  • I know my grandfather made that song, have the documents to prove it

  • Marty Ross is just amazing. The tv show sucked, but these guys ROCKED!!

  • I wish their music was available on iTunes

  • Heard many versions of this song and all of the great...!!

  • This was my favorite song of theirs. Had no idea Tom Cochrane covered it.

  • These fags look like they would rather be singing about the man inside the boy

  • One of my faves. Never saw the vid until Dino posted it here. Thanks, man!

  • wtf? who are these fags?

  • Ah, brings back such memories of those days. It was such a short lived show. You could tell the obvious of the 1s who could play and who didn't. But hey, The Monkees started off like that as well until they actually became a real band. It's too bad the New Monkees didn't try for that same route. They could've actually gotten somewhere. My favorite episode is when Dino switched places with their pet dog and the television with lips told US to say "kibbles and bits" to reset the balance.

  • This is a great song, but the people performing it here are a bunch of homos.

  • This isn't a horrible version although I do prefer Tom Cochrane's version. I don't remember the New Monkeys at all though!

  • I am a big fan of these guys. Of course it was a tv show, there's a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff.

  • Boy Inside The Man

  • I could listen to this song endlessly. It was sone of the reasons that I went against my die hard orginal monkees devotees (My siblings) and bout the cassette.

I was able to convince them, that no matter what the circumstances, these guys had talent.

My sister has a major New Monkees fan!

    Thanks guys!

    Much appreciated!

  • The New Monkees are cool!

  • wow, i never saw this version. Awesome.

  • I'm a Tom Cochrane fan and I like this version.

  • This is GOOD. Regardless. I was young and full of piss and vinegar when the original came out, via Tom Cochran. This is just as good. I will always love you, Marilyn...

  • OKay ! I liked it !

  • Sure, let us know how to get them.

  • Sure.

  • Hey All-

This video was shot as we layed down the tracks for BOY INSIDE THE MAN, great day---we were told Bing Crosby had done most of his stuff there in the 40's and his Ghost (yea that's right--was active)--two power outages later--we commenced!

Well-- we had a great time recording it, playing it, hearing it on the radio---so the kanuck and his campfire version is pretty frickin' funny to us.

I'm digging all of the babble and rumble..

    Signed-

Jared "yes- I was a NEW Monkee" Chandler

  • Is that true? did you hear the ramdom warblings of "White Christmas" howling down the hallways of the studio? Boo!

  • I've always liked this version better, and I heard the original first, 'way back when'. You guys did a bang-up job. Such an amazing sound. As a musician, I really liked this music. And it holds up over time.

  • Awesome stuff. I've posted elsewhere. I thought the show, concept, everything was great, except the tie to Monkees. They're a hard act to follow. We watched eagerly as NM rose, and fell. The music survives though. Nice.

  • Holy crap! Dino and Marty just signed my CD!!

  • these guys sing this song better then Tom cochrane

  • I am sorry but this song does not sound it was done in one take. That is impossible.

But the song is good though regardless

  • Of course it wasn't one take. Read the drummer's lips at 2:16. He actually messes up all over the place!!

  • Not the video. The song

  • @decay1966 He/She( Wild andCrazy2007) was talking about the vocal. And I did two takes and they used the first one completely.

  • @decay1966 lol!

  • @decay1966 The lead vocal of Marty's was what was done in one take in the studio. Of course for the video everyone is just lip syncing.

  • @WildAndCrazy2007 LOL it is just a video shoot of them in the studio they did play on this track and ive watched this show it was great they needed better writers the music is AWSOME !!!!!! those who dis this music would not like many other bands that sound like it and have no musical taste LMAO

  • Anybody have the video for "Turn It Up"?

  • You look like the guy who sticks his balls between his legs in The Silence of the Lambs.

  • I've met that guy. I placed the lotion back in the basket and did what I was told.

  • Shit! Now that I've listened to it again.... you guys are right!!....Wow!!... what a suck ass voice.!! But now that I nearly drank myself to death and did some drugs and smoked like a fiend for 30 years I'll sound more like Tom ! On the high note " maaaan" I always thought someone hit Tom on the hand palm side down with a hammer! I'm gettin pretty close! Headin to Ace Hardware.

  • Oh, Marty. For all your amazing "success", you'd think you'd have learned to show a little grace in the face of criticism, instead of bashing the artist you're covering?

Yeah, you're right, it's Tom Cochrane's fault that your nasal caterwaul sounds like somebody sadistically abusing a car horn.

  • My Lord.... have you no sense of humour? Blame Canada!

