This is lip sync...they may have performed it but the sound is from the album.
I was struck by something Justin said "I wish record companies were as interested in my future as they are in my past..." it's a crime they aren't in the Rock n Roll hall of Fame they are overdue. I think the songwriting and performance skills of this band rival ANY band.
There is hope, though! As my hope & treasures are set in the heavenly realm! No rust can destroy, no moth can eat, no thief can steal! HOPE & an eternal HOME!
I can't get over how teeny Graem's drum kit seems. Daniel, I can't say that I agree that Justin resembles John Foggerty, but I do think Justin was absolutely beautiful in this time period (back when we were ALL younger)...
it sounds like another past life memory to me...the handome, brave knight traveled for days in the hot sun,and cold to take his bride back with him to his homeland...but he had to return without her because her nobleman father would not give his consent...lost love that has been memoralized in several of his songs...knights in white satin, tuesday afternoon, king and queen, question and more...it so sad...soul mates that may never meet...
This entire concert was lipsynched but that's what was done back then. On Lazy Day you can see John Lodge laughing as he misses the cues and Ray Thomas' harmonica mimes are purposely off, but live or not these guys were great and this TOCCC was and is my fav. MB album.
Some of the songs from this concert have live vocals, like Question, but this is not one of them, this is completely from the album. Any true Moodies fan would know this immediately. Just take a look at 1:47, the second "ah ah ah ah" by Justin, he is away from the mic, looking down, playing his guitar and isn't singing.
It doesn't matter a lot to me, though, I just am so happy to be able to see them "playing" at this young age. Justin is sooooooooo beautiful. :)
Like fine wine! better with age. I been Moodys fan since "67", and every year appreciate more. tyvm for this!!-- ps. I still have original vinyl lp33!!!
I keep coming back to this video time after time. There is something magical about this song that affects me in the best way. Have always loved the Moodies, since grade school, am now in my 50s.
One of their best songs from one of their best albums...well, ALL of their songs are truly great, but that album/compilation really touched me when it came out - "To Our Childrens', Childrens' Children". Wow.
The only problem with this video is, and it may have been pointed out elsewhere, is that they are not performing what you are hearing. This is the original recording from the record. To bad it isn't real, looks like it was a good performance.

