Thanks a lot Girl Talk, I was singing along to Jesse's Girl in public and thanks to this song I inadvertently blurted out "but I'd rather get some head!"
Gillis and his sound collages are very hot these days, but it will take me a little time to fully appreciate it as much asthe madmen and madwomen who are creaming their jeans over it these days do. I love the mixture of everything from Chicago to Elvis fucking Costello to chunks a teenybopper rap Rick Springfield! Most hip-hop is so drab and empty-sounding that it needs a little sweetening up by adding these chunks of pop to make it listenable. I'm not sure if I like this stuff, but it's cool.
@efil666 That's a personal taste, and you are entitled to it. I would simply say that Kelly Clarkson + NIN = Conceptually Interesting. It makes (some) people think - it brings together two things from pop culture that are usually considered opposed, and I find this kind of practice interesting in terms of concepts and ideas. It poses a question. I like it for this reason.
I wish giirl talk would remix like one song instead of it jumping, dont get me wrong its great for like a club but i want some thing in my car (when i get one lamo)
@IneedTodisco I often think that this is the point of Girl Talk - to disrupt the idea of the unified 'song' - to challenge preconceptions around music. Not that I am trying to argue that you are not entitled to your view. I just think that Girl Talk operates by making us uneasy as listeners as well as making fun, enjoyable music.
SOMETHING GOOD WILL HAPPEN TO U AT 9:10 SOMEONE WILL CALL YOU OR TALK TO YOU ONLINE AND SAY I LOVE YOU OR ASK YOU OUT BUT HERES THE CATCH Send To 3 vids
I see your point, but I think if you are trying to appeal to the most people you're going to want to use those really popular hooks that people remember and love from the past. You might want to have to think about what song it is from, but most people would just have no idea at all and as a result they wont be able to relate to the song as much. I'd like more obscure music as well, but I don't know how well that would fly with the general populace!
Yes, Wikipedia isn't always right, but I thought Wiki took the list from Girl Talk's official sample credit list (which is how we know that the organ sample over Laffy Taffy and the synth on Get On My Level in Night Ripper are original Greg Gillis samples). Thanks for the clarification.
Also, right before the Rick Springfield riff, the video solos on PB&J-- that vocal sample is still from Shawty Lo's "Dey Know".
Yeah, seems like the listing of the Rogue Traders sample hasn't been there for at least 3-5 months now. Seems like Wikipedia fixed the sample listings, since all the samples listed there seem to be on Girl Talk's sample list.
The video also misses out on some samples, for The Jaggerz, Smokey Robinson, Tommy Roe, Egyptian Lover, The Zombies, Tone Loc, Mike + The Mechanics and Rare Earth.
The George Harrison sample isn't also supposed to be here.
at first i was not feeling the look of this video but i loved how clear you made where the samples came from! now you have to do this style for all GT songs!

What is that Voodoo Child Rogue Traders sample? Wikipedia doesn't list it.
YYZ821 2 years ago
It's not really supposed to be there. Girl Talk did not list it in his official list of samples used in the album.
Let's face it, Wikipedia isn't always right.

And the James Nasty sample shouldn't be here. Probably posted on Wiki temporarily because of the "Kiss Kiss" lyric "you so hot".
