  • A week later the Dead played Ithaca, NY at a little show from 5/8/77 at Barton Hall. These were one more Saturday night shows, which to those who know meant a real good time, a bit more intense than the usual incredible experience. Monday nights were always killer, too. Thanks for posting, as always. I really appreciate it. "Gotta make it somehow, on the dreams, you still believe!"

  • What about the Felt Forum - Madison Square Garden, December 5, 1971 version...?! :-)

  • @kewlbreez77 - that's nice too, i'm listening now for the first time.

  • I will have to listen to Buffalo but this one was quite impressive :)

  • i love that melody near the end.. awesome

  • Beautiful.

  • Hey now, High!

  • @HairPeaceNow - Yeah!

  • Good version but the Buffalo is IMHO the all-time best of this tune. Jerry's solo in it is of such wrenching emotional complexity to leave the listener absolutely awestruck.

Listening to the Buffalo version has for me always been almost an epiphanal experience. It really is THAT intense!

  • @09jackstraw - i uploaded that as well, its linked here as a video response.... I agree that one's pretty sublime....

  • @09jackstraw - Yes, 5-9-1977 Buffalo is unreal for this as well as the Music Never Stopped. Both of these are my favorite verisons.

  • @elementacupuncture Yes the TMNS from this show is also stellar. Have you heard the version from DP 18 2/5/78 Dane Cty. Coliseum? Oh my! The outro jam is some of Jerry's finest jamming anywhere as he leads the band higher and higher. This is a perfect example of Jerry truly being the musical sun all the rest orbited around. DP 18 is IMHO one of the best. It also has the UNIDome show from the next night with the outstanding "Truckin" complete with Mickey's police whistle opening--awesome!

  • @elementacupuncture And the Scarlet>Fire from Cedar Falls 2/5/78 also stands as among the best ever played. I grew up in Northern Iowa and all everyone could talk about after this show (I sadly was too young to attend) was the Scarlet>Fire. Among SO many awesome versions, it really is superlative.

  • @09jackstraw Amen! Probably the closest thing to a perfect solo. It completely destroys all other versions. My second favorite is Richmond 85, for its magically disintegrating outro.

  • Love this version. I think it is from the Palladium show (5/1/77).

  • @beauryandrew - you're right! I have both here. The Buffalo version is slower though. I'll change the date and info. Thank you!!

  • Fits the way i feel today to a T....

    thank you

  • @WEIR4EVER - always a pleasure.

  • nice!

  • @mandobanjoguitar - thank you!
