And mostly the noise is just made by loudspeakers.

@vinvancent The reason you generally can't hear the crowd is because the network turns down the volume of the crowd noise so that you can hear what the commentators are saying. If you attend an important game it gets incredibly deafening.

Also, in 1988, Auburn was beaten by LSU in the final seconds, and the crowd was so loud that it registered on a local seismograph. The game became know as "The Earthquake Game". To try and compare soccer fan bases and football fan bases is like comparing apples and oranges. Football is played differently, and emphasis it put on pivotal moments. That's not to take anything away from soccer fan bases, it's just different.
