  • My people were Scot-Irish and I dearly wished that they would have passed down the Old language to thier decents. Im an old man now and on my last leg, one thing I truly regret, I never went to Ireland and Scotland. Maybe if God is willing I'll be born in Ireland on the next go round. Up the Irish and up the U.S.A.

  • lyrics?

  • Scots Gaelic. Odd language. Good singing tho.

  • @Fluticus What? Odd? It's epic!

  • 'S ioma' rud a dhìth orm - A dh' fheumainn fhìn mu'n pòsainn!!

  • This song is so wonderful it could call out the fairies.

how did they do that 3m

  • love this, my feet are away on their own

  • Very Much Enjoyed!! I really like Karen's solo section, Both Great Singers but I think I prefer Karen's Style over Fions's!! :)

  • I trust Fiona Kennedy is the blonde lady.

Her voice is extraordinary as is Karen Mathesons.

I should like to hear more from each.

If they should ever visit St.John's Newfoundland Canada, the Ship Inn could find a space for them.

Fiona and Karen you are great.

  • That song would fit in quite well back home in NS too!

  • Cape Breton. More Scottish than Scotland.

  • Yup, though I'd also include Pictou and Antigonish as being "more Scottish than Scotland"! LOL

  • hahaha This is SO true....I performed this song in Nova Scotia and got a huge response!!!

  • fiona ur face lites up when u singing aboot yer ain

  • mamajw2 it is also good to get gaelic teach yourself books. It helped me a lot because it explains how Gaelic works.

  • Could you point me in the right direction? I have been searching but it is really hard to find in Saskatchewan.

  • you will find celtic language links on my channel. :)

  • The song Karen sings appears on the song Finlays, truly the sound of Gaeldom

  • This is so beautiful, and I have to say it has truly captured my imagination. <3

  • Excellent....FK a bit annoying on this though, maybe its because she looks like Easyjet customer services staff

  • miaow!

  • Lol, whoops :-p

  • Oh that just made me laugh....;)

    :O

  • Agreed.......I'll stick with Karen..she has the gift....Fiona should look to doing weather on the late news....she has a good voice, but a a .......

well enough said from over the pond.

  • I have to admit, I've always loved Karen but I didn't think she could beat Julie Fowlis for scary speed of singing, it appears I was wrong!

  • I am trying to learn the language and I was told once that a good way is to listen to music and read the paper in the chosen language. Becasue it is hard for me to read without hearing the words said I try to find the words to these songs and I watch the singers' mouths when they sing. I am trying but it is taking a long time,if you have any suggestions on literature that has the spelling and the phonetic pronuncitation of the gealic laanguage please pass it on.

  • Have you considered formal lessons? Sabhal Mor Ostaig does a good distance learning course.

  • P.S.

    On your travells, visit an old song;

    The Bonnie Ship the Diamond.

Take with you a novel, unrelated, but brilliant. Walter Scott,, The Heart of Midlothian.

  • Yes.

It seems you are on a journey; as I have seen from your requests on other postings.

Enjoy it. A good place to start would be

    Wikipedia and search Scottish Gaelic.

This will provide a portal. Where you sail from there is left to your interest and imagination.

  • Does anyone know where I can find the words and translation for this song?

  • The songs your looking for are known as 'Domhnall dubh an Domnallaich' and 'Thoir a nall Ailean thugam' Google should help, if not the Capercaillie web site.

  • Yes.
