  • Haha The music is what used to play when duck did his express round:) I used to love Thomas the Tank

  • So Terrier isn't on his line today then?... Hehe

  • @DarthSTUI Evidently not ;)

I think I filmed this before the upper route became exclusively Terrier's.

  • what a fantastic layout!

  • cool layout my layout does not run smoothly my trains keep randomly stopping and its not the trains its the track but i dont no whats wrong with it and ideas anyone

  • @spitfire538 THE TRACK ISN'T CONNECTED PROPERLY

  • this is one of the best layouts I have ever seen. I'm about to make a layout, do you have any tips?

  • Are of those models cheap?

  • thomas the tank engine music made me smile, very nice layout

  • unreal railway are the trains all hornby

  • @ConorH123456789 Most! But not all. Basically whatever loco we liked the look of we got. Theres Hornby, Bachmann, Triang, all sorts on there.

  • @ConorH123456789 better than urs probably

  • 0:48, That piece of track is BEAUTIFUL

  • @ididi9 I agree, it looks very good

  • Super video, thanks for letting me into view this lovely layout.

    Great stuff.

    Mike.

  • fab vid but all steamers.

  • @Destruktoid24 To be fair though... Me and my grandfather were never aiming for realism in this layout. We just personally think that diesels don't have any character to them!

  • Thomas The Tank Engine is awsome. :( :) :0 :D

  • great layout love the music evrything i could ever ant on youtbe 5 star man

  • Great trains but you spelt Gauge wrong on the opening titles.

  • @dilwich123 Bearing in mind this was over 3 years ago that I made this... I since realise how to spell it ^^

  • lol i love it all exept you cant fool me witht the staion bit i saw the engines go purely together nice try tho

    lovley layout tho =)

  • @StarwarsmadTJ Not many people have noticed this... so good job on spotting it! The mirrors have since all been removed and replaced with a scenic background :)

  • How much d

  • i have just bought my first train set and i was wondering how you made the hills and the scenery

  • @JoshR942 all carved with Styrofoam :) covered in green painted catlitter and scatter

  • More!!! Can We have more of it? I think it;s great so much in so little space .

  • That is Exucite! Your lucky you had a family member like trains non of my family members like trains. SIGH

  • This song is from Thomas the Tank Engine it brings back some great memories, great layout wish I gonna get one hopefully one day

  • my class 31 diesel doesnt want to work on my outer line can you tell me why thanks oh and my little steam train

  • DC or DCC very nice nate

  • I'd like to meet your Grandad. Well, to be honest I just want to play with his trains.

    5*

  • Brilliant, at last a model layout that you don't have to win the lottery to build.

  • ah thomas the tank engine music, great job

  • nice one

  • Great trains, great lay-out.

    Try : treinbaan 016

  • Loved this. Not overcrowded like so many layouts. Aiming for similar kind of thing - GWR 30s, 40s. Grandad's the man !

  • Nice layout and i mean nice layout but the music not the way I thought of it.

  • holy fuck its huge

  • its only 1" x 1"......there is alot of mirrors

  • nice video and nice layout.

  • wow brilliant, reminds me of my childhood watching thomas the tank engine lol

  • love that i go 2 senen cove every year twice on holiday and stay at porthcurno love the beach cafe there

ur layout is amazing and if im not mistaken that is the music from thomas the tank engin

  • Outstanding layout! The station with the double footbridge is very impressive. I like the Pannier running through the gorge. It looks very real. Your grandad has done a really great job! :-)

  • That... is actually purely an optical illusion! Theres actually only one footbridge on the station. The reason there appears to be 2 is because there is a mirror directly next to the station. This mirror has now been removed however to make filming on the layout easier.

  • @CobraRoll HAHA you got me with that one! I was like "wow those trains are perfectly in time...."

  • The music suits it beutifuly

  • how much room does it take up in your house?

  • House space? not a great deal seeing its downstairs in a basement. But in terms of actual size... Id wager on about 12 feet by 12 feet (with each section being about 4 or 5 feet wide)

  • BEAUTIFUL (even in capital letters) is just too short a word to describe this layout!!

Music suits perfectly too. Could you tell us what song is and its performer, please?

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Hey there! Thanks a lot for your kind words!

The song used in this video is from the Thomas and Friends children's show and is called 'The Repairs Theme'. It was written Mike'o'Donnel and Junior Campbell.