I rented this movie from netflix. It's live vocals, over recorded music. It was done for a TV show and was designed to look like a live concert. The audience was indeed watching them perform (sing) live, over their own recorded music. So, it's sort of the reverse of lip-syncing. It's band -syncing. I think the TV producers wanted to create a live performance effect, without submitting to the crappy acoustics produced in many small clubs. It made their sound mixing job much easier
@karmices This video is from, The Moody Blues The Lost Performance Live In Paris 70
The way I understand it, the vocals are live and everything else is dubbed. However, some songs were lifted directly from the albums. If you watch the entire film, you can tell which songs have live vocals. You might be right. This might be a direct from album dub. But I guarantee there are live vocals on some songs. I stopped trying to figure out which songs are which. I Just watched and enjoyed The Moody Blues
@skybluemarshall Exactly...and you know what? It's absolutely FINE!! We all know what we are hearing and can still enjoy watching this video. Why so many negative comments about the production of this concert? Bands went with the direction they were given. One thing's for sure, they never could have predicted YouTube and how this concert would be resurrected, decades into the future. Now THAT'S something worth commenting on!!
I'm not sure but the music isn't in time with this video; it's most obvious with the drumming: drum fills sometimes simply aren't there. And the audience clapping is wrong. Also, try listening to this with the recorded version - strangely similar. I smell something fishy....
Wait maybe that's the whole point because I watched it again and it's so obviously not the actual recording of the performance. All the same gem of a video but can't shake that feeling of being a bit deceived..
@soadtoadmerhaba I'm certain it's the studio recording too. I saw MB live twice and was disappointed/ All their songs were like playing a 45 on 33-1/3. I love this song though and the video reminds me of why I was in love with Justin back then.
Its so good that all you people are still talking about the moody's I still feel connected to that culture. I have seen the Moodys many times. The Moodys were not touring for a while I think it was the late 70s. Then after several years the Moodys returned and I saw their first return tour at Jones Beach Theather. The song that every one went crazy and every one sang was Timothy Leary. I thought to my self Oh man all these people were acid heads in their younger days Johnny G Long Island Peace
Yep...I am sad to say this one is lip-synched. @sgold1 I am going to see the Moody Blues at the St Michele Winery in Woodinville,WA tonite!!!!!!!!!!!!.I have loved this band since I was in middle school in the early 70's............
Looking back on when the Moody blues came out with all this great stuff, it was a very bold move. It was unlike Zepplin,Stone,Floyd, Doors, or any oth the rest of the music of that time. If it hadn't worked, it would have a pretty big enchalata hanging out there. Takes guts to make a move like that! I'm glad they did.
left without a hope of coming home...thats like walking down the sidewalk on a cold blistery day around the corner with the wall of white bricks beside you. where can I go?
I wonder if there's more than one message hidden within the lyrics - metaphorically, the war in SE Asia, and how it displaced people, and put them out in the elements..? Subtle meanings at different levels seems the hallmark of the Moody Blues..
I've LOVED the Moodys since as far back as I can recall ; since about 1972 when I was 2 years old ! I used to hear "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon" at the Lucky's supermarket by my house ; their supurb music has long stuck with me !
when I was 17, at parties, at large homes, we used to sit with slow gin and 7 up, a half pint in a slurpy too.....for each one of us, and listen to The Doors in the dark corners of the home...Both are great.
Thats great that young people can see their old and new videos etc and know how great they are. I loved how at 16 they're taped tv show showed them so dam cute and they had no idea of their future fame and popularity. And to TheCharliewatts above, WHO CARES IF THEY HAD TO LIPSYNC ...they had no choice...their alive and thats good enough.
When I was 17-19 (around 1990) I spent many weekend nights taking a bunch of LSD and listening to the old Moody Blues albums with headphones. Some of the most profound and life-changing experiences I've ever had.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
when i was 17 i lived in the walls of my granmas house and ate crickets ...also i would take long walks while ingesting large amounts of goat tranquilizers...it was a wild time maaan !!
I would be quite interesting if denny lane took mikes, place , for that matter rejoined the moody blues live on tour. then they could do a new version of best way to travel.
I love the Moodies from the 60's thru the early 70's. Seventh Sojourn and EGBDF, were decent efforts but really, Question of balance was really their last great album. Days of Future Past, In search of the lost chord, threshold of a dream, to our childrens children, all are some of may favorite albums ever. Caught live from 77 is great too but of course that is a live recording from 69. sad thing is everything theyve done since about 72 has SUCKED! Sorry, but I cant figure out what happened.
continued, how could the same band produce such outstanding music in the late 60's early 70's and then produce such unforgetable crap like they dont the last 37 years or so? I dont get it. but when I go to see them live I just want to hear the good stuff, they shouldnt play the 80's crap. Great video post by the way!
loved the moody blues lps this is my fav track of theirs, went to see them live in manchester at their peak, but show a big let down, but love their records
I only had a Dolly Sprint in 1970's but bombing down the M1 to London to see the girlfriend with Gypsy on the 8 track full blast............absolute brillant mem's. Thanks for reminding me what it was like when life just seemed that much more focused and people where slightly more sane than they are today.
At the U of I in Champaign i had my turntable hooked
up to a timer that would every morning play To Our Childrens Childrens Children an hour before my first class. Those were the days of future past my friends.
chuck, there's a longtime rumor in Moodyfandom that Kurt Loder who runs the R&RHoF has some kind of hate on for Justin and has sworn the Moodies will never get in as long as he controls it. R&RHoF is meaningless without them. Look at a lot of what is in. Says it all. (It's like the Walk of Fame - meaningless for the past couple decades - just promo crap.)
Moodies will be remembered long after Loder is dust.
Not Kurt Loder, but Jan Wenner, I think. But yeah, it's ridiculous that people like Madonna (POP "artist", mind you) can get in, but the Moodies can't.
Why are they not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!!!!