  • First of all, I didn't bash the artist...I'm sure Tom would laugh at that comment because it was not meant to the person....On the other hand I think I sound more like the high pitched LUXURY Maserati car horn out of the two it has..to be precise!BTW this all happened in 2 hours on one day more than 20 years ago...I'm disturbed that it has had such an effect on you Marquis Mark 76 or is it me you think you affected...NAW... this is fun..people that know me know this is all a joke!.

  • Oh, okay, so we're agreed: the New Monkees are a joke!

    Now it all makes sense!

  • Yes! It was billed as a comedy!

  • I'm a huge Tom Cochrane fan, and I actually don't mind this version.

  • actually I just searched the song "Boy inside the man" and this video showed up. I had never even heard of the New Monkeys before I saw this video...believe me, I did not seek out New Monkeys videos to quench my bad 80's band thirst.

  • Same thing with me, type in "Boy Inside the Man" and this travesty is the first thing that comes up.

  • Davy Jones would be turning in his grave if he were to see this, and was dead.

  • I find it interesting that when the haters show up, they think they're tearing down these guys. But who did the search for the New Monkees to show up here in the first place? That's right, the haters! Kinda sad to seek out videos on YT just to post derogatory remarks. Don't like 'em? Don't watch! Simple.

  • uhhm,..ok,...I'm not sure who you think you're in contact with, BUT good luck with your career. By the way,... instead of fighting for Tom Cochran,... why don't you go out and make your country proud by doing a NILS tribute. At least they kicked ass!

  • Okay, so I'm confused...are you guys actually members of the illustrious New Monkees, or are you pretending, or are you the only living surviving members of a certainly defunct fan club?

In any case, the only anger I see is popegeorgeringo's vitriolic messages to me / comments on my videos, explaining how bad a singer I am!

Okay, fine! I'm a terrible singer! Nobody's denying that! But it doesn't change the fact that Marty Ross's voice is unequivocally, categorically awful for this song!

  • @GiantRobot17 Ahhhh To be stinky AND get paid!!!

  • Wow, let's see if we can get all four New Monkees to come on here and defend their honour!

Because apparently, you need to be talented to voice an opinion all of a sudden! Someone really needs to let the masses know!

The New Monkees: Protesting free speech since 1987! (Really? That long ago?)

  • Don't get mad. I was just voicing my opinion. It's not that you can't or shouldn't voice your opinion,... but keep in mind that while you're doing it,...you could get the same back, that's all.

  • No one's getting mad!

Just seems like you're saying that if you don't have any musical talent you "have no right to be judging others"! Which is false.

And, to be honest, I'm not going to be very concerned if I get "the same back" from some semi-celebrities who take criticism like five-year-olds being made fun of because of their favourite cartoon.

It's got a lot of comedy value, though!

  • **This is MarquisMark, by the way.**

  • come on,....don't lie. You know you're angry.

  • When I feel the urge to take a giant crap, I feel pain, aprehension and uncertainty about the future. When I finish, I feel relieved and glad that the ordeal is over, much like when this video ends.

  • Yeah,... I felt the same way trying to watch you and your 'band' trying to play the Beasties. Was that you 'singing'? Because if it was,.. you really have no right to be judging others.

  • I agree with MarquisMark76....this guy's voice sounds comical singing this song and makes me want to take a giant crap.

  • When I take a giant crap, I always feel relieved and happy afterwards,... so you like his voice, eh?

  • That's weird.... I think he got nominated in Japan for this song......under the Comical Vocal Performance( in a giant crap) category.....I think Hasselhoff won that year...It was his breakthrough year.Never as big in Japan as Germany...but then again Germany didn't have this category...Personally, I believe the great work that the NEW Monkees have done over the years by donating their time and money to save happy children from the jaws of the super wealthy should come to light.Downturned Thumbs?

  • Marty does a nice job with the vocal. The band does a fine job too. The New Monkees were funny and talented. The problem was that they got hammered by a press and fan base of the original Monkees who were pissed that new kids were on the block. In the rear view of time, the songs are fine, their CD good and their humor a-ok. The guys should be proud of their work on this project.

  • This version of this song is absolutely horrendous. I can't take the lead singer seriously. Musically it's not dramatically different than the original, but vocally? No. Just not good at all.

Give me the Symphony Sessions Red Rider version, please.

  • I agree....even I could do better....I'll go one further and say that the singer( does anybody know his name?)should seek out his entire family and have them destroyed. I would not have found out about this travesty if it wasn't for my new Lord and Master....MarquisMark76 !! Praise thee!!!

  • i was on this show...check out hobo dino.

    great song.

