Notice how the intro sounds like the beginning of a Beach Boys song of that era (California Girls , The Little Girl I once Knew, etc). My favorite LG song!
This is for My Barbra -- My Darling, True, and Eternal Love. You liked this song because we never had a chance to live it out. We never made it to the sands of a California beach. You were my wife for only two years and then cancer entered into the equation. You are STILL my wife -- my soulmate -- FOREVER! Wait for me on Heaven's resplendent shore. I know we WILL be together (Forever)!
@mickeymousebiker1 I know what you are going through. My wife, Betty is her name, we were married for 35 years. Breast cancer took her life. Life for me will NEVER be the same. There isn't a woman on this earth that could take her place . Which is to say I will probably die alone, that doesn't bother me. It has been 7 years without her, the hurt, the pain, the tears are still here, just not as bad the day she died.
@ronnyl2 I can only say that we will be reunited with our gals someday soon. This world is winding down. Before she died, I told My Barbra that The Almighty was taking her home, to Heaven, at a time when things all over this world would become worse and worse. My Barbra died on November 21/22, 2010. Look what's been happening all around the world since that time. You WILL see your beloved Betty again in Heaven!
Man I'm only 22 but why can't music be like this anymore? Actually played with INSTRUMENTS and people singing with their own voices. For awhile, I was only familiar with "It's My Party" and "Sunshine/Lollipops until I heard this.
I really like most of Leslie gore's songs, but this is definately my favourite. Its a haunting, and wistful, I'm glad to see she had a hit with it. I remember her singing it on Batman. She had a very successful career, and Leslie, you still got what it takes girl!
Great song back in the 60s as well as now. Did you know Lesley Gore sang this song on the Batman TV series? She played one of Catwoman's henchwomen. She did a good job, too.
@irarube Yes... In fact, he and Lesley collaborated in writing many many times, including on the soundtrack to Fame... "Out Here on My Own" was co-written by both...
ty. That is a great song. i remember it winning an Oscar with Irene Cara singing it.
One great Michael Gore soundtrack that I never can seem to find is his..... Mr. Wonderful. Many critics panned this movie... I think Anthony Minghella's first, but I liked it a lot.
What I like about singers back then is they didn't feel the need to purposely crack their voice before they sing a word like almost every singer does today which absolutey annoys the hell out of me.
I absolutely love this song. It is just a shame that the song on the album(and the single record) isn't longer. The song ends too abruptly. I first heard the song, as did so many other people, when I saw Leslie Gore sing it on the original Batman TV Series in the 1960's.
In many ways, this IS my all-time favorite from Lesley. I just never, ever tired of hearing it, & today, it's still the case. Simply gorgeous vocal from a 60's Legend. Wolfsky9
@odovicor - Okay, you win. I was on my way out to grocery shop but find you far too compelling to go out. I don't need food in the house that badly. I'm sure we've only touched the tip of the iceberg when it comes to music. I did just write someone about Lesley Gore, the LP, etc. Some of the instrumentation was wonderful. I believe the opening to Calif. Nts. had a Moog synthesizer - not sure what sound it was trying to emulate. And I believe there was a honky tonk piano in another tune. Ideas!
@odovicor - I just saw your other msg re. Donne's "Death be not Proud." I have read it numerous times beginning in early high school while I was still working through my great-grandmother's suicide. It has to be one of the most heart-wrenching books I've read and every time it takes on new meaning. I also like "Do Not go Gentle into that Good Night." Thank you for taking the time to consider "my soul mate" - I appreciate that verbiage. I also forgot to answer you re. you, Lesley and me - I'm in.
@pkappel006 - Hi, same way here. I can still remember opening what I thought was a Supremes album on Christmas as a kid. When I saw Lesley Gore and "CALIFORNIA NIGHTS" on the front of that album cover I went crazy. I don't have the LP cover in front of me, but I believe she had on a pink polka-dot dress with some funky stockings with her arms somewhat pulled back like she were doing a tricep exercise. And to think - all her sucessful tunes. One of my favs. on the album - "The Bubble Broke." HA.
