Half the time the renters are stuck outside because they lost their key or there's a problem with something. If they need help or directions, they're on their own. You can be asked to leave if you break any of the many rules designed for living not vacationing. Emergency? Good luck. Stay in hotels.

Ain't this the truth. My vacation rental in Rincon Puerto Rico shares the same beach as a hotel, but they charge you $765 a night for a two bedroom suite, when my beach house rents out for $375 a night for 3 bedrooms. I know most vacation rentals also have barbque grills, wi-fi and privacy you won't find at most hotels.
