  • Thank you SO much bro. I could not figure out that those "feed lips" were there for the longest time and was unable to put my forend back on. I've never seen a stainless bolt on an 870 before. Looks nice. Knoxx Blackhawk makes a great pistol grip stock. They have a $65 adjustable one and a $150 one that is exactly the same, but absorbs recoil through springs. Speedfeed looks just like yours, but has a shell storage compartment. Didn't read your comments, so I don't know if you already got advice

  • If my follower wont slide out, does that mean i need to clean the mag tube?

  • Hope you dont go hunting with that thing without a plug in

  • @snarejaguar1 I was wondering about his plug as well.

  • But I have one ? How do you pull the magazine off ...my shot gun broke right at the edge were the shells go in

  • hey great video. best ive seen of this subject. the part 1 and 2 of this were A LOT of help. keep em coming!!

  • I say get a Mako Group forearm and stock, that's what I have on mine. Love it.

  • Speedfeed makes the best 870 tactical stocks. they are now part of the Safariland Corp. The worlds best tactical equipment.

  • Pistol grip pump on my lap at all times.

  • @elal757 a great stock that you may want to try is the MESA Tactical Urbino butt stock for the 870.

  • Thanks for the video! I found it useful and easy to follow along with

  • Try ATI or Topco they make great shotgun stocks.

  • Thanks for the Video!!! and I really Like my Orange follower!! my gun came stock with it though..and Mine has the pus and twist thing where the MAG spring is

  • Do you not like the Hogue Tamer grip?

  • SPECOPS STOCK with knoxx recoil suppression technology by Blackhawk, with pistol grip Is one of the best out there. I paid a $120.00 for mine

  • i had heard of a collapsable stock(i forget the maker of it) its similar to the collapsable stock that is made by ATI except it absorbes around 75% of the recoil. retail is around $150 bucks i think. its on my shopping list :/

  • buy a wood stock there realy nice and arent cheap and shitty like you described your stock

  • I have the OEM Remington butt stock in synthetic black plastic if you are interested, basically in brand New condition. I'm very happy with my ATI parts. Fits tight looks great.

  • Check out Mesa Tactical LEO or Low-Tube stocks. You can put a buffer tube on them, as well. I plan to get a Low-Tube adapter and buffer tube, then put a Magpul CTR on it.

  • Can you change the tube magazine?

  • @theyamaha700 I agree with you, it's just a general safety rule.

Even if I know a firearm isn't loaded, I just do a quick check every time I pick it up.

It's true that most tools aren't dangerous by themselves, but complacency kills.

  • I am ordering the Remington shurshot camo synthetic stock for mine! ($68.00)

  • thanks my bolt got stuck in the recever and i didnt no how to get it out thanks for the video

  • Does the mag tube come off

  • You did a very nice job on this informative video. Thanks!!!!

  • blackhawk special ops with knoxx recoil suppression technology . midway usa on sale 99.99

  • Just an FYI, the newer model 870's all come stock with a bright orange follower so you can tell the tube is unloaded. At least, my 870 express did.

  • Thanks for the video..... I put on a pistol grip forend in about 4 minutes. Without your video I would have been lost.

    Cheers,

  • Have you checked out the BlackHawk Knoxx Specops stock?

  • Quantico arms has several m4 style stocks for the 870

  • i got a 20 gauge 870

  • mine is an older model and comes with a plastic magazine spring retainer.. can't get it out.. help..

  • The BlackHawk buttstock with the recoil pad is the best out there right now. Our Dept. has these on our 870's and I have one on my personal shotgun. price is around $120.00 look it up on their website.

  • @TheLammsu You can get that stock cheaper from different vendors. They run around $110 at Midway.

  • Comment removed

  • A good quality pistol grip stock? Try a Speedfeed IV.

  • guns dont kill ppl bullets do :D

  • if guns n bullets kill people then spoons made rosie o donnell fat

  • @AJKHospy lol

  • guns ARNT dangerous, ignorant people are..

  • @Natedaschoolboy Kinda have to agree with ya there.

  • @Natedaschoolboy Politicians are the dangerous ones.

  • GET THE ATI SHOTFORCE collapsable AR style stock with the Pistol grip. I have it on mine and love it. It as just as good as the standard stock you get on an AR15

  • The Cav Arms AR stock conversion is great, but it's not cheap--$225.

  • i completely disagree with the " warning " at the start, you state that " guns " are dangerous. no, people are dangerous, guns wont kill unless you put them in the hands of a killer. guns are 100% safe if in the right hands.