We should be on Helen Thomas' website arguing her and not here. Once again I apologize but the gentleman is truly Schizophrenic (he's admitted openly) and makes life "interesting" for everyone on Helen's site.I was here because I love Lesley Gore then he showed up. Once again, sorry this happened.
I find it amazing that a stalker would follow me onto a Lesley Gore site. Folks, this is exactly what truthforever1 is doing. He's a Jew wannabe and hates me for my beliefs. His comments are lies, he has no credibility, he's malicious and filled with vitriol. I'm usually called a Muzzie (Muslim) monkey, faggot, queer, etc. I'm not Muslim, certainly not a monkey, gay - yes, but so was Lesley Gore, Dusty Springfield and a myriad of other celebrities. I'm sorry for him for posting on this site.
@argerichluvr Isn't he/it creepy? What parents "it" must have had! Stop commenting to it/thing. Ignore thing/it from this point on. I love GoGo boots, flying to Berlin on New Years Day to catch the Philharmonic perform Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Wagner's Ring in Amsterdam...all things that are alien to the periphery of the depraved "it"(not the deprived) life. Thanks much, Dearest, for recognizing the sublimity of the Ronnettes! Their knee action? ChaCha forever, not that "it"forever.
@odovicor - Thanks. Yes, I've stopped comm. with it and his entourage. I think your post is fantastic. You see, my colledge degrees are in classical piano so I, too, love opera, symphonic literature and of course classical piano rep. I had the chance (many years ago) to play Beethoven's Emperor in Berlin but had to cancel because of a car wreck. I was just sick. And Wagner! You have VERY eclectic and sophisticated tastes - from Wagner's Ring to Mr. B. to the Ronnettes. You're great in my book!!!
@argerichluvr My gift to the music world is to listen, however much I envy and admire you performers. I just alluded to Chopin in talking about a Whitman poem. Mozart would probably love the Ronnettes--you know how irreverant he could be. Wagner brings out the "Excalibur" teenager in me. Appreciate this: 5 hours of Tristan und Isolde, awaiting that gorgeous Liebstod, which passes all jealousy tests. Sadly, Gorecki passed this past week. Let's you, me, and Leslie do our own fan club! LOL
@odovicor Yes, listening is crucial for both the performer and the audience. And with Chopin - what Whitman poem? I adore Whitman. It's only too bad those wild and crazy Ronnettes didn't have F6 to sing the Queen of the Night in Zauberflote (forgive my lack of umlaut.) And you are a far more disciplined person than myself - 5 hours of Tristan makes my behind fall asleep, despite intermissions, EXCEPT at the Met. Jimmy Levine is a dear friend and conducted this several years ago. I don't remember
@argerichluvr Your star is rising! I actually saw/heard T&I at the Berlin State Opera--sans ac in the summer! I was going to say ass-numbing, butt (Chortle) I held back. I rarely get to the Met as I rarely do NY. Alas, I'm too poor to travel as I would like. The Whitman poem doesn't mention any composer, but in "A Locomotive in Winter" he talks about the engine using many musical terms. Cheers!
@odovicor Sans A/C! Yikes. I bet that was stinky! I was going to say malodorous like you were going to say ass...LOL. I've been extremely blessed - I have a pied-a-terre in NYC so get there pretty often. If you ever want to use it let me know. Thanks for the info on Whitman - I'll look into it. Of the Liszt songs I mentioned, Oh, quand je dor is one of the schmaltziest ones, but kills me every time I coach it. Please listen to it and let me know what you think. On my way out for now. Talk soon?
@argerichluvr I had to YouTube Oh, Quando..." and got Ms. Kiri for my efforts. The lyrics are lovely, and, as you say, schmaltzy." But like Whitman, we "contain multitudes." The dream world in music is such a lovely notion--where angel will turn to woman (or something like that, wnk). Thematically, it evokes the "consummation" (hateful word) scene in T&I, where the nymphs lull the pair into bliss. FYI-- I was thinking the poet Donne's Holy Sonnet--"Death be not proud." Sorry!
