@KillswitchEnrageZero understand? I'm pretty sure everyone understands what f***ing means, I wasn't trying to mask it. I know the fucking internet gets this crap.
I remember when I first got Blue version for christmas when I was like...7? Maybe 6? It was when pokémon had just come out over here, when it was in the infancy of popularity. I had no idea what pokémon was, and being a stupid lil' kid, I just skipped passed the long walls of text and it took me forever just to get out of Oak's lab. Eventually, I gave in and asked my brother what to do. He said I had to pick up a pokéball, I asked him what that was, and...Oh, look at that...Nostalgia tears...
For the battery issue, it's really easy to replace them. Unscrew the back, slide the front off and pry off the little arms holding the battery down. Replace gen 1 or 2's battery with a C2 2025 batteries (I think that's what they're called), glue/tape the arms on the new battery and enjoy. You'll be able to save again.
Why does everyone have the same version of the song with all the sound effects in it? I'm about to go plug my GameBoy Pocket into Audacity and record it myself.
arg..... people don't understand what I meant. All I meant was that your original save file on your cartridge will be lost one day. No exceptions, unless you risk shorting out the cartridge.
@VuileTeef if you had been reading the responses to the responses to my comment, you'd see that you'd lose your original save no matter what, unless you want to risk shorting out the cartridge and ruining the game forever.
Google: why doesn't my pokemon gold save. the first result is from Yahoo answers. in the top comment the guy gives a link to a guide how to fix it. works for red, blue, yellow, silver and diamond as well. I did it and it works, it will cost you just a little bit of time, but it's worth it ;)
@Dustindarninvalid or you could end up overloading the cartridge and ruin your childhood FOREVER by hooking up an extra power source (it's not nearly as easy as simply "Keeping constant voltage," you've got to have a variable power source that only kicks in when the internal battery is no longer providing voltage, but won't give off too much power if the battery is still feeding the save. In other words, spend a lot of money, or accept the fact that your save is dead.)
Okay, I think it's time I bring some knowledge to this discussion. The battery in the cartridge is what is keeping the save file alive. It will die after about a decade or so, and your save will be gone. They are replaceable, but it requires soldering, and as soon as you disconnect the battery it wipes your save, so you need to back it up first with something like a Mega Memory Card for Game Boy and restore your save after replacing the battery (I have one, they can store quite a lot of saves).
@bluedemonx31 Nothing lasts forever, am I right? Although I do like the ROMs so that I don't have to worry about internal batteries and stuff like that (although Gen III onwards saves the game like how a flash drive would, so I can play my beloved Sapphire 'till the end of time :) )
@pokewhite86 Myth. The internal batteries of GBA games are able to be recharged, the original GB and GBC cartridges are not able to be recharged, through any means. Replacing them is the only option. (Although you could replace them with a rechargable 3-volt, if they exist).
@Famicomnoobation@Jono1874@BlueLight365 but nothing is there to keep your save alive while you replace the battery, unless you want to risk overloading the cartridge with electricity and burning out your game by using a separate battery too keep it powered while you change the 3 volt battery. Either way, you WILL lose your old save without risking overload, and will have to start from the beginning (even if you get your old pokemon traded back, you'll still have to restart the save,)
Ahh...facing Misty on the gameboy of my cousin, as I wasn't allowed to get one myself. This song will always have that 'epic' feeling, purely due to that moment alone. Dat Starmie...
@TheCajunGambit1 All I meant was that your original save (with your precious team and completed pokedex and the like) WILL be lost, regardless (unless you somehow keep the game powered while replacing the battery.
@emokidmercedes I'm not entirely sure, but I think there are adapters that would allow you to transfer your save from the cartridge to your computer, in which case it would be possible to keep your save alive after you replace the battery in the original cartridge, but I may be wrong, idk.
@Pretzelman718 but then what keeps the game powered on, and thus keeps your save alive, during the time while there's no battery in the cartridge? Either way, you'd lose your original save.
FOR ALL THE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO DON'T WANT TO LOSE THEIR CHILDHOOD:
You know how pokemon generations 1 and 2 saved the game?
They used a small internal battery that essentially kept the game on permanently, and without it, the save would be lost every time the game was turned off.
However, they use such little power, they can last for a long time, about 15 years.
Pokemon was released in America in 1998, just under 14 years ago.
@thepersonwhocomentz mine are already all dead ): that's why roms and emulators were invented for android phones <3 not the same, but I'll bare with it
@Joricky12 Actually that isnt true, but the battery is easly replaced with a common watch battery and a screw driver. Your save is fucked no matter what tho
@thepersonwhocomentz You can replace the batteries if you're careful. Granted, the data will still be lost. Also, fun fact, the battery in my copy of silver died years ago (replaced it, but still) but Red still worked.
@thepersonwhocomentz Theoretically you could replace the battery (at the cost of your saved game) by melting the top of a pen cap and putting it around the screw on the back.
by doing this you are responsible for any damage done to your game. as a pointer, i reccomend you try this with a different game that you don't play first.
@thepersonwhocomentz actually my state wont save anymore since 2009 so i was a bit fucked but now i play emulators or just dont stop charging my gameboy advance sp so i dont have to turn it off....
@thepersonwhocomentz My Pokemon Gold lost the save function before that long. Besides, you can always play the games on an emulator these days. It's not an hassle with Pokemon.

@Haxgasm I always captured Butterfree or Nidoran. Butterfree has Confusion and Nidoran has Double Kick. Brock is easy with those attacks.

I feel bad for the kids these days that didn't grow up to the original Pokemon. The new Pokemon of today just sucks.
