@joshuanesbit Non spaniards tend to believe that every folk dance in Spain is "flamenco", and this is not flamenco. Sevillanas boleras is a kind of dance that has absolutely nothing to do with flamenco. Absolutely not.
@joshuanesbit Sevillanas is a folk dance with its set of dance routine. Castanets are used to give a more uplifting feel to dancing and music.
However, flamenco is not a folk dance due to it's an expressive art form of the performing person. It's spontaneous in singing, guitar-playing and/or dancing. And...flamenco does not use castanets. Castanets will take away the essence of the style of flamenco, such as alegrias, bulerias, tangos, farrucas, etc....
@nadaquefazer I agree flamenco bmore is of expressing how you feel - what mood and it's an amazing improvisation. Sevillanas is more structured but I've heard castanets sometimes in falmenco.....
@joshuanesbit neither flamenco neither sevillanas are moorish. Sevillanas has root on castilian seguidillas and flamenco is a gipsy developed gender with root on old spanish and mediterranean styles
@joshuanesbit Not in flamenco but casnanetes and "bandurrias" (small luthes) are essential in folk traditional music like this one is, specially in Southern ad Eastern Spain (Balearic Islands, Aragon, Navarra, Valencia, La Mancha, Andalusia...).
I LOVE this video. I watch and play it almost every day - at least, at the moment. The dancers are beautiful and passionate and absolutely, perfect as dancers. I, particularly, like the female dancer - with quite a serious face, though this doesn't put me off, probably, the opposite - in a maroon dress who dances at the beginning and in the middle, though, not at the end. Please, tell her.
Wow. Me encanta las sevillanas boleras. Acá en Argentina bailamos siempre. Y este video lo pusieron en el video del espectaculo anual de la academia de danzas españolas a la que voy.