@odovicor (2) the soprano's name off the top of my head but she was stellar. I was enraptured the entire time. Yes, I saw Gorecki passed away on the 12th and was saddened. I love his 3rd symphony, especially with Dawn Upshaw for whom I don't particularly care. But she does a great job. I also didn't realize his influence on Nono and Stockhausen. Too bad it takes a death to make one realize whom they've lost. I'm also a huge fan of Liszt - have you heard some of his songs for voice/piano?
@argerichluvr I love Helga Dernesch's Isolde. Ther first recording of Gorecki I heard was by a Polish soprano, post Upshaw, I believe. About Liszt I know very little beyond his usual fare, and that he was father-in-law to Wagner.
@ItsMrPumpkinhead2U Back in the sixties and seventies the queers started attaching themselves to minority groups to legitimize their deviant behavior. They focused on the young, impressionable and those that were f*ck*d up in the head like argerichluvrqueer to brainwash them and strengthen their deviant queer cause. This prevented the natural, healthy mental and sexual growth of many individuals. They confused sexual stimulation with admiration for people of the same sex.
@truthforever1 The 60's? Erastos and Eromenos are designations that go back to the ancient Greeks. What you mean is you lived in the 60's and 70's and gays ignored you, and now you're trying to put the philosophers out of work!HAHAHAHAHA--You funny little neurotic. Freud says all love is "self love," which comes nearer the truth than your funny little musings. But when "truthforever" speaks, I suppose we all should pick up our cross and follow you. Keep hating, as everyone needs a career.
@odovicor Just because Eromenos dates back to the ancient Greeks doesn't mean it's not deviant behavior. They had robbery, murder, rape and other atrocious behavior in ancient Greece. I wouldn't even call your agrument specious. It is a lame argument. As I stated before, this deviant cancer we call homosexuality began an all out campaign to legitimize their repugnant behavior in the 1960's and 1970's. It's not hate to put a murderer in prison and it's not hate to stand up against queers!!
@ItsMrPumpkinhead2U - @ItsMrPumpkinhead2U - Thank you for your support. And thank you for giving this idiot who no one pays any attention to anyway a piece of your mind. Great come back. My partner of 13 years, not that it's any of buttfaceforever1's business, died from a brain aneurysm, not aids. We were monogamous all the years we spent together and for "it" to speak such untruths is shocking.
@argerichluvr Now that you know "it" doesn't exist, you may listen to Leslie in peace. About your soul mate, you may want to read Donne's "Death be not proud" as lovely and affirmative as "it." Oh, did you happen to see that terrible "The Passion of Christ"? Well, when Jesus is praying in Gethsemane (sp), that offensive shadowy figure from the abyss is "it."
@ItsMrPumpkinhead2U - (2) This is his wannabe way - he lies like a Jew all the time. And to make him angrier, I really couldn't care less. The nice thing about this, though, is you're seeing him make an ass out of himself and can now see just how much credibility he has - NONE! And then we have this hilarious ranting and raving about the 60's and 70's.........
@ItsMrPumpkinhead2U -(3) I think he needs to take his Thorazine because he has admitted to being Schizophrenic and I truly pity him. I thank God I was not dealt his hand. So, much luck to you in battling these idiots; you really do belong in a different chat where your voice can be heard by intelligent people. Thanks again, my friend.
@ItsMrPumpkinhead2U - Hi, again. I didn't realize he was on Lesley Gore's website. Now he's stalking me because we used to argue on Helen Thomas' site after her debacle with Jewish Heritage Day at the White House. But I can contact Y.T.; he'll get kicked off here for libel and defamation of character.