  • why are you commenting just on the warning? Be glad he actually put a warning,no one wants to be told that they arent safe,so he said "guns" are dangerous, and guns can kill without them being in the hands of a killer. Dont Comment on vids,of how they are presented.

  • i only said that i disagree with the warning, suck it up

  • Just curious..what did you pay?

  • Great video thanks for making this.

  • try looking for a stock and forarm set at cabelas and or the sports mans guide. cool video dude

  • Hogue grip and forarm are better... Ron

  • thanks

  • i got a caa pistol grip collapsible stock i got from my local gun store and it hasnt given me any trouble expecially the way i shoot it.

  • black hawk spec opps adjustable stock.

  • the knox spec ops stock is supposed to be a great sturdy stock for the 870, been doing a lot of research into stocks because im gonna be replacing mine soon for hunting. if you want a good stock that has more of hunting feel for it but still has a good pistol grip type base, the new shur shot is very promising, its very comfortable and incredibly easy to point and shoot. you can get them in camo or straight black, there like 60 - 70 bucks.

  • Ye I have a Knoxx Spec OPS on mine, very very well built and worth every cent.

  • @necro1234yahoo Me too and I think it was worth every penny.

  • thats the best full stock ull find

  • Wow I could not figure out how to pull my slide out for like 20 min! After watching this it took about a minute; it is very much appriciated.

  • how do you take apart the bolt

  • how do you take off the stock? tanks

  • speedfeed IVs is an outstanding fixed pistol grip stock that fits perfectly on the remington 870. Costs appx 75 dollars.

  • get the ATI top folding stock, it has 5 shotshell holes drilled in to it and you can shoot it as a pistol grip too

  • Thank you for showing the field strip on the 870. This is one weapon that I don't shoot as often as others I have, so your video provides a good refresher for me. Thanks again!

  • Before you do anything to your gun you gotta PROVE your gun safe...

Point the firearms in a safe direction

    Remove all cartridges

    Observe the Chamber

    Verify the feeding path

    Examine the bore

do that before u even do anything thing to you gun

  • A gun is never "safe", even if it's unloaded, it's still loaded.

Always treat it like it is loaded.

  • @KevinAbbeyTech

Guns are safe...people are not "safe" , that gun will not shoot without a person.

  • @KevinAbbeyTech

    True words.

  • @KevinAbbeyTech But I have a Break action shotgun and I always double-check to make sure that it's unloaded. Not sayin im gonna point at someone but, When my guns safe it really is safe. I think Break actions are the safest type of action there is.

  • a fellow canadian i take it?

  • fuck canada. Its the STATES BITCHES!!!!

  • just a word of advice, it's not a good idea to pull the trigger unless the bolt is installed - you run the risk of severely screwing up your trigger assembly!

  • 2 parts to the disassemble a shotgun... Nuff said, how many of these videos get out there?

  • you should get a remington sure shot stock

  • Remington has a great stock and forearm out now called the Shurshot. i just ordered mine recently from Cabelas. i love it and it runs about $70. Do you live in VA?

  • Blackhawk makes a grip as well as Choate

  • Who makes the buttstock? I am looking for a pistol grip buttstock for mine and find it difficult to find one that fits good. This one looks like it's a perfect fit.

  • That stock is made by "advanced technology incorporated." Generally their products are low quality SHIT. This was a project gun for a long time and in a rush to complete it i went out and bought the cheapest thing i could find. Its still slated to be replaced.

  • you might want to buy a stock that I think comes from remington itself, I think its called a shurshot. I dont know if you like thumbhole stocks, but it fits really well into your hand, and is very comfy in your shoulder

  • very true. its a great stock. but dude, didnt u read my post before yours? lol i just said all that...

  • oh, sorry, I didnt see that lol

  • lol... its cool

  • yeah, I think they might be making that stock for the semiautos too(1100's, 11-87's), I'm not positive but it would be really cool

  • yea they do. Cabelas has them the cheapest ive found. They only have the 1100/1187 shurhot in black though on thier site.

  • @amoledor search on google

  • @amoledor I Highly recommend the Remington Surshot stock, I put it on my tactical and it is great, It is a mix between a pistol grip and a thumbhole stock and it greatly reduces the recoil. I picked it up for 70 bucks.

  • Thank you for your time, it is much appreciated. This will be the first time I finally get it completely cleaned, which is long overdue. & Thanks for asking for the stock recommendation and getting people talking about it, looks like Knoxx is the way to go.

