I got this game scince yesterday and played 5 hours scince then. I just had to stop playing because else I still would've been playing this game right now. Its allready my favorite Wii-game and I recommend it to anyone with a Wii-console. And if you don't have a Wii: go buy one 'cause this shit you gotta play!
Even though it's been announced for the US, I think the damage is already done in terms of sales, as most of the people who wanted to play probably have already done so by modding the system to play a legal imported copy or illegally downloaded copy. : (
In my opinion the two best games this year were Xenoblade Chronicles and Radiant Historia. One didn't come out in NA and the other didn't come out in Europe. Regions are a bitch!
I'm just 6 hours into this game and I can't stop thinking about it, theres just something about it. Its 7:48 AM here in Sweden, I havent slept yet and I just don't want to stop playing!
Hey not sure if you heard yet, but it was announced for the US today lol (which is the main reason I'm watching your review)! Anyway the game looks great, I loved games like White Knight Chronicles so I'm sure I'll like this one as well (now I just have to wait half a year, but its ok, I've got other games to play till then).
Is there multiplayer for this game? Can you connect to the web and play with other people? What about people in the same room as you, could you play with them? Thank you!
nice review very informative, hmmm skyward sword comes out this friday and im not sure on whether to get this or zelda, im doing alevels atm so my parents wouldn't be very happy if i came home with 2 ,so i should only get one, any any opinions would be much appreciated.
Good review and a wonderful game, but saying it's like Star Ocean:Last Hope and Infinite Undiscovery is about a accurate as saying Star Wars is like The Phantom Menace...
your review is excellent one of the most complete i got the game and i agree with you on practically everything, this is not a game you wanna pass on.
I got to play this at Nintendo connection today (a small Nintendo tour in Australia) I didn't know what it was but when i got into it it was great! Can't wait to get it!
The guy telling me about it said it took him 60 hours to complete, how long has it taken you?
@dude1996skatenbike I'm over 45 hours in and still rolling. My work schedule rotates and I end up having less time to do things like play games. It's life I guess. I'm sure I'll finish the game before the end of October.
@FoxeoGames I love the directional arrow, it runs off a intuit sense of direction style of guidance which flows with their open world style of settings. it encourages you to explore, where as having the hard guided types of arrows, take away that true feeling from games. it's not like the old days anymore, people all want helping hands.. hell when i started playing games you had to figure out the things for yourself, it's kinda disappointing. This game bridges the gap, and beautifully.
@dude1996skatenbike well, im near 80 hours and I haven't finished it yet, I also haven't done all the sidequests. You're looking at well over 100 hours for everything, maybe 150?
You covered everything but the story, which is what made Chrono Trigger and FF3 so great. How's the story for this game, besides the fact that it's about a single person with a magic sword that saves the world?
@morbozim I talked a little about the story and that I thought it was really good, but other than that, it's hard for me to say anything more than the initial setting and beginning of the game. I mean, the truth is, how do you explain what is so great about a story without giving part of it away? I can talk about what makes the graphics good, and give examples of the music, but the story? I'd ruin it to really talk about everything that makes it so good.
This game is impossible to buy in the U.K at the moment, its sold out everywhere. Yes we can buy them from Ebay but they are selling for around £80 - £100 ($127 - $159) because of this, im pretty sure it will get a North American release, they would be stupid not to release it. I only wish I saw your review sooner so I could of got hold of this game. Hopefully stores will stock it again soon, I have pre-ordered it from Amazon as they are expecting more stock soon (I hope).
@VideoGamePlayerUK I believe it. I checked to see about ordering it from several stores, who all reported Out of Stock. Luckily for me, I met a LOT of people from all over the world when I was living in Japan, and I was able to arrange to get a copy from the UK that way. Guess you had to get it right away. As more people play this game, they will INSIST that their friends get it and play it. Reviewers are giving it strtng scores, landing it as the sixth highest ranking Wii game on Metacritic
Really, really, really good review man. I agree this is one of the best RPG's in a long time. It gives me the same feeling FF7 did so many years ago. Albeit in an even more grand scale. I'm only a few hours in, but so far it's been nothing short of perfection.
My one gripe, which was also one of your cons. Was when using the classic controller it's impossible to move your character and select combat arts at the same time. Hopefully it's something I can look past.
@csims59 I'll mention more about it in a "reflections" video, but my biggest complaint about the game didn't come until after I completed both parts of the review. While the game continues to be awesome and develop a great story, the character "Riki" is just annoying and stupid IMO. I hate every time that dumb little bouncing blob opens his mouth. But that's Japan for you, the need to throw in overly cutesy, silly, inane characters. Xenogears had Chu-Chu, to be fair.
Region Lock is really evil and should have been abanded long ago.
I have been on the recieving end for a long time and that is why I have got a PS3 and PSP and old DS so I don't have to miss out on games like these.
But since this is being released in my territory before USA, I guess I have got it lucky for once but I do feel for you guys in the USA because I have been though it all before.
@TBoneTony the DS did away with the ridiculous region locking. All region locking really does is make sure that you can't buy games from other places. And let's be honest, hasn't just about any and every gaming system had their region lock "broken" by some means, either hard- or soft-modding? I brought my DS Lite from Japan to the US, and it's nice to know I can still buy games for it here. However, my PS2 from Japan is virtually useless since I'd have to hard-mod it to get US games to work.
I prefer the classic controller pro option, but then again I've played RPG's on the PS2, PS1 and SNES for a while now, so I guess I'm just more used to it.
I just got to the Erith Sea, game is bloody awesome! My party of choise is Shulk, Sharla and Riki (so funny and adorable!).
While I've played a few great JRPG's like Eternal Sonata (PS3 ver.), and Valkyria Chronicles, this is the best RPG (not just JRPG) this generation IMO, and I'm not even 1/3 through! Can't wait to continue at some point
@pepe220987 You're right, exploration is both fun and rewarding. I mentioned that in part 1, but I didn't really emphasize the scale of the world that is available to explore.
It's nice to see that people are enjoying the game as much as I am. Xenoblade deserves the praise that it got and more. It's such a remarkable game in every way.
I don't remember if you talked about this but there are almost no load times when you're exploring the huge and impressive world of the game!
Also, I use the red CCPro and I think it works perfectly. However, the combat can get pretty intense so I might give the Wiimote and Nunchuk a try.
@redxix88 Yeah, there are pretty much ZERO load times. The game runs very, very smooth and fluid. I didn't specifically mention that in either part of the review. I also didn't mention the sheer amount of additional content in the game, like the reconstruction of Colony 6, that adds so much value to the game. It's great to have so much to do apart from the main storyline.
Just got the game after i saw this review, i was afraid of doing so, because it looks a lot like FFXII, that i hated a lot, but i'm really enjoying it. The only downside is that my Wii in plugged in a 4:3 television, it forces two black stripes on my screen, making it a lot smaller, so reading menus and maps is a bitch hahaha
the game is comming to the wii next month

Great review! Great game!
I do think you should have discussed the enormous vastness of the Bionis world.
It's really satisfying to just go and explore the world discovering secret areas which have no relation to the main storyline whatsoever.