Queers can't perform up to "straight" standards. It's in the wiring of the brain. I know this queer named peabrain. He goes by the name argerichluvr and is retarded. He is the gay lover of David Duke. Peabrain doesn't have musical aptitude because the brain wiring of a queer is different than a straight person.
@msk7046 - Same here, my friend. I adored her and was in love with her as Catwoman's female hench-person. I insisted I get the album for Christmas (my parents didn't think much of my insistence) but I pleaded I had to have it. They finally found it and after wearing it out, I had all the tunes and libretti memorized. Ah, the innocence of youth.
@teehonky - leave it to you to screw up some innocent song. If I cared, I would like to hear when and where you heard lesbian overtones. But I don't care about either. You're just trying to stir up sh** to ruin it for everyone else. Pander your garbage elsewhere, low life.
@argerichluvr hey STUPID...this lady has ADMITTED that SHE IS A LESBIAN..just like DUSTY SPRINGFIELD....so dont get all hyper about it man....hey, go fixate on Skeeter Davis
@teehonky - I already wrote you, fuc**ng asshole. In it, I told you I'm a gay man but didn't understand the lesbian undertones. For the rest of you, this person is a frigging idiot, calling me stupid for an innocuous remark I left after listening to the tune. This is the kind of garbage (this person) we have to listen to when something is misconstrued. It takes all kinds to make a world but for him to jump my behind because I questioned the lesbianism, come on.
@ABOSS302 - Get outta here! You still have a new album? Whoa! I still have it and thankfully I never ridded myself of my turntable, albeit the LP has been worn to a frazzle. My favorite also. Unlike some folks on here who read things into the tune, it really is simple - without drugs, sex, alcohol and violence. If we could only reverse our progress and move towards simpler times. Thoughts?
Such a sweet voice. I will never tire of it. I get a kick of the small things in life. Being able to enjoy her music, having a good mechanic, and having my toaster on the perfect setting. But being able to enjoy Ms. Gore's music is at the top of my happy life. She brings me such joy. Lucky me.
@oldermusiclover Yes, she is very intelligent. More to admire her. Quincey Jones played an important part too. He knows talent when he sees it. And Ms. Gore has talent to spare. Cheers. I love her so. Her music gives me such joy. She is awesome.
@MrVampiredog - Being a gay man and having had a performance career in piano for years, what on earth are you talking about? "She may be gay but...." Are you saying queers are inferior and can't perform up to "straight" standards? Shocking. Gays aren't people you throw into a corner and forget. Think of Eunice Shriver and her work with the Special Olympics. Come on, we're not tossers like you're implying. We wear flannel and chop wood just like you do, except I have live-in help do it for me.
All you Lesley lovers should check out "Better Angels," a more recent offering.....her voice got real smoky, and that's far from a bad thing......it's in here somewhere!
I am now 53, been to great dance clubs throughout the States, Europe, Austrailia.... Been to Berlin Opera, Symphony, blah, blah, blah, and man-o-man, Leslie still make these feet get up and dance "though they are covered with keloids from the slings and arrows of outrageous romance," Joni Mitchell (and the Shake), LOL. Thanks for posting this song. Youtube is great, for most of the people I grew up with never heard anything other than "It's My Party."
I was six when this song came out I LOVED it s much...and then she sang it on BATMAN the best show ever to a six-year-old. I didn't even really quite know what a California night WAS but the sound of her VOICE the plaintive chords tugged at my heart strings...when I hear it today it's still so profound to me....The other song that rocked my world at that time was 'Come on, Baby, Light my Fire' Ahhh the times they were a-changin'
@kitboy69 I remember this, and I was 8 or 9 when she sang this on Batman. What a dilemma for me, for I loved Leslie and had a crush on Robin! LOL I loved this song so much, too. Funny, when I got my first record player, I bought the Monkee's "Daydream Believer." My cousin bought me, not Light my fire, but "People are Strange," another Doors' tune. On the way to work thlis morning, I was listening to Dylan's "Desolation Row." The times they were a-changin." Peace to you!
