  • still great after so many years

  • MBM - Let me set

  • Gilbert & George, "Performance Artistes?" Gilbert & George, "Singing Sculptures?"

This is just pretentious crap. I mean these two Euro dolts allegedly "dancing," not the song itself, which is great.

Listen to and watch the only legitimate videos of this song, by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich.

If you want a comic angle on the song, Barbara Eden (TV's "Jeannie" of "I Dream Of Jeannie") at least sings her own version, and in not a bad voice, either.

  • @gymnastix what do you mean by Euro dolts?

  • Why do I find this compelling viewing, brilliantly eccentric.

  • "Gilbert & George, called themselves “living sculptures”, and although anyone with eyes in their head could see that they were actually two fruity gays in suits" - Waldemar Januszczak

  • 14 people need more tweed.

  • These two have taken being extremely white and worked it to their advantage.

  • @evercharmer What is this "extremely white" stuff? Looks racist to me.

If someone wrote "extremely black," you know there would be multiple posts through the roof.

But apparently it's permissable to be racist, as long as against Caucasians.

  • @evercharmer And my bet is you are "white" yourself--just another sad case of a gullible, easily-impressionable, self-loathing mind brainwashed at a left-wing re-education camp (also known as public schools and/or colleges & universities), and by the media elite.

  • Just dropping by courtesy of Monsieur Aubergine (Alexei Sayle).

The Ministry of Silly Walks is still at it I see.

  • Oh !!!!! that was sooooo funny. Gilbert and George rule, they are the best...............

Or was it just a load of Bullshit.

    Yep it was Bullshit alright.

  • this makes me want to be old.

  • epic dance ever

  • Funny thing is, that's exactly how I dance.

  • tout simplement génial.

  • three out of ten

  • This is monumentaly brilliant.

  • modern art = I could do that + yeah but you didn't

  • I heard somone describe them as a "couple of bank clerks going through a mental breakdown"

  • Gilbert and George are awesome

  • Great artists! There's an exhibition from 'em in Brussels @ Bozar, don't miss it!

  • The correct name for the band who sings the song is Dave Dee,Dozy,Beaky,Mick and Tich.

  • Northern Italy Tyrol meets little England Devon - you can't beat it.

  • this hurts my bottom

  • I hope I can thrust like that when I'm 60...

  • fantastic. really.

  • Gilbery & George are legends! Our tutors decided to show this in a Critical Studies lecture at my university and everyone was crying with laughter!

  • this isnt art is it?

  • @barneycoles

If you sell it to people as art, basically everything can be art nowadays - even though I prefer sticking to the classic definitions of art, like classic paintings and such.

  • @TwilightArts What exactly is a classic definition of art? Many 'classic' artists were derived in their own time. Do you consider the likes of John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rossetti to be classic artists? I seem to remember they were initially frowned upon and they in turn rejected 'classic' art and 'classic' forms. Or is Ophelia also a rejection of classic art? Where would be if people never created, reformed, adapted? Still slime in the ocean probably.

  • @Smyshies

Well, my definition of art covers not only a creative idea, but also effort. Painting a canvas completely blue isn't art for me. I know that art changes over time, but I think without passion, work that you can actually see in the artwork and effort it isn't art. Everyone can create art, but "classic" art like a painting of michelangelo is something not everyone can accomplish. I wanna be stunned saying "woah, that guy sure can paint/draw/sculpt/whatever", if that makes sense to you.

  • @TwilightArts Sorry to bump form out of nowhere, but art does not necessarily imply technical prowess. One example is Jackson Pollock and most abstract expressionists. Another one could be Joseph Beuys, some of whose artworks were simply himself sitting down, covered in honey, with a dead rabbit in his arms (there's a concept behind the piece which makes this apparent "nonsense" be considered "art").

I agree with you in regards to technique being what most resonates with my liking.

  • @elchafa

I know both artists you mentioned and their work as well. I respect "new" forms of art and know how much they influenced the world of art, but honestly: They are not my cup of tea. But I guess everyone likes diffent forms of art, so as long as we keep a certain amount of respect towards other artists we probably don't even like, it's fine for me.

  • i love their art :)

  • Brilliant lads, in no uncertain terms. Love them, in the platonic wotsit way.

I just like their shite in the Tate Modern.

  • Tyrol and Devon,

    would you like to,

    if only, danke,

    bending it, Ooh-arrh!

    might be Somerset....

