  • Can you store acorns? If you can do you shell them or just leave them in the shell and put em up somewhere?

  • @SurvivalistWannabe the best way is to shell and roast them then store them.

  • Lol at houseoffire....iknowright

  • Very very informative, tyvm. Especially about the poison ivy cubes and tanning hides....just when you think you know it all.....

  • you said that these can replace nuts in cookies and such. If you have a nut allergy, do you think acorns will affect you the same?

  • @MrCitizensoldier humm probably not but sense nut allergies are very dangerous I would take any chances.

  • I think Im in love:) will you marry me??? Just kidding but for real- your one intelligent woman and pretty as well:) Watched alot of your vids, I learned something off each one of them... Keep'em coming!!!

  • I think I'll make a video about acorns, here in the North West we have a different type, and I heard of a really interesting way of getting rid of the tannin I want to try.

  • Very wonderful video. It is great that you are including the youngin's in your videos. It's exciting to see our younger kids being so enthusiastic about these great facts about how to survive on nature. I look forward to your next video and the one on 'Apache Cakes'. Thanks again. God bless you and yours. Peace!

  • Wow! Love the moss hanging from the tree, make for a great still picture.

    What park is it in?

  • @icicicles Afton Villa Gardens St Francisville La

  • @MayeuxMinistries Thanks, and thanks for the very informative videos.

  • You can actually eat the worms but you have to cook them. The worms are high in protein & I hear the taste like eggs.

  • tks for anoter great video

  • Your videos are of very high quality, thank you. This website has some good Acorn recipes on it too.

  • great video.

  • Yeah ... Another great vid ! I live in Texas and we also have scads of Live Oak and I have been studying how to process and utilize them ... There is a YT producer named Green Dean and his channel is "eattheweeds", I think.

... Right now, I am wondering if it breaking up the nuts (some) would accelerate the leaching process and I am also wondering how much (many) Live Oak "nuts" a person can eat, if they are not leeched and if leeching Live Oak nuts would make them more digestible. Hmmm ?

  • @phrankus2009 Yea breaking then up does help. If you are using acorns from red oaks of any other that contains a lot of tannin you need to crush the nuts up. However Live oak acorns don't require this. You could eat quite a bit. They don't have much tannin and yes I would think a hot water bath would digestion though probably not cold flushing.

  • @MayeuxMinistries Thanks Mary (and crew) ... This really helps me cement my understanding.

  • lots of great information I'm so happy I watched, thanks!

  • Are the nuts still sweet after they've been boiled of soaked for tannin?

Do the nuts have to be shelled before they're roasted or soaked?

What kind of camera did you use? The sound was really good.

I only learned about important the acorns were to the natives about a year ago.

One of my reasons for reviewing the survival stuff is to understand why the natives didn't die when the first settlers did.

Anything you know about them would be great to see.

    Thanks much.

  • @McHenryAnge They are sweeter after you process the tannin out. Yes shell them first before socking and roasting but don't shell them until you are ready to do this as the meat tends to dry out in a day or 2 of air exposure.

  • Do you boil them before or after you shell them?

  • @8ogles after. If there is a lot of tannin crush the nut meat into peaces to help remove the tannin. If there is very little you can leave then whole of halfed.

  • Thanks for sharing... excellent information and very inspiring! looks like a beautiful fall day there! You're a great teacher, ma'm! Best wishes and godspeed -
