Wang Liqin have almost like a choreographed forehand drive. His momentum is so extraordinary on the CLOCK and impossible to twithstand, even for the great Samsonov
actually there are better examples......Samsanov isn't the ultimate striker, but he's balanced in attack and defense. Wang Liqin isn't the best comparison.
@J0kerofHearts No Samsonov wouldn't let him warm up with it again. Typically what's usually done is you do a few counter drives and backhands to get the racket warmed up. Samsonov has the right to decline this step, but it's usually frowned upon. Samsonov has been really stupid lately. He's become rather cheap when playing. I think he realizes he's getting old and only wants to win. He doesn't care about pleasing the crowd or having fun anymore. He just wants to retire with some cash.
@LookB3hindU The reason he didn't let him warm up was because he felt that Wang Liqin hit the ball twice in an earlier point and then wouldn't admit to it. Class went out the window at that point.
@EdMajinLee199999 Class has eluded Samsonov for years now. There's no way to tell if the ball was actually hit twice by Wang, but it's a fact that he damaged his paddle. To trade something that is based in opinion versus something that his based in fact is just retarded.
If he's gonna cry about a mishit that may or may not have happened he shouldn't be playing this game. If he's not going to show character in this game I hate to have him as role model in this sport.
@LookB3hindU It wasn't legal at the time. I don't think Wang Liqin would cheat, but from what I see in many games, the Chinese players have a much different mentality when playing players from other countries rather than other Chinese players. There's no telling what happened here, which is why I am not going to judge either player.
@bartek4443 Um what are you referring to? As for mentality every country has that mentality. If you were competing for the U.S. wouldn't you feel an obligation to keep the match as legit as possible? Because win or lose the U.S. wins so it's just a matter of who's the better player.
@cooiyoung It sure is, and by quite a margin at that. Wang lost his dominance because he lost half a step of speed and his backhand is rather poor (in relative terms) - something that some more two-winged players learned to exploit. When playing at his absolute peak though (such as in Kuwait and Qatar earlier this year), I'd still say that Wang is the best. It doesn't happen nearly as often as it used to, though.
@remodrummer99 Its a "flip" stroke he uses but because there was some backspin on the ball he had to open his racket a little bit. This has alot of advantages. The ball returns to wang liqin with a little backspin so he cant really kill it with a power loop if you use a topspin flip, wang can kill it with a power loop more easily. Another advantage is that the ball stays lower when it bounces, a disadvantage is that its slower than a normal flip but speed is not always better in short play.
@7777Willy samsonov didnt let wang liqin hit some balls with the new racket because wang liqin didnt admit to having hit twice on the ball in a point. that was a payback...
when i saw this vid i don't like Samsonov when WLQ has to change his racket he wants to practise one point, but Samsonov didn 't want! that wasn' t sportive!!
two players roughly the same age and height, yet one the difference in speed is so big. Wang Liqin reacts and moves so much faster than anyone his size
@bartek4443 yeah he is pretty skinny, but if you watch some of his other videos where he is training, he is actually really well defined. His torso looks almost like Bruce Lee's. It is pretty impressive. He has kept himself at tip top shape for the past decade.

wang liqin played really well, considering he lost to maze earlier on. : D
TTHurricane 1 year ago
@bigduven i dont mean the point where WLQs racket was damaged!!
i mean when wang changes it he wants to PRACTISE one point for his feeling
for example when a ball is damaged the do this. but samsonov didn' t want because he thought we would have an advantage when he doesn 't do.
He must not but when he did it would be more sportive. You know what i mean?

7777Willy 1 year ago
@ruipedro25 yes, i think so too
jaime2658780 1 year ago
@ruipedro25 not only that. it's a tactical advantage to not let your opponent get used to a new paddle, especially if you have the option to decline

@7777Willy no i don`t think so, it happens one time in a million that a racket breaks
and this racket isn`t really damaged but he changes it for his perfect game, so this point is correct played and nearly no-one would repeat it

Why is Samsonov so reluctant to grant WLQ a chance to get used to the new racket? I think WLQ just changed to a racket with even more tuned rubbers.