  • i love gilbert and george.

  • Have G & G collaborated with any other pop stars? I would like to see what Lady GaGa and G & G could come up with.

  • @paulinglenn I would assume it would be a multicolored photograph of GaGa covered in feces.

  • MONTY PYTHON are better, the true art, the beatles of the humour.

  • Hehe, good one :D

  • YOU PEAR SHAPED RED FAG HAGS. (you round buttock blue homos)

  • sweet talking gobshites.

    Show fawning Brussels/Strasbourg, G & G.

  • THE TRUE EUROPEANS.

Feck yews politicians who think yews are.

  • Do I take it that Gilbert and George are an ongoing work of art that is unfinished until both of them are dead?

  • I bought a bunch of useless weird fags once, that'll teach my buying foreign Lambert and Butler! Carlos, you're not very funny.

  • G+G rock. Keep it going lads.

  • come to their upcoming show at whitecube!

  • Silly benders

  • super benders

  • ok ok ok...

i find this hilarious, but PLEASE someone explain to me the significance of what they're doing. why is this art???

  • Comment removed

  • I have no idea either, and I'm an art history major!

  • gilbert and george and renowned for their "art for all". i suppose if something is funny and lots of ppl enjoy watching it, then they can call it a success for their art.

  • I love Gilbert and George

  • quality. fuckin quality

  • I should film myself walking to my car door & class that as art.

  • Yes you should

  • yes man you should film your self walking to your car door and class that as art, or you can also stay the same and class that as art too

  • you could class it as art, but you may well then need a venue to invite people to to see it, see if they get anything out of it, then maybe class something else as art, you know, begin to build a body of work, tho I hope you'd involve sentiments other than 'i could class this as art', otherwise people mightjust consider you as an attention seeker. Why not value gestures of fun and impermanence?

  • Do they really bend it?

  • I don't care who you are, or who you think you are. You're not cooler than gilbert and george.

  • youtube keeps taking down my strip tease videos

    O.o wow hehe Dn

  • Who said white men can`t dance?

  • yes! thanks! these two are priceless.

  • With the suits they are wearing, someone must pay them alot of money for their shit, I mean work.

  • Stop being witheringly ironic and make some more pictures of shit, please G&G. As I'm sure they refer to themselves, down da club, innit.

  • Gilbert: I am always amazed at the number of times we are asked: "Where do you get your shits from?"

George: Of course, we now turn around and say "Harrods."

  • Benders.

  • i saw the original film of this last weekend at the milwaukee art museum. weirdly hypnotic. i find it odd that they chose to use cuts in this one - the original was one locked down shot. go see the exhibit. its a mindfuck and i mean that as a compliment

  • they are too old to do it in one take now... See George sweating?...I bet you they stopped for a nice sit-down and a cup of tea between takes :>

  • ITS ME AND MAL!

I am in love with these guys. Preforming installation at the finest.

  • I don't know if its art, but it sure makes me happy.

  • this never caught on in my area...

  • In some shots they looked a little like Morecambe and Wise..

  • yeah they were often referred to as the Morecombe and Wise of the art world brilliant~!!

  • na man dis iz claz - you iz a litl poo poo

  • this is crap... even if it's performance art... I don't believe this is art at all!

  • think of it as physical comedy - if THEY did not take it (or themselves) so seriously - it could be quite funny...

  • I think they're trying to be ironic. *shrugs*

  • this is not one of their better performances..but as Billy Bragg said "Gilbert and George are just taking the piss"

  • These guy's are such a $3 note.

  • I LOVE THESE GUYS

  • i didn't get it.

  • That's because you're not "in"...

Don't worry, I don't get it either XD

  • it's funny cause their not even gay

  • ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yes they are

  • I was forced to watch a documentary of these two weird guys this Spring semester, and the professor had a few questions about them on the finals. It was quite easy to remember they use bodily waste as a medium in their art, and they like to do these crazy routines for their performance art.

  • I used to work at the TATE and I can assure you that it was awful listening it every 10 minutes

    Now i like it though

  • great dance of a super couple

at a rather pathetic -zorba alike/bouzouki tuned- song "bend it"

sung by "Dave Dee, Dozy, Beak, Mich & Tich"

    omg what a band name

  • i love gilbert and george bending it.

  • i bet they do

  • I lol'd
