Snape to Malfoy manor is basically the same track as one that is in Pirates of the Caribbean 3! It's so similar!! The whole string effect is also very similar to that of the POTC soundtrack

Hedwig's Theme isn't even original, I mean it's not stealing per se because he in essence stole it from himself (he did retrograde inversion to a melody he jotted down for Star Wars). I mean I'm not trying to say that Williams is a fraud but I just think that this score is excellently original and incorporates so many styles of music (asian, arabian etc).
I actually disagree. the dark themes emulated in this score are much more musically profound than in most of the other soundtracks. Desplat uses the choir as not a dominating force, but rather something that coexists perfectly with the orchestra. He also utilizes instruments like the oboe and clarinet; which are woefully underrepresented in most scores. Also, few know this but the vast majority of what you hear in the HP soundtracks is not John Williams. He comes up with the melody.
Yea it was! You know why? It was the only one out of the 7 movies that tried to be like the book. All of the other movies in the series took the book and turned it into something more childish. By the time book three came around the world of Harry Potter was already pritty dark and sad. i am so relieved, i thought desplat's songs on twilight were horrible, but this is really really good. I just wish there was some of the old songs too in the film, it needs that sort of link to the previous movies, especially as it is so different from them.
I prefer Hooper to Alexandre though because with Hooper he was able to incorporate several of Williams themes including Hedwig's theme on multiple tracks. But his scores for the 5th film weren't great. For the 6th he had a major improvement. And if this is any indication, Alexandre will only get better with Potter scores.
Let's hope he actually uses Hedwig's theme more than 3 times. When Hedwig died it was only the first 4 or 5 notes. The one moment you'd actually want to use the iconic theme.
I think this movie was better the second time. Midnight premiere and then 17 hours later in IMAX. Epic. <3 Love how there are no dislikes(: It's wayyyy too epic.
I think the old one is a bit better. Alexandre Desplat should be staying by the twilight saga. It's good enough for that but in my opinion one could do better... not bad though
They totally should have brought back John Williams. Of all the HP films, his scores were the only (for me at least) ones that felt magical. I get that it's a much darker film than SS and CoS and it would be hard to incorporate glissandos and staccato flutes into a movie with such serious themes, but it would have really brought the series full circle. But maybe I'm just being sentimental

Wow! I love this. Great, goes beyond my expectations. He incorporated themes from all the past soundtracks elegantly and without just stealing them: HE WORKED WITH THEM. People who can't tell either aren't listening hard enough, or simply don't have much of a musical ear, I'm sad to say.

However, in a statement made by director David Yates in the Part 1 soundtrack booklet, Desplat was offered the job of scoring Part 2 as the filmmakers were impressed with his work. you know this entire list of the soundtrack is kinda of a spoiler for those who haven't read the book yet, but whatever it's their and their fault that they didn't read the book lol
@09carsten and polyjuice potion/at the burrow. He sneaks it into a lot of the tracks but only a few seconds and usually it's very subtle so it's hard to notice other than the few really obvious ones.
These are so much more mature than years 1-6. It's dark, foreboding and has that air of finality. And are only 30sec previews! I think I will love this soundtrack, can't wait till the 16th! :D
I lost some respect for Harry Potter scores after the 4th one but I am so relieved and pleasantly surprised at how promising this one sounds :D He did a great job

However, in a statement made by director David Yates in the Part 1 soundtrack booklet, Desplat was offered the job of scoring Part 2 as the filmmakers were impressed with his work. It was then revealed on the Warner Bros. website that Desplat will indeed be returning for Part 2.

@09carsten and polyjuice potion/at the burrow. He sneaks it into a lot of the tracks but only a few seconds and usually it's very subtle so it's hard to notice other than the few really obvious ones.

These are so much more mature than years 1-6. It's dark, foreboding and has that air of finality. And are only 30sec previews! I think I will love this soundtrack, can't wait till the 16th! :D

I lost some respect for Harry Potter scores after the 4th one but I am so relieved and pleasantly surprised at how promising this one sounds :D He did a great job
