For those not Canadian, the slapping of the tables is done in Parliament instead of clapping. (Hence why it brought a laugh.) The guys in red are suppose to be the Liberals, the ones in blue are Conservatives and they guys in the plad shirts are NDP.
That chorus has been embedded in my brain from the first time I heard it. Whenever I encounter some ridiculous circumstance, it usual kicks in in the background of my mind LOL. "We don't know, and we don't care!" Great stuff.
Love this send up of the HofC! (sigh) We need a Wayne and Schuster troupe now more than ever. The extra money spent on CBC and a change in its management would be well worth it.
We need this kind of Parliament to handle some of today's problems. Sure, it wouldn't help solve them that much, but it would help us forget some of our troubles for a while.
Some things never change. My brother moved to B.C. & it takes four weeks for a letter to go from Ontario to B.C. (and that isn't even when there is a holiday). I envy that the English get theirs twice a day & on Saturdays!
Fortunately Wayne & Shuster's comedy gold holds up regardless of what time period it is shown in.
hahaha, I remember when they put on reruns of this on Comedy Channel on 49 (it's 49 where I live at least) every morning at 7, I enjoyed watching it, thanks for the great memories
But it isn't the Senate they are parodying, it is the House of Commons, as far as I know there is no mace in the Senate, speaker works differently, and no question period.
I love 'Flora Macdonald' in the blue dress and the guy that does Dief is dead on!
You're right, it is the HoC, the green carpet and seats indicate that, and they say so at 0:16. The Senate QP is never as lively, and they have a Black Rod instead of a mace.
Anyone else get the feeling that this would have been a huge meme if it was made now?

That is hilarious. Sometimes I wished is was real. I could imagine Trudeau's Parliment.

What ever happened to sketch comedy like that? No wonder us Canadians are loosing our identity.
The good ole' CBC I'm so very sorry you're gone and you're never coming back.
Thankfully, we can all have a visit with the likes of Wayne & Shuster via youtube.

One of the guys playing a "real" MP seemed to be channelling Diefenbaker.

My 3-year old sings along with "Question Time" and pats me on the back when the men slap their hands down.

I was too young to get the political humor. They really were funny, but they made sure kids could get a laugh too.

And it would be a welcome change from the Tories screaming insults instead of doing their job.

@mf135gas What is Dief doing sitting with the Liberals? Also, nice touch at the end with "So far, mon ami."

It's better than the real Senate.