Big love goes out to all my peeps from back in our day. Marty, Larry, Jared...Miss ya fella's.

love, the 5th invisible NEWMONKEE...along with Mr. Jamie Muntner that is...Stiv

  • No disrespect to Tom Cochrane as obviously he's the genius behind the writing of this tune and many other great tunes though I think Marty Ross's vocal and The New Monkees version of this tune is far better compared to Cochrane's, in my opinion of course... Also, Jared plays off his guitar playing quite well in this one. I'm curious to know if he had made the effort to actually learn to play and if not, why did they not seek out "4" guys that were all musicians vs. just "3?"

  • I had the biggest crush on Dino...

  • OH MY GAWD!!! I was a teenager when this came out and I was so in love with Larry. I even had the cassette tape of this. I loved it so much. I played it out until it was stolen out of my car when I was 21 years old. Thank you so much for posing these. I love them so much.

  • I was only 7 when this song was recorded but WOW!!!

  • i was 17.

    WoW!

  • I know I'm slow, I just realized that Larry is playing bass in this video...

  • I think he plays bass as well as lead guitar..

  • No worries, I just realized that myself yesterday! I must admit, it's pretty hot!

  • I heard both this version and Tom Cochrane's version. I like this version only because the music is not overpowering....And also doing a song in one take is amazing as well

  • dudes, this vids the shiznit aint it?

  • Wonderful!!!!

  • Go to "Martymusic" in YahooGroups and find some free downloads from Marty Ross...Uh.... that would be me!

  • One of, if not, my favorite songs from the LP. People who like this should also check out the New Monkees group on yahoo.

  • A question for anybody out there? What was the name of the new monkees song to the which were " what i want you ain't got what i want you can't give me"?

  • What I Want

  • the song is called "What I Want"

  • dannyssj (8 months ago) wrote: A question for anybody out there? What was the name of the new monkees song to the which were " what i want you ain't got what i want you can't give me"?

    - That one is called "What I Want" - and there are 2 videos of this song uploaded on YT: one is the New Monkees in a pool room and the other is their lyp-synching it on Solid Gold.

  • His voice sounds pretty good to me.

  • I was a big New Monkees fan and Marty was my fave. My best friend and I used to call each other Dino and Marty. Love this. I still have my audio tape of their album. Thanks!

  • Not bad. Like some of the instrumentation more. This guy is technically probably a better singer than Tom Cochrane, but he isn't as passionate about it as Tom Cochrane and when he hits the high note it sounds kind of ridiculous! Still good though!

  • I agree about the passion....though in Martys defense he sang this in ONE take after a 15 hour work day.The producer Steve Barri thought he nailed it and told him to go home....this was in an interview done in the Milwaukee Journal with Marty in 1990. All in all the performance is pretty remarkable given all things considered.

  • Awesome video, I wish these guys would had got rid of the Monkees thing and just made CD's under another name because their music was Excellent, I still listen to this CD all the time.

  • Thank you for posting this. It's the only song I remembered from the show. I thought I would never hear this song again, and now that I have, I think I was better off not hearing it. But it does take me back. Thank you

  • You know, I am a HUGE fan of the original Monkees. AS for the New Monkees, I think that was, quite possibly THE WORST TV SHOW EVER (what was with those Rocky Horror Show ripoff lips anyway)!? But this song isn't bad...and looking at that hair is a HOOT. Ah, I miss the 80s.

  • pleasant surprise. I had a few of their shows on aging VHS tapes. So to decay1966 who took the time to upload all these New Monkees clips, thanks!

  • Hiya folks, Marty Ross here...This clip is pretty good! If you look closely..towards the end of the video.....you can see my 15th minute of fame go by!

  • I actually spit out my drink when I read your comment. That was pretty funny. Actually, I like this version of the song. Good sense of humor, Marty.

  • Excellent cover of Tom Cochrane's song, the original can be found on the 'Tom Cochrane and Red Rider' cd. I wasn't a big fan of the New Monkees at the time, being a fan of the original Monkees, but I thought some of the songs from their only album were pretty well done. If the New Monkees had been called something else, they might have been more successful.

  • You and I were probably the only two people on Earth who knew about these guys. I'm so glad you put these up! I haven't seen any footage of these boys since 1987...I think. Still rock to the CD though!

  • Actually, there's a yahoo group called newmonkees. You should check it out :)

  • Hmmmm... Well, I can see why The New Monkees weren't around that long. Not THAT bad, though.

  • very good song , can't wait to see more vid clips...

  • Fantastic! Thanks for digging this stuff up! And keep it coming!!

  • One of the best (of many great) songs from the series and LP!