  • Great railway. Love the part at 0:50

  • Awesome vid! :) Nice railway too

  • Fantastic layout - I'm so jealous!

  • ooo I love that curvy canyon :O

  • cool layout

  • at 0:59 who was the 2nd green tank engine?

  • The second loco I ever got. Hes un named at the moment :)

  • nice model railway

  • Nice music and layout, I remember it from Thomas the tank engine

  • TRACK PLAN or GTFO

  • Blocking in 3... 2... 1...

Please... Was that in any way a useful comment?

    Blocked.

  • who was the 2nd green tank engine beside Terrier at 0:21, and 0:22?

  • that model railway's HUGE!!! great vid mate

  • who was the 2nd green tank engine beside Terrier?

  • All I can say is wow, stunning layout. *5*

  • Can I just ask, what is the music that you've got playing over the video? I recognise it but can't name it

  • Comment removed

  • it was used in TTTE during seasons 2 and 3 at various places including the viaduct shot at the start of Better Late then Never

  • Isn't it also Toby's theme music?

  • that is well cool how long did it take you to buld?? years i bet

  • It has indeed taken years! The baseboard was first put into place around 2001 and has been developing since.

  • Nice Layout

    What are the Trackplans?

  • Trackplans? What trackplans? :P. This layout was pretty much an "Ok...We have this much space to make a layout on... Lets stick some stuff down and see what works!"

  • Nicely done.

  • Hey nice layout. Two questions though, how did you make the cliffs/mountains; and secondly, what did you use to create the impression of ballast, was is sheet replica, or actual ballast? Thanks

  • Cliffs: Carved Styrofoam, Then with green painted cat litter on ton, then some green scatter where we wanted grass.

    Ballast: Actual Ballast :)

  • how do you make the cliffs?

  • that great im building one myself but it keeps cutting out over some points hmm il get it fixed though. great vid 5*****

  • thats a weelll wikid layout

    Ur grandad rulezz

  • That music reminds me of TTTE for some apparent reason????

  • Nice job, good camera work too.

  • please can you send me some of your TTTE please!

  • I only have music though... :P

  • Music reminds me of thomas the tank engine for a weird reason lol

  • That may be because... It IS from TTTE!

  • really cool :) love it, good use of space

  • Jolly good job

  • where did u get the Styrofoam from

  • :S From a shop which sells styrofoam sheets?

  • how did u make the hills

  • Lots of Styrofoam, Lots of paint, and lots of Cat litter :)

  • You should have more videos about that train set thats like the best on you tube

    (my thought)

  • wow amazing!!!

it makes mine look rubbish :( lol

  • great vid dude

  • Looks Great

  • the music is from thomas the tank engine

  • that is a cool layout.

  • the first bit of the vid ders a short glimpse of ur controller, for the life of me i cant remember the name.

  • Its the (Now discontinued) Hornby HM 4000+ controllers. One double controller with an extra single unit attatched to the side.

  • I wouldnt have a clue of where to start to make a railway like this

  • Well, Let me tell you, it was nowhere NEAR this big when we started out. It kinda developed like the hornby trakmat layout would. Basic circuit to begin with and then more and more stuff was added over time. This is the product of about 6 or 7 years of development.

  • you got a kick ass layout.

  • Have you any Thomas trains?

  • hi i amd fan of hornby 00 i like ur layout. i have started my model railway please look my vide thank-you for reading this

  • thats well coool

  • very nice, I wish I had enough space to make 1 like that!

  • i wish i had enough space to make one like that!

  • very good!

  • cool railway, we are making one a bit like this!

  • wow u have an amazing railway!!

  • When will he be finished, I can't wait to see the finished model. It looks great already.

  • That is one heck of a layout! Great job!

  • Brilliant layout; if i may ask and if you know, how big is the layout? (In feet)

  • is it based on the thomas train serious in any way?

  • Could you Rephrase that?

  • Is the layout based on Thomas the Tank Engine in any way?

  • Nope! Just a layout we came up with using the space we has availible.

  • is this in bristol? sorry its a random question but just wondering

  • Not in Bristol, But in Sennen Cove Cornwall (Hence Sennen Basement Railway). Its my grandfather's railway. I just live in Bristol. :)

  • COOOOOOL

  • awesome music!