@odovicor - Okay, you just wrote my biography. I, too, was 8-9; loved her tune but wanted Robin next to me in my hospital bed having had my tonsils taken out.
And Daydream Believer - ah, next to "Words" my favorite. Sure I loved "Light my Fire" but unfortunately I don't know "People are Strange." Well, unfortunately after 53 years I DO KNOW people are terribly odd and I'd rather have my dogs and my music. Peace to you also, my friend!
@argerichluvr I love "Words" (Nesmith's haunting backup vocals). I bought the Best of the Monkees cd in London a couple of years ago. "She" makes me want to bring out my white gogo boots from the 60's. Well, I never actually had those boots, but I can dream, can't I? LOL
@odovicor I was 8 or 9 when "She " came out, and I thought that had to be the most dramatic, breath taking song I'd ever heard! (At 8/9, it may have BEEN the most dramatic thing I'd ever heard.) I would nearly cry when it was on the radio. Years later- 1987- I saw The Monkees live, in Biloxi, MS and Micky Dolenz goofed and joked his way all the way through the song. I wanted to smack him!
@VABkWrm I was in London a year or so ago and bought the Monkees' greatest hits, "She" being one of my top 5 faves, along with "Words," "Look Out, Here Comes Tomorrow," Daydream Believer," and ? Sorry to hear that MD didn't take his obligation seriously: to entertain his audience, not himself.
Used to be the woman I most wanted when I was in high school. Still look at her as she was in the 1960s and feel nothing but attraction for her. Years later, I still can't believe she prefers women. I wonder what happened to her. What a shame.
@brit1072 - Join the 2000's. I'm a gay man and I prefer men. SO WHAT! And your question - what happened to her? OMG, are you in the dark ages or what? And "what a shame." For whom, you or her? It's not a shame, being gay is genetic and NOT LEARNED BEHAVIOUR, ergo I find your comments totally out of line. How dare you say such things in this day and age. If I want to su** di** then I will. If she wan'ts the opposite, SO WHAT! She's no different than BEFORE you knew of her sexuality. Go learn!
I'm watching her sing it now on an episode of the '60s "Batman" series; she's a phenomenal singer and I feel bad that I didn't become a fan of her music when I was growing up! :-)
@MrVampiredog - Unless she's dead, no, she still IS gay, a.k.a. lesbian. So what if she's a lesbian? I'm a gay man and I don't give two shi**s who knows. God, narrow minded people.
This 'little' song snuck in and grabbed my heart from the first time I heard it. I lived in Ca a few times, and I could always feel the magic this song promised--although that whole myth thing was a real situation--beaches were cold and lonely, and love wasn't so easy to find. There was still some romance about it for me.
I can still remember where I was in 67' the first time I heard this song. Thought "so cool and this lady can really sing". A California night. Could there be any better?
@flydadj i was in brooklyn back in those days irish/italian neighborhood, very nice, romanitic, oved from brooklyn now, the spics and blacks took it over and made it to a ghetto.
I am Mexican-American whose family has been in the U.S. for over a 100 yrs now and I have never had any family live in Mexico. I am not offended by your comments and totally agree, I live here in Houston in a predominantly Anglo neighborhood but the subdivision next us to is quickly down as the illegals from Mexico move in and park their 10 cars on the front lawn, I guess that they have not figured out what the driveway is for yet!!
I'm a Minnesota boy, and remember her voice while fishing on one of our beautiful lakes in northern Minnesota.......in the summer of 1967....I was 15 myboylolliepop09
All these years later its funny how certain songs stay with you and bring back happy memories of our youth. Thanks for the comment Mr pkappe1006. Regards.
