This sure describes how I have high hopes that someday Roger, Gilmour and the rest of the band get back together to save the world from nowadays music.
Reminds me of halcyon days in Cambridge & Hertfordshire way back in the late 60's (when I was in my early teens). First time I saw PF was in '67 at Rhodes Centre in Bishop's Stortford with Syd Barrett. They started the set with Astronomy Domine. We were transported to another world...
The song and video are brilliant. I was born in Cambridge but haven't lived there for over 30 years. Everytime I hear this it takes me right back to my childhood.
That is an example of a symbiotic relation between the genius in the music and the finest taste of the video footage.I mean this video is huge...I definitely adore it.
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition There's a hunger still unsatisfied Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon Though down this road we've been so many times The grass was greener The light was brighter The taste was sweeter The nights of wonder With friends surrounded The dawn mist glowing The water flowing The endless river Forever and ever

Schrecklich das der gesamte Presserummel und die unbewiesenen Anklagen ihn so fertiggemacht habenbr/We will never forget? you, Michaelbr/br/R.I,P from the Black Forest
de ke era muy joven , un niño habia escuchado pink floyd me gusto mucho el estilo ke tiene la banda y aun ahora no me aburro de escuchar y algunas veces en las nubes joajoa una wena experiencia.
english rock groups have alway's excelled in this progressive story telling style of music . from the early day's of yes to genesis . heavy rock like led zeppelin . and of course pink floyd . as perfectly excemplified in this amazing piece of work high hopes !
Pink Floyd is the most eccentric and experimental multi-platinum band of the album rock era, creating exceptional cinematic sound sculptures Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and the bands popular apex and conceptual death knell, The Wall.
sooo much symbolism in this video. First dont forget the separation of the lyric part (him standing at the car "gazing at the past", and the solo where he frees the balls (ideas, dreams, visions) that he kept locked "in his car" (himself) for oh so long. Once he does, the ideas that children used to toy with and exchanged them, spread into the world, and he himself becomes free like the wind. The song is about not to waste your life and hang on the child in you. A MASTERPIECE of music
Very nice interpretation of the song, very accurate, if you ever read "Another Brick In the Wall" it talks about how the song is a retelling of Gillmour's childhood and the way in which innocence is lost when you reach adulthood.
I do truly agree with you ... This song is a MASTERPIECE. The band itself is questionably one of the most greatest and talented bands of all time.
I think it also is in fact a song in the similar vein to "shine on you crazy diamond" albeit in a much more melancholy tone . It strikes me that the final frames with a bust of Syd indicate this has more than a little to do with him as well .
Couldnt be more clear... As Scubaguy661 points out, this song for those over 35 or 40. Younger ones can also understand or estimate at least what its telling about but this is a matter of empathy.
Obviously some didn't get it... I meant that this song is also about becoming middle-aged and looking back at days of youth gone by and at lost hopes and dreams. Fourty year old people can particularly relate to it.
No wonder you don't give me credit for intelligence as it seems you don't even know what the word means. Keep on pouring bad language, it's all you seem to be good at...
So, does that mean your mother gets it twice? She's still pretty snug for her age, by the way. I won't give you credit for intelligence, bui I'll give you credit for the bitch that pinched you out. I'll think higher of you when you move out of her basement.
It would be kind of weird if I started crying every time my cell rings ;) plus I would then relate this song to my job, which would make it the sound of utter Misery... and I wouldn't want that to happen ;)
god i love this song. but im so sick of trying to get it as a ringtone. all the places on the net sounded horrible. finally found it at complimentarysongs. com
This is one of 5-6 masterpieces that makes me think of how beautiful, creative a man can be. Enjoying it everytime I can and yet "there's a hunger still unsatisfied" :)
I cant really work out what this song is about and what the music video is trying to explain. Absolute awesome song, pink floyd will never be forgotten, RIP Richard
It's an old man's song about looking back & realizing that life never truly fulfills our expectations, that it always lags behind our "high hopes".
It's in a sense the ultimate punchline: The perfect guitar player of a perfect rock band makes a perfect song & a perfect video about the imperfection of everything...
...and it is also a summary of their personal history, as a band (from the imaginary times with Syd Barrett, and after his "loss", thru the succesful Roger Waters era, right to the final David Gilmour period (after the Final Cut))...
The imagery is simply stunning: You could capture almost every second of the video & it would perfectly fit any exhibition. Truly a piece of art that makes you understand why the guy behind the camera ist called "director of photography".
Similarily: perfect music, perfect lyrics. Though I don't like the fact, I somehow understand that Pink Floyd never recorded another song after this one...

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before times took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
olcay672000 2 years ago 3
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
When friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some sleeping tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
