards compared to previous versions. Live 8 always crashes on me ALL THE TIME whereas Live 6 NEVER did (It's not my computer, I have a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with 2GB of RAM). Hi everyone, when i was setting it up and installing Live 8, i somehow made the library folder of my computer Live's preferred library folder. This means that all Live’s content is all over the place and im having trouble organising and isolating it (clips, samples, EIC Packages, etc) from the rest of the data on my computer. Could you please let me know the best way to resolve this? Perhaps by reinstalling or could you let me know exactly which content comes with Live? Help greatly appreciated

Essential clubsounds 2 is the classic one that has all the techno sounds everybody knows like that kickdrum from satisfaction and that horn sound you in hear in 99% of DJ intros,
its expensive at $100 per sample album but they come with aroud 2400 each and you can find em all at isohunt :D

i use abeton ive fof all of my production from start to finish.so when people tell you that their d.a.w is better then live thier lieing.becase every thing you need to make music is here in live.so take time out to learn it. once you do sky,s the limit.
I'm new to music I got Ableton live lite 8 with my midi controler and was playing in 5 mins. Just tried Cubse and still after an hour Im not yet able to open Omnisphere Cubase is just like 3D animation software too much onscreen at once. Live looks simple and hides stuff till you need it displayed.
Well, i have been using FL Studio, i figured to get better and more rich sounds and songs i need to use more than one program to fill in the holes one may have left out. I am almost scared to try this one, looks so much different than FL Studio.
@topherlinc as an FL studio user for 5 years, I'd have to say that ableton fixes all the limitations i had with FL. I completely switch over to ableton after 3 days of using it and the quality of my productions increased 10 fold.
@topherlinc Try it and see what happens. It's like when I switched from GIMP to Photoshop. It's daunting but you'll get a grasp of the interface after a little bit :D
whats the difference about installing Ableton Live v8.11 & Ableton Suite 8.11 ?????????????? while the first have 538 MB the second version is 1.9 GB...but i dont know if have have install them both (overwritting them) or if i have to install just one...i will prefer the one with 1.9 GB because the size, but why there are 2 versions first of all?????????????????????????

Yes. Ableton live is the most user friendly that i've tried. I recently bought pro tools 8 and find myself coming back to abelton live because i'm just so comfortable with it. It also has some good tutorials to get you started that comes with the program.
I love it ! Pro material that a beginner like me can use. The most important thing (for me) is that you can stretch a sound but the pitch doesn't change, that's magic !
I really like this suite. I used to make sounds with fruity Loops but this software is kinda frustrating because it's not very good when you want to work around some samples. With Ableton you're free to do pretty much anything !

Try seeing if you can buy the educational version off Amazon or ebay usually they don't ask for all of that. Unless you are buying from Sweetwater. I am going to buy Cubase 5 Educational version off ebay or Amazon it saves me $200.00 from the original version and the educational version has all the same features and functions as the original, but if plan on making money you better buy the original.

That could be because you have not set or changed the appearance of your ableton 8. This is an option which as far as I know has not been available untill now, although instruments and such like should still be in the same place. Also please please please stop using fruity loops. It may seem easier but if you persevere with what seems like more complicated software you will reap your rewards.
i can use fl studio just fine i wanted to upgrade and i thought this program would be better the only thing i cant do on fl studio is record something than add efects to it
think cubase is easier for recordin guitar and shitniz lioke that if you got no experience of programs like this but once you know ur way around ableton it far better than anything else,.. fl studio is prob easiest for makin beats tho.. so for michael.. id have fl studio and cubase .. make the beats in fl.. export them and load into cubase then record ur guitar on that.
btw, its me or the multiband dynamics input display is wrong?
i dropped a MD, then realized it added +2db to the mix even with all plain (which caused to go to the red side). Bad crossovers i guess.
Then soloed bass freqs at 200hz; my peaks were at -0.3 (with MB on), measuerd with live and with waves paz-meters, but my orange bar barely reached -5db !!
just in case i tryed a monotone sine wave peaking at 2db with MC on, and it displayed -10db constantly :S
not sure what michaels iq is, but ableton live is one of the easiest user friendly daw programs around. you can go from a rough concept to laying down several tracks with compression, plugins, you name it, in half the time than other programs. all programs still take time in the end to master.
I know...Ableton has one of the easiest link-ability also. And midi mapping is a cinch...You really don't need to even read a manual to start laying down tracks...
@michael678909 I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with it. I can understand how frustrating that can be. I, with many other DON'T have any issues using live. 99.99% of the "IT DOESN"T WORK" is because of user error and/or "you just dont know how to use it". I recommend picking up a few production magazines, join a forum, and watch tutorial videos. Hope you have better luck in the future because live is one of my favorite DAW's for electronic music. My second favorite is Cubase
I noticed dblue glitch used as an example in the video...does this mean the glitch vst is supported by ableton? i downloaded the live 8 demo and had a lot of the same glitch related crashes as my previous version 7.
the only way i'm going to give ableton any more money is if i have their word that glitch is fully support and won't crash the way 7 does.