yes, your right.........I would ride my bike (3 speed Schwin) and listen to my AM radio Calf. Nights tune...........I was 15 in 1967 and always thought of Calfinoria, someday I said I would go their. And did, I drove out their in a Ford Pinto with my buddy for a whole 2 weeks...........we slept in the car on the beach every night!!!! Now, it's 10 below for the low temperature tonight in St/ Paul, Minnesota.....wow, at least the Minnesota Vikings will win the super Bowl against San Diego Charg
Dear Mr pkappel, Greetings from sunny San Diego where the temperature is currently 67 degrees. Ha! Ha! Glad to hear you and your buddy did make it out here for 2 weeks. Now we'll just see about that super bowl game. Remember the Chargers are currently Undefeated and are gonna stay that way! Regards. Dan..
myboylollipop09......yes the Chargers are undefeated, and I like your QB and running back in LT.........Mr. Peterson and Percy Harvin, what can we say, both are super stars along with Bret Farve.......40 year old that doesn't stop playing the game he loves even as an 40 year old.Have you ever traveled to Minnesota??? Summer time it's beautiful with all our Lakes we have. The most lakes out of any of the states. Winter, we love our Hockey, high school-college and the pro's.
I really enjoy this song but I must say this from the bottom of my heart and from New Orleans. Who Dat!!!!! Love ya it's all good. Your comments about Calf. nights are great!
ziggy.....yes, I hope the Saints win the super bowl, since they beat up on my Vikings and Bret Farve at QB. Yes, CA. was an awsome place to be in my younger years.........I still don't now how I survived on hardly any money for my trip.....you could say it was very well planned out to live on just "change" for food everyday. I was foolish and my Byo-Rythems were click'in @ 100 miles per hour my friend!!!
ziggy, well, the Who Dat!!!! took us all with a win , go Saints........somebody doesn't realize how much fun it is when your just a young man and enjoying the great tunes of Lesley Gore.........growing and all, they missed out
@pkappel006 What a nice image. I was probably running through the woods barefoot in Kentucky! So far from "Caliafornia Nights," but not in my imagination
@teehonky - And as I stated to your dumb ass, why ruin things for everyone? I'm a gay man. Do I suddenly have AIDS - I've been solely with my partner for 13 years? NO. Does Lesley Gore suddenly NOT know how to sing because she's a lesbian? NO. So who could care if she's a lesbian or not? And with your screen name I would bet you're some NWA, am I right? Now when you have something to add to this site, then I suggest come back. In the meantime, why don't you just shut your big ass lips.
@fwellman - Great reply. I come here to listen to "tunes from my past" and relax. Then of course we have to get someone like teehonky to fu** things up for the rest of us. It's become the way of the world and I'm growing sick of it. But fortunately like you said, "does that change her music?" NO, it does not. Thank you. Now teehonky, go bother another site. Try Helen Thomas'. There are vitriolic people on there just like you. Good-night while I listen to Lesley Gore.
Ooh baby, Love you baby, MmmBABY!!!! That says it all!

ChaCha forever, not that "it"forever.
odovicor 1 year ago
@odovicor - Thanks. Yes, I've stopped comm. with it and his entourage. I think your post is fantastic. You see, my colledge degrees are in classical piano so I, too, love opera, symphonic literature and of course classical piano rep. I had the chance (many years ago) to play Beethoven's Emperor in Berlin but had to cancel because of a car wreck. I was just sick. And Wagner! You have VERY eclectic and sophisticated tastes - from Wagner's Ring to Mr. B. to the Ronnettes. You're great in my book!!!
