I'm 45 on Saturday, and the sound of a clas 40's whistling turbos is as familiar now as it was nearly 40 yrs ago,you see,my primary school is right next to the West Coast Mainline,nr Wigan, and we got the lot through here. That line is totally dead compared to how it was then, and surprise, surprise, the roads are chock full.I know not everything can go by rail, but I'm sure we could do much better than we do. Fantastic Loco by the way, really takes me back - happy days.
Large Logo. Shit livery. Shit time for the railways. Good time for giving nazi salutes and behaving like 'soccer fans' and taking rail enthusiasts from just that to just another yobbish cult
People always ask me what I see in railways. Imagine 3 years old stood on Bamber Bridge station when the crossing gates close and a split box headcode BR green class40 rumbles over the road, the driver gives a short warning blast on the horn and opens her up. What chance did I have?
Imagine being on your first spotting trip to Leeds station, having your friends rave about something called a 'Deltic', and one glides into view and that resonating hum hits you in the chest? What chance did I have?!?!?!
@nimbus039 to right i loved them as a child then went to crewe loco works to work and seeing them on you tube makes a tear in my eye i had to take a flame torch to so many of thease brutes the shame so glad they have saved some awsome loco
Preston is a good station for the thrash and many DRS drivers love to "pull the handle back" once they get under the roof, especially with 20s or 37s on the flasks!
Yep, the platforms are really long and the structure of the station means the sound is amplified all around the station. I'd love to hear one of the original HSTs going full pelt through there, but I'm about 25 years too late.
I love it when drivers thrash the loco's like this (who doesn't). There are people that think trainspotting is sad, but raw power and thrash like this is what it's all about :D 5*

Perfectly understandable! I was hooked similarly by witnessing a large logo class 50 thundering out of Basingstoke at 4/5 years old.

If you have a lovely cathedral, you've got to sing quite well to make a lovely sound.....

How anyone can just stand there. And not admire a beast, is beyond me.