  • absolutely love it to death. Tell your grandpa his model railroad is one of the finest of its type I've ever seen!! =D

  • in the uk it is railway

  • thats cool

  • kwl

  • wow thats good

  • its nice to know there are people who value the hard work and creativity that comes from a steam engine.

  • ohhh i didnt know it was youu hehe ;)

  • ahhh thank you!Fast response! how long is just one aswell hehe sorry for the questionaire! because on websites it says that it is 1372mm but i heard it was 1 metre???? :-S im really confused

    thanks

    dan

  • Id just go by the 1372mm statment. That one meter claim I made was an off-of-me head guesstimate. Nothing serious ;)

  • hey when u unpack the grand suspension bridge, does all like the wire things on the bridge come all together or do they come together and you just clip them on?

    thanks,

    dan

  • It comes in one piece and is clip-on but is very fragile so be careful! Ours is pretty much torn up badly.

  • This layout is great. Really lovely and some of the camera angles you used in those shots were amazing. I want a layout like this when I can afford it!! Great stuff

  • hey got space problims get a shed i am and i am putting my train layout in it

  • Nice! I wish I had access to British-style accesories for my Thomas trains here in America. Do you know if Hornby ships to the U.S.?

  • They may do... They do state that they have a US distribution. Look it up on the stockists website on the Hornby website.

  • Wow, what a layout. i am certainly impressed i am saving up for a small round track and a little £30 locomotive called smokey joe. i like the foot bridges at the train station!

  • Thanks! :)

  • exellent video!!!

  • i spamed that comment because i hate that v10m and not because idont like the video i find the layout wow i am lost for words

  • stunning, truly stunning

  • i was wondering how much distance do you have between each station

  • Awesome layout, your Grandad's hard work for all those years has certainly payed off.

I'd give this layout five stars, you Grandad has done a great job.

  • nice layout il love trains alot u have spend alot on this i dont were u get the money

  • I did say that this layout had been built over a number of years. And we had a few locos before we went ahead and made the layout. A lot of the trains are also second hand too.

  • give my that music

  • can i have that music plz

  • the music is from thomas the tankengine the episode this exact music is from is "better late than never"

  • The actual name of the music is called "The Repairs Theme".

  • in 0:20 where did u get the bridge as im hoping to create summat similar to that but cant find any decent bridges

  • I dont know where I got them exactly, Although Im pretty sure that they are Hornby elevated track kits.

  • Correction. Its actually "Trackside wall sets". product code R660. Look it up on the hornby website.

  • Thanks for the help mate

  • 0:15-0-27 looks like the south devon mainline

    Your railway is excellent,great video

  • brilliant set so wish i had the cash to make mind bigger

  • nice layout :D

  • wicked video, good music;; 5/5 well done

  • what did you/your grandad use to make the hills and stuff?

  • Ive already told people this but meh. Its styrofoam.

  • ok thanks, ill have to get summa that

  • beautiful

  • and its a beuitful layout

  • its based on the GWR railway am i correct

  • Actually, its not based on anything at all. We just made a layout we liked and put on whaterver locos we wanted! Theres all sorts in there. GWR, LMS, some thomas even an american loco.

  • its really cool anyway

  • heyy umm you seem to know alot about hornbys..

umm well im getin a DCC elite system for xmas and i was jus wonderin if i an run any train want on there using the digital thing?

    well write back soon

    thanksss jack :)

  • Sorry Dude, I now virtually nothing about the Hornby digital system. Sorry! All I can tell you is that only certain engines can run on Digital. And trains that cant needs a special decoder chip (Which doesnt work with the much older locos). Hope this helps. Id just ask Hornby.

  • Alrite thankyou very much for the help :)

  • 5/5 stars.great music too

  • Excellent, wonderful layout!

  • thats the best layout iv ever seen in my life

  • thank you

  • i've just go ta new hornby 00 guage train set.

i was wondering, how do you make the tunnel that goes through the hill? how do you make the hill?

and finally, what do you use to make the rock edges, polestyrene?

  • Firstly, the actual hillside shape is a large piece of styrofoam with a hollowed out curve underneath it to allow the two track sections to pass through it. The piece of styrofoam was then carved to give it its shape. The rocky edge of the hill has is very simple to make. We basically painted a load of cat litter green and then scattered/glued it onto the styrofoam hillscape to give it the effect it has. Hope this has helped!

  • this layout has a nice atmosthpere about it that most layouts dont have and i wish a had the room to make any sort off layout u used superquick models in ur layout