Hi, I'm new to ableton too and can recomend the magazine 'music tech focus' (i don't work for them). Entire issues devoted to ableton! easy to read with workshops! I wasted £320+ travel expences etc on a two day course at alchemea who passed me on to london school of sound. Nice people but the course was all over the place. I learned more in half an hour with this magazine than in two days of tuition by people who assume you want to write boring repeatative house music.
'Read the manual' was the answer to some of my questions which is not bad advice (its well written) but not what you pay hard earned cash for. Two months on i can do plenty with ableton just by trying things out, but i still don't know if this program is capable for my needs! Save your money mate!
Ableton Live is by far the most intuitive and well thought out music making software out there, professional yet incredibly user friendly. I use Reason and Renoise as well but for arranging your creative flow this software is the BEST on the planet! I compose and arrange all my tracks in it now, who the f*ck needs FL Studio?
It'd be cool if they update the look of some of the HUD controls though, I mean shit, these knobs and buttons look like somthing out of win 95 lmao. On the other hand I'd rather they put all thier efforts into the fit and function and quality of the procesors and effects/coding ect over looks anyday, so Thats cool. please can someone help me? i upgraded to 8, i know ableton well. when i import audio into 8 it created a glitch in the wave form and knocks it out of time after the glitch, the glitch is visible and does not to do this to the same audio in 7. anyone else had this? please help asap! this is on my new macbook pro that this happens.
Nowadays, there's a lot of good software! Ableton has a nice design, look, I wish this designers could work for Cubase and Fl Studio, too. This are the top software, I've experienced so far.

Eh. Ive started on Reason and hands down that's my fav. I got Ableton though. I guess once I get use to it I might be all Whooo about it. But I mainly got it so I can ReWire Torq and Reason. Good shizznit.
Fl is cool for making quick beats but if you want to let your creative juices flow and work on masterpieces than Ableton is definitely what you want :)
Ableton Live is AMAZING, but it still misses some important things like:
*64-bit
*Comping (groups are very usefull, but having the comping feature would be even better)
*Dual screen (despite the point of the software is to be focused on one screen, but having the option would be very nice)
*EVEN better browser (options to better organize samples, loops, instruments, fx inside Live, like more "folders" on the left of Live)
Anyway, great DAW, it's clear that version 9 will be THA software!

i use abeton ive fof all of my production from start to finish.so when people tell you that their d.a.w is better then live thier lieing.becase every thing you need to make music is here in live.so take time out to learn it. once you do sky,s the limit.

I'm new to music I got Ableton live lite 8 with my midi controler and was playing in 5 mins. Just tried Cubse and still after an hour Im not yet able to open Omnisphere Cubase is just like 3D animation software too much onscreen at once. Live looks simple and hides stuff till you need it displayed.

Well, i have been using FL Studio, i figured to get better and more rich sounds and songs i need to use more than one program to fill in the holes one may have left out. I am almost scared to try this one, looks so much different than FL Studio.

@topherlinc as an FL studio user for 5 years, I'd have to say that ableton fixes all the limitations i had with FL. I completely switch over to ableton after 3 days of using it and the quality of my productions increased 10 fold.

whats the difference about installing Ableton Live v8.11 & Ableton Suite 8.11 ?????????????? while the first have 538 MB the second version is 1.9 GB...but i dont know if have have install them both (overwritting them) or if i have to install just one...i will prefer the one with 1.9 GB because the size, but why there are 2 versions first of all?????????????????????????

Yes. Ableton live is the most user friendly that i've tried. I recently bought pro tools 8 and find myself coming back to abelton live because i'm just so comfortable with it. It also has some good tutorials to get you started that comes with the program.

I love it ! Pro material that a beginner like me can use. The most important thing (for me) is that you can stretch a sound but the pitch doesn't change, that's magic !
I really like this suite. I used to make sounds with fruity Loops but this software is kinda frustrating because it's not very good when you want to work around some samples. With Ableton you're free to do pretty much anything !