argerichluvr 1 year ago
@argerichluvr My gift to the music world is to listen, however much I envy and admire you performers. I just alluded to Chopin in talking about a Whitman poem. Mozart would probably love the Ronnettes--you know how irreverant he could be. Wagner brings out the "Excalibur" teenager in me. Appreciate this: 5 hours of Tristan und Isolde, awaiting that gorgeous Liebstod, which passes all jealousy tests. Sadly, Gorecki passed this past week. Let's you, me, and Leslie do our own fan club! LOL
odovicor 1 year ago
@odovicor Yes, listening is crucial for both the performer and the audience. And with Chopin - what Whitman poem? I adore Whitman. It's only too bad those wild and crazy Ronnettes didn't have F6 to sing the Queen of the Night in Zauberflote (forgive my lack of umlaut.) And you are a far more disciplined person than myself - 5 hours of Tristan makes my behind fall asleep, despite intermissions, EXCEPT at the Met. Jimmy Levine is a dear friend and conducted this several years ago. I don't remember
argerichluvr 1 year ago
@argerichluvr Your star is rising! I actually saw/heard T&I at the Berlin State Opera--sans ac in the summer! I was going to say ass-numbing, butt (Chortle) I held back. I rarely get to the Met as I rarely do NY. Alas, I'm too poor to travel as I would like. The Whitman poem doesn't mention any composer, but in "A Locomotive in Winter" he talks about the engine using many musical terms. Cheers!
odovicor 1 year ago
@odovicor Sans A/C! Yikes. I bet that was stinky! I was going to say malodorous like you were going to say ass...LOL. I've been extremely blessed - I have a pied-a-terre in NYC so get there pretty often. If you ever want to use it let me know. Thanks for the info on Whitman - I'll look into it. Of the Liszt songs I mentioned, Oh, quand je dor is one of the schmaltziest ones, but kills me every time I coach it. Please listen to it and let me know what you think. On my way out for now. Talk soon?
argerichluvr 1 year ago
@argerichluvr I had to YouTube Oh, Quando..." and got Ms. Kiri for my efforts. The lyrics are lovely, and, as you say, schmaltzy." But like Whitman, we "contain multitudes." The dream world in music is such a lovely notion--where angel will turn to woman (or something like that, wnk). Thematically, it evokes the "consummation" (hateful word) scene in T&I, where the nymphs lull the pair into bliss. FYI-- I was thinking the poet Donne's Holy Sonnet--"Death be not proud." Sorry!
odovicor 1 year ago
@odovicor (2) the soprano's name off the top of my head but she was stellar. I was enraptured the entire time. Yes, I saw Gorecki passed away on the 12th and was saddened. I love his 3rd symphony, especially with Dawn Upshaw for whom I don't particularly care. But she does a great job. I also didn't realize his influence on Nono and Stockhausen. Too bad it takes a death to make one realize whom they've lost. I'm also a huge fan of Liszt - have you heard some of his songs for voice/piano?
argerichluvr 1 year ago
@argerichluvr I love Helga Dernesch's Isolde. Ther first recording of Gorecki I heard was by a Polish soprano, post Upshaw, I believe. About Liszt I know very little beyond his usual fare, and that he was father-in-law to Wagner.

ItsMrPumpkinhead2U 1 year ago
@ItsMrPumpkinhead2U Back in the sixties and seventies the queers started attaching themselves to minority groups to legitimize their deviant behavior. They focused on the young, impressionable and those that were f*ck*d up in the head like argerichluvrqueer to brainwash them and strengthen their deviant queer cause. This prevented the natural, healthy mental and sexual growth of many individuals. They confused sexual stimulation with admiration for people of the same sex.
truthforever1 1 year ago
@truthforever1 The 60's? Erastos and Eromenos are designations that go back to the ancient Greeks. What you mean is you lived in the 60's and 70's and gays ignored you, and now you're trying to put the philosophers out of work!HAHAHAHAHA--You funny little neurotic. Freud says all love is "self love," which comes nearer the truth than your funny little musings. But when "truthforever" speaks, I suppose we all should pick up our cross and follow you. Keep hating, as everyone needs a career.
odovicor 1 year ago

We were monogamous all the years we spent together and for "it" to speak such untruths is shocking.
argerichluvr 1 year ago
@argerichluvr Now that you know "it" doesn't exist, you may listen to Leslie in peace. About your soul mate, you may want to read Donne's "Death be not proud" as lovely and affirmative as "it." Oh, did you happen to see that terrible "The Passion of Christ"? Well, when Jesus is praying in Gethsemane (sp), that offensive shadowy figure from the abyss is "it."
