i had guessed ww1 as well, figured it was too obvious, which it was, but the civil war? assuming he was 18 at the end of the war, he would have been about, what, 145 years old?
few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a A killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand(sorry bout spam but this freaks me out)
When you're in "Final Jeopardy!", and you bet more than you're supposed to, that's not a bad wager...it depends on how well you know the category...if you know it well, you can bet a lot...if you don't, don't bet too much, that's all....
I knew that I would know the answer. History is my strong suit. I kick myself for not betting it all. I went all in on the 2 daily doubles and I intended to do in on final. But I couldn't set the one day record so I didnt do it.
Ah, that's fine...but I meant to say that to someone I don't know who it was...he said you made a real bad wager...some people just need to keep their comments to themselves :/
I disagree with that, unless in a Shoretegic position. Betting to cover is the way to go. More may put one at risk at falling behind.
History happens to also be my strong suit, and I knew the correct response off the bat, but I still would only wager $3,001. Here's why:
The situation Kyle was in is known as a "crush" scenario. Basically, given rational wagers, Kyle has a 3/4 payoff matrix. The other 1/4 is if he gets it wrong and Claudine gets it right (and wagers enough).
Say Claudine had a lock for 2nd place. She wagers enough only to secure 2nd place. With Kyle's wager, had he got it wrong, he would lose with the extremely large wager.
It's not a matter of strength of category--even if I got a category that was extremely easy, I would still only wager to cover, and not a dollar more.
...However, there are certain betting strategies that actually allow one to win even in second place, depending only on whether the leader gets Final wrong. In some cases, I could wager so that I wouldn't overtake you and you would still lose as long as you made a rational wager and you got Final Jeopardy! wrong.
And for the record, it's $2,000 for 2nd place, and $1,000 for 3rd place.
How much did you win when you were on. Also, what would you had done late in double jeopardy when I hit the second DD. Score was Willie $8600 Kyle $10,800 and Claudine $13,100
I am guessing you would not have bet it all like I did.
I was never on Jeopardy! actually. The J! Archive developed a wagering calculator and wagering scenarios and I studied them carefully. I have plans to get on, but I only turned 18 last April, and am planning on taking the online test this month.
...To answer your initial question: Probably not the TDD that you did, but something more conservative such as $3,500. I don't know plants, but I do know that the leader after Double Jeopardy! tends to win.
But if Claudine had $10,000 more? Why not? I'd do the TDD.
The pen on my podium was not working correctly. The week of shows the day we filmed was the first day on that new set. There were several technical problems through the day of filming.
Pretty easy for Final Jeopardy.

You flaw in logic is that no one plays for second place. You only get $1000 for second vs. $500 for third.
skipmanii 4 years ago
Actually, there are those who decide to play for second place, or at least try to secure the position.
In your case, while the I thought the wager was too big, it didn't really matter in the end...

No, Willie was strong. We was a 3 day champ. I was lucky to beat him. I am sure he knew his answer was wrong. But he had to write something.

Any chance that the OP has the entire episode still? This game doesn't show up in the J! Archive yet.
chian052 4 years ago
What the heck is the j! Archive.
skipmanii 4 years ago
The J! Archive is a project to archive every clue ever asked on Jeopardy! I searched for the episode there, but it's not archived there yet.
I'm one of the people that archive episodes there from time to time.
Visit the site at j-archive (dot) com.
