they told us that christian were persecuted during roman empire ... but the empire was just defending its order. roman tolerated to a certain point other religion until Christianity came and started killing pagan (everything not christian) o_O
I knew you wouldn't answer my question. Typical. Dec. 25 was "(Re) birth of Sol Invictus. The winter solstice feast in the Roman Empire" also called "Midwinter, DōngZhì, Yule, Şabe Cele/Yalda, Soyal, Şeva Zistanê, Solar New Year, Longest Night" many cultures observe it.
Me I do celebrate "Xmas" ("Noël" in French) just because it's a traditional feast. It is cool to receive gifs, to make surprises, to play Santa Claus for the children, etc. It is also the only day in the whole year where the family is united again in the same house, and this is great. I never saw Xmas as a religious feast though... Who cares ?
I tell you. Me I really do not care about the origins of X-mas ! It is just a cool feast where you meet back people of your whole family, make surprises to the children and receive gifts. That's enough ! Don't you think so ? :)
True Christianity? True? How does it feel to assume that you hold the purest form of Christianity and yet (since you celebrate Christmas) you unknowingly accept pagan influences? No, seriously. How does it feel?
Such ignorance! Jesus was born in April, early Christians saw the similarities with the Dec 25 PAGAN festivals and what Jesus represented so they decided to merge the two.
Some researchers think, but without to be sure, that in the Antique tradition Mithra had been sent on Earth by Ahura Mazda, who was probably his Father (?)...
In fact, during the 4th century, the Christians destroyed all the books concerning Mithraism !
Louis, the information you have regarding the Saturnalia and the celebration of Christmas is correct and this is exactly the reason I don't celebrate it. I am a Christian and the early Christians did not celebrate Jesus' birth and December 25 was not even his birthday. It began as you said, as the celebration of the birth of a pagan god. I believe the God Christians worship would not want us to celebrate it because of these reasons and I hope your video makes more people think about it's origin.
Here in France we all use to celebrate Christmas, that we call "Noël" (from the Latin "Natalis Dies" = "Day of the Birth".) The French word don't say whom is the birth, indeed ! :D
Btw, a year without Christmas must be a little bit depressive, no ? :S
I always wanted to have a Car Dealership. Imagine the big sign: "Ahura Mazda"

Mithra and Odin is same god.
Thet create the world. Mithra kill the bull and Odin and his brothers kill Ymer.
Ravens are holy animals.
Both gods are gods fore soldiers and are also death gods, gods of magic.
In some places in old days pagans belive in a god Mith-Othinus.
Hail Mithra!
Hail Odin!

Mithra comes from Mitra, an Indian character. The ancient iranian culture was heavily influenced by India.

It's pretty ironic isn't it? Especially since you posted this video.
"the celebration of Mithra's Birthday, done on December 25th, was so popular that the Church had to christianize it, creating... Christmas !"------>
Stop smoking crack!

I don't think it's depressing at all Louis.
What was depressing for me and still is, was losing my husband last year suddenly and unexpectedly. Everything else seems so insignificant.
