I'm a somewhat of a fan of hip hop music, and I do realize that it is put into a context that kids today understand. This song is much exactly like the videos played on BET. I'm not black, but many of my friends are. Alot of them have told me that they feel this video address the issues of the black community and that it was long overdue. They feel and have told me numerous times that this is the truth. And my school, which is majority black, most of the student body still feels the same way.

I think the biggest point that parents who are freaking out are missing, is the fact that the cartoon features garbage, however it is the exact same garbage that fills the rap videos before and after it on the TV.

Yea, you're right they would be. But BET doesn't do anything to get rid of the stereotypes and probably doesn't want to. Noticeably after it switched from black to white ownership anything truly informative was removed from programming. It basically became a black MTV, only with more showings of Soul Plane. And I don't know if you knew but a video by the artists in the group Little Brother was turned down because it apparenlty was "too smart for it's viewers." BET isn't tryin to help shit.

I'm not black, but many of my friends are. Alot of them have told me that they feel this video address the issues of the black community and that it was long overdue. Kids get out of school at 2:15/2:30, parents may get home at let's say 4:30 & kids won't listen - go figure.Shows come on at 3:00 & parents are outraged. There was a time when BET was decent but the fact is that it's not owned by Blacks and really not controlled by Blacks, just Black figure heads.Parents shouldn't have to fight these networks for decent programming at 3PM. Anyone who thinks cartoons are only for children nowadays is very mistaken. I'm 26 and love cartoons, mainly ones geared to adults. Like the creators of "read a book" said, if your kids are watching the videos this one video is sandwhiched between then there is already a problem there. Then again as long as they understand that these videos don't portray what they should strive to be in life and their parents actually take a hand in raising them there should be no problem with this satire.

The basic message "Read A Book" etc. is positive. The profanity not so much, but when you try to come at these kids like a PSA they smell it from a mile away!
They shut down. If nothing else, this man most certainly did get a dialogue started! I commend him for his efforts!

Any person with half a working brain can see this video is intended for an older audience. Let's see, the opening scene is of D'Mite in an auditorium with a bunch of highschoolers. Kids in their late teens, Not kids from 6 - 12. Then the next scene is in a club with the message "Raise your kids" How many 12 year olds can you think of who have kids of their own? Next is suggesting you buy land and not spinning rims. Again, how many kids can afford to buy a pack of gum, let alone land!

It also delivers an essential message - that mastery of basic social skills is a foundation upon which success in any field depends - in a "voice" that its audience will appreciate & pay attention to. An interesting parallel is "Swinging On A Star", different culture, different era, same basic message. Naysayers need to learn what Social Marketing means...

I think the biggest point that parents who are freaking out are missing, is the fact that the cartoon features garbage, however it is the exact same garbage that fills the rap videos before and after it on the TV.
I love the focus on the crude booty shaking. Have any of these people watched rap videos? They have the same thing with REAL booty.