  • stop fighting on youtube xD

nom nom nom!!!!! hehekekeke I feel like cybring! 5Y

  • now thats gun-care I would never allow any democrat to universalize

  • This video was by far the best example I have ever seen, it was also the first time I stripped, gave a proper cleaning then assembled my 870.

Like most, I read over the manual one Remington's website then searched "you tube", as some of use are visual learners.

    Great step by step guide!!!

    Play safe!

  • i cant even get my magazine cap off, its on ridiculously tight

  • Check out one of the new Knoxx stocks with the recoil reduction, just got mine in and it's amazing. Only 100 bucks too.

  • Thanks for the video. I just took my 870 apart for the first time and would have been lost without it.

  • ...and remember to slide the forend halfway to the front after cocking the hammer, when you want to remove or install the barrel. If the forend is fully bakward, you will have trouble to take out or seat the barrel if you install. That`s because of the shape of the 870 forend, it can jam itself to the thick chamber part of the rear barrel. Nag..nag..I know, but I must say it:)

  • You don`t need to remove the stock when you take out the trigger group on a Remington 870. Always let the hammer be cocked whenever you are removing or installing the trigger group, because if the hammer is down, the bolt release button assembly system will be pushed up against the underside of the breechbolt and cause possible jamming of the trigger group assembly pins. Avoid to smack the hammer down if the barrel is disassembled. Always keep the hammer cocked with the safety on.

  • Get the Spec ops recoil reducing stock, your shoulder will love it!

  • Wow, I have a remington 870 12 gauge, and have never seen that killer dissambled before.

    This was awesome

  • you are the first person ive watch thats hasnt wasted my time

    thank you

  • Nice 870! What length is the barrel on that shotgun? Thanks for the informational vid. -Scott

  • Like a guy below me said.

Go for the Speedfeed IV stock.

It costs about $80 at Cabelas and is the absolute best synthetic stock and forend set that you can buy.

  • Neat video, one question: what is a "flat head screwdriver"? Is that a local term for a slotted screwdriver by chance or is it made specially to fit flat head screws?

  • I agree with niteyez, knoxx stocks are the way to go. For the money they do the most. You can also look into Mesa Tactical. They also have a recoil reducing stock. The design is different though, Knoxx; the recoil being buffered by a series of springs. Mesa Tactical: recoil being buffered by Enidine hydraulic piston. Check them out>

  • Anyhow I want to get a reflex sight for my 870, any suggestions

  • doesnt that stock ruin the good balance?

  • That "special" tool for the forend is a pair of needle nose pliers. My .02c

  • I tried that and I bent the slide tube. =(

  • I have a Revelation .12. I want to put a new stock on it but i dont know if it will take the Remington 870 parts. Both guns are made in the U.S. and they look almost exactly alike. Is it possable to switch them?

  • helped. thanx

  • You can get a Knoxx Folding stock from Remington or a gun shop can order you one for about a $100 bucks. I have one on my 870 and they are reputed to reduce recoil by up to 50%. I really like it, the only issue is that it makes the back end of the gun quite wide and there aren't many cases that will fit it once it is installed.

  • hey ths is a good video it really helped me

  • you say at the start that guns are dangerous but there not people are!

  • usefull video...thanks for the tips

  • another little FYI is that the new 870 fore-end slides right out without depressing those feed lips

  • Where do I find upgrades for the 870? Looking for tactical stuff.

  • Hell, just about anywhere. gun show, internet, even a lot of gun shops. Avoid ATI (advanced technology) as their products are inferior SHIT (AKA the stock on this gun)

  • i have the same stock on my maverick 88 and i have had zero problems.what was your bad experience?

  • Hey bro, if you're looking for a good pistol grip stock (with a non-shitty forend to match) go for the SpeedFeed Mk. IV. Google SpeedFeed, their site will give you all the info you need. Good luck, and nice gun.

  • @elal757

You hate ATI? May I ask how?

  • I have a Choate stock on my 870. Mine's not as easy to take apart though, I have the extended magazine that holds 8 shots, also made by choate. And have the side saddle by TacStar.

  • try a choate stock...they're under 80 bucks usually and they are weapon specific so there are no spacers

  • Don't know why you need a screw driver to get the mag spring out? All I have to do is push down on it with my finger, twist it until the grooves line up and it pops right out!

  • i think you have the newer style. the older style (shown here) is just a piece of sheet metal that is held in place by friction.