odovicor 1 year ago
@ItsMrPumpkinhead2U - (2) This is his wannabe way - he lies like a Jew all the time. And to make him angrier, I really couldn't care less. The nice thing about this, though, is you're seeing him make an ass out of himself and can now see just how much credibility he has - NONE! And then we have this hilarious ranting and raving about the 60's and 70's.........
argerichluvr 1 year ago
@ItsMrPumpkinhead2U -(3) I think he needs to take his Thorazine because he has admitted to being Schizophrenic and I truly pity him. I thank God I was not dealt his hand. But I can contact Y.T.; he'll get kicked off here for libel and defamation of character.
argerichluvr 1 year ago
Queers can't perform up to "straight" standards. It's in the wiring of the brain. I know this queer named peabrain. He goes by the name argerichluvr and is retarded. He is the gay lover of David Duke. Peabrain doesn't have musical aptitude because the brain wiring of a queer is different than a straight person.

I was six when this song came out I LOVED it s much...and then she sang it on BATMAN the best show ever to a six-year-old. I didn't even really quite know what a California night WAS but the sound of her VOICE the plaintive chords tugged at my heart strings...when I hear it today it's still so profound to me....The other song that rocked my world at that time was 'Come on, Baby, Light my Fire' Ahhh the times they were a-changin'
kitboy69 1 year ago
@kitboy69 I remember this, and I was 8 or 9 when she sang this on Batman. What a dilemma for me, for I loved Leslie and had a crush on Robin! LOL I loved this song so much, too. Funny, when I got my first record player, I bought the Monkee's "Daydream Believer." My cousin bought me, not Light my fire, but "People are Strange," another Doors' tune. On the way to work thlis morning, I was listening to Dylan's "Desolation Row." The times they were a-changin." Peace to you!
odovicor 1 year ago
@odovicor - Okay, you just wrote my biography. I, too, was 8-9; loved her tune but wanted Robin next to me in my hospital bed having had my tonsils taken out.
And Daydream Believer - ah, next to "Words" my favorite. Sure I loved "Light my Fire" but unfortunately I don't know "People are Strange." Well, unfortunately after 53 years I DO KNOW people are terribly odd and I'd rather have my dogs and my music. Peace to you also, my friend!
argerichluvr 1 year ago
@argerichluvr I love "Words" (Nesmith's haunting backup vocals). I bought the Best of the Monkees cd in London a couple of years ago. "She" makes me want to bring out my white gogo boots from the 60's. Well, I never actually had those boots, but I can dream, can't I? LOL
odovicor 1 year ago
@odovicor I was 8 or 9 when "She " came out, and I thought that had to be the most dramatic, breath taking song I'd ever heard! (At 8/9, it may have BEEN the most dramatic thing I'd ever heard.) I would nearly cry when it was on the radio. Years later- 1987- I saw The Monkees live, in Biloxi, MS and Micky Dolenz goofed and joked his way all the way through the song. I wanted to smack him!

Go learn!

@pkappel006 What a nice image. I was probably running through the woods barefoot in Kentucky! So far from "Caliafornia Nights," but not in my imagination

One of Lesley's best!!
From a beautiful time in California--------Huntington Beach, beautiful sands and shore, gorgeous sunsets!
Sadly, that time is gone! Bautiful memories!

Very nice. This was in an episode of Batman as well, in the 60's (where Lesley was guest-starring as an assistant to Catwoman)

@teehonky Does that change her music?
fwellman 1 year ago 6
@fwellman - Great reply. I come here to listen to "tunes from my past" and relax. Then of course we have to get someone like teehonky to fu** things up for the rest of us. It's become the way of the world and I'm growing sick of it. But fortunately like you said, "does that change her music?" NO, it does not. Thank you. Now teehonky, go bother another site. Try Helen Thomas'. There are vitriolic people on there just like you. Good-night while I listen to Lesley Gore.