Try seeing if you can buy the educational version off Amazon or ebay usually they don't ask for all of that. Unless you are buying from Sweetwater. I am going to buy Cubase 5 Educational version off ebay or Amazon it saves me $200.00 from the original version and the educational version has all the same features and functions as the original, but if plan on making money you better buy the original.

I kinda envy you because I went to school for accounting and even landed a job, but I'm passionate about music so i should have at least double majored! Absorb as much as you possibly can about pro tools b/c it takes a while to learn all that stuff on your own as oppose to professionals showing you the ends and outs!

That could be because you have not set or changed the appearance of your ableton 8. This is an option which as far as I know has not been available untill now, although instruments and such like should still be in the same place. Also please please please stop using fruity loops. It may seem easier but if you persevere with what seems like more complicated software you will reap your rewards.

think cubase is easier for recordin guitar and shitniz lioke that if you got no experience of programs like this but once you know ur way around ableton it far better than anything else,.. fl studio is prob easiest for makin beats tho.. so for michael.. id have fl studio and cubase .. make the beats in fl.. export them and load into cubase then record ur guitar on that.

btw, its me or the multiband dynamics input display is wrong?
i dropped a MD, then realized it added +2db to the mix even with all plain (which caused to go to the red side). Bad crossovers i guess.
Then soloed bass freqs at 200hz; my peaks were at -0.3 (with MB on), measuerd with live and with waves paz-meters, but my orange bar barely reached -5db !!
just in case i tryed a monotone sine wave peaking at 2db with MC on, and it displayed -10db constantly :S

not sure what michaels iq is, but ableton live is one of the easiest user friendly daw programs around. you can go from a rough concept to laying down several tracks with compression, plugins, you name it, in half the time than other programs. all programs still take time in the end to master.

maybe you have to click on NEW FILE in the menu and name your new music project first before it goes ON. try that.
Nuendo 4, Cubase 5 and Sonar 8 won't work unless you name the project first.
so don't panic. Read the manual before you go crazy

@michael678909 I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with it. I can understand how frustrating that can be. I, with many other DON'T have any issues using live. 99.99% of the "IT DOESN"T WORK" is because of user error and/or "you just dont know how to use it". I recommend picking up a few production magazines, join a forum, and watch tutorial videos. Hope you have better luck in the future because live is one of my favorite DAW's for electronic music. My second favorite is Cubase

I noticed dblue glitch used as an example in the video...does this mean the glitch vst is supported by ableton? i downloaded the live 8 demo and had a lot of the same glitch related crashes as my previous version 7.
the only way i'm going to give ableton any more money is if i have their word that glitch is fully support and won't crash the way 7 does.

Hi, I'm new to ableton too and can recomend the magazine 'music tech focus' (i don't work for them). Entire issues devoted to ableton! easy to read with workshops! I wasted £320+ travel expences etc on a two day course at alchemea who passed me on to london school of sound. Nice people but the course was all over the place. I learned more in half an hour with this magazine than in two days of tuition by people who assume you want to write boring repeatative house music.

'Read the manual' was the answer to some of my questions which is not bad advice (its well written) but not what you pay hard earned cash for. Two months on i can do plenty with ableton just by trying things out, but i still don't know if this program is capable for my needs! Save your money mate!

Ableton Live is by far the most intuitive and well thought out music making software out there, professional yet incredibly user friendly. I use Reason and Renoise as well but for arranging your creative flow this software is the BEST on the planet! I compose and arrange all my tracks in it now, who the f*ck needs FL Studio?

It'd be cool if they update the look of some of the HUD controls though, I mean shit, these knobs and buttons look like somthing out of win 95 lmao. On the other hand I'd rather they put all thier efforts into the fit and function and quality of the procesors and effects/coding ect over looks anyday, so Thats cool. I think they have done an excellent job on this latest release. Really digging some of the expantion pack sounds.

please can someone help me? i upgraded to 8, i know ableton well. when i import audio into 8 it created a glitch in the wave form and knocks it out of time after the glitch, the glitch is visible and does not to do this to the same audio in 7. anyone else had this? please help asap! this is on my new macbook pro that this happens.

Ableton is waaaaay better than FL Studio though.
Fl is cool for making quick beats but if you want to let your creative juices flow and work on masterpieces than Ableton is definitely what you want :)