Is that a wood flute or s it just painted black?
DJMoxie 1 year ago
@DJMoxie That is a very expensive flute. The body is ebony with a silver head and keys.

Love this song
DJMoxie 1 year ago
Looking back on when the Moody blues came out with all this great stuff, it was a very bold move. It was unlike Zepplin,Stone,Floyd, Doors, or any oth the rest of the music of that time. If it hadn't worked, it would have a pretty big enchalata hanging out there. Takes guts to make a move like that! I'm glad they did.

This is the studio version, isn't it?
Moeghoeg 2 years ago
It is--they lipsynched for this. Sure do love this song, though.
Villagejonesy 1 year ago
@Villagejonesy They're definately lipsynching. Pinders is behind a Hammond organ...not the Mellotron. Hammonds don't make string sounds.
Keyboardman88 1 year ago
@Keyboardman88 Yes, definitely. Love hearing the song, however it is (though I can't stand lipsynching!)
Villagejonesy 1 year ago
@Keyboardman88 you may be right about the instruments but listening to this whole concert its obvious the vocals atleast are done on sight
donwh18 1 year ago
@Keyboardman88 yes i see a few other differences.. B-3s even w/ percussion (and they all had that, A100s B3s C3s) can't get that sound

Easily one of the greatest groups in rock history. The first really big band to combine rock and classical music.
smokiebird06 2 years ago 48
@smokiebird06 really shows their genius to be able to integrate an orchestra into their work. It has truely made them timeless.
igersRfun 1 year ago
@smokiebird06 Also THE first band to use a full orchestra, ie: "Days of Future Past".

Weissmenchland 2 years ago 7
I don't know about messages but I lke the way they perform this now better than the 70s version. It is louder and more forceful.
PinkPrism008 2 years ago
I wonder if there's more than one message hidden within the lyrics - metaphorically, the war in SE Asia, and how it displaced people, and put them out in the elements..? Subtle meanings at different levels seems the hallmark of the Moody Blues..
chuckkottke 2 years ago 5
The TOCC album is a time capsule. It honors the 1969 moon landing. it is a space album. It is a very lonely album.
djwne62 2 years ago 6
I couldn't agree more with your assessment of it being "... a very lonely album. " . Perfect !

when I was 17, at parties, at large homes, we used to sit with slow gin and 7 up, a half pint in a slurpy too.....for each one of us, and listen to The Doors in the dark corners of the home...Both are great.
chocolatcats 2 years ago
Thats great that young people can see their old and new videos etc and know how great they are. I loved how at 16 they're taped tv show showed them so dam cute and they had no idea of their future fame and popularity. And to TheCharliewatts above, WHO CARES IF THEY HAD TO LIPSYNC ...they had no choice...their alive and thats good enough.

there stands the best of the UK.
NO ONE writes as they do
and so overlooked by anyone under 40, too bad, one day they'll listen and be stunned

When I was 17-19 (around 1990) I spent many weekend nights taking a bunch of LSD and listening to the old Moody Blues albums with headphones. Some of the most profound and life-changing experiences I've ever had.

CosmicCowboyRevival 2 years ago
continued, how could the same band produce such outstanding music in the late 60's early 70's and then produce such unforgetable crap like they dont the last 37 years or so? I dont get it. but when I go to see them live I just want to hear the good stuff, they shouldnt play the 80's crap. Great video post by the way!
CosmicCowboyRevival 2 years ago
Mike Pinder's Mellotron was the sound of the moodies...you are right ....itz just not the same...Octave wasn't too bad though...

I only had a Dolly Sprint in 1970's but bombing down the M1 to London to see the girlfriend with Gypsy on the 8 track full blast............absolute brillant mem's. Thanks for reminding me what it was like when life just seemed that much more focused and people where slightly more sane than they are today.

chuck, there's a longtime rumor in Moodyfandom that Kurt Loder who runs the R&RHoF has some kind of hate on for Justin and has sworn the Moodies will never get in as long as he controls it.