  • if your serious about the stock you can try cheaperthandirt (dot) com they have about 3 kinds of stocks their under 150 and 100. they have a cool ATI top folding stock. it makes the shotgun look "eeeevviil"

  • thank you, your video helped.

taking the shotgun apart is actually easier than it looks. Only thing that was a nuisance was putting the bolt + bolt carrier with the action bars back into the receiver.

  • Thanks for the input!

Yeah the bolt/carrier/slide takes a bit of patience!

  • yeah could u do a Remington 1100 competition disassembly video cuz i have one but i cant get my action out for some reason

  • Unfortunately, I don't own an 1100 (never really got into auto shotguns) but should I ever pick one up, Youtubers will be the first to see it!

  • Can you show us how to disassemble mod 1100?

  • If u want a good stock go to cheaper than dirt and look for speedfeed 3 its a fairly durable stock btw thanks for the tips

  • wipe it down with some "ole", he uses Rem-OLE!!

  • damn straight.

  • With my 870 to get the magazing spring out all I do is insert a large screwdriver in the end and push down and twist it clockwise a little and then it comes right out.

BTW - Thanks for your great videos!

  • some will, some won't - i use that trick on my benelli.

  • I have a remington 870 and a mossberg 500. the remington is a hell of alot easier to fully dissasemble than the mossberg. I think they are both equal in resaliabitly

  • video helped a lot. but how do you get the pump handle off the slid, i have a new tri rail for-end and cant bet the old one off

  • I got two pistol grip full stock

  • Thanks, Helpful video!

  • Thanx! i really needed this.

  • Nice video man. I take it that you are a fellow Virginian, so respect for that. Anyway, following the great Mossberg 500 Remington 870 debate, I have been regretting my choice of buying a Mossberg from day one. The 870 seems like it is 100 times easier to take it apart. Are all 870s this easy from the factory or did you tweak yours to make takedown a cake walk?

  • Nope, other than the stock, forend, and finish, this thing is all factory. There have been a few changes to the newer ones, but nothing ground breaking.

  • Check out the 80% recoil reduction in a knoxx stock, awesome for the 870!!!!!

  • I have a Speedfeed IV stock on my 870, I also have a nice and grippy Hogue fore-end. You should check them out.

  • Great video!! Really easy to understand. Could you maybe explain how to install the magazine plug? I do better watching videos than reading the instructions. Thanks.

  • You know your guns. good job explaining the process.

  • Thanks for making the vid, helped me out a lot.

  • check out the knoxx stocks

  • just picked one up, gotta love simplicity!

  • Actually took mine apart for the first time. Hadn't disassembled one in over 20 years. This video was a great refresher. Made the job a lot easier!!! Thanks

  • Your firearm has the old carrier - the a new flexi-tab carrier help with feeding shells, The 'feed-lips' are called shell latches. On the bottom rails of the "slide" are timing marks. These drive the shell latches which release new rounds from the magazine. Good video - I like the safety page before the vid. begins.

  • Thanks for the info - I learned "feed lips" and I guess it stuck.

  • Better than the manual! Thanks.

  • hey i just the 870 12 gauge left hand and i love it. mine has rifle sights, and forearm with finger grooves. thanks for this and the second video.

if i find a nice pistolgrip stock ill try to

    remember to tell you.

  • Great video man. I haven't had any experience with pistol grips but I was looking at this camo Ram-Line stock and forend. Has anyone heard anything about this it they're worth 70 bucks?

  • I bought the top folding stock for my 500 (moss) and also the pistol forend from advanced technology. I think it really depends on what you use the gun for. I fired 200 consecutive rounds out of the mossberg both stock extended and folded and I didn't have a problem. With whatever you buy, you might have to either experiment with it or shoot a couple hundred rounds to see how the gun feels. Remember practice makes better, not perfect.

  • Knoxx stocks are overpriced. I use pistol grip stock and pistol grip forend from ATI for $40 both of them

  • Good video.. :D

  • hey great video........about the pistol grip stock, i had just bought a KNOXX SPECOPS STOCK FOR REMINGTON 870 12 GAUGE SHOTGUN, and its about 125.00 and i got it from ebay.....there are 2 versions a 60.00 one which has no Dual recoil compensation system on it, but it looks the same as mine which i have the expensive version....but its a very nice stock/pistol grip........hope this helps

  • Thanks for the comments, guys. I'll have to check out the stock!

  • Great video, thanks

I really like my 870 Police
