nice sounds especiely the old corvette... BUT GOD DAMN they look slow compared to the european cars..... lots of noise and POWER with none of it going to the road ;)
This video looks so fucking strange and I just worked out why.... its that there is a bunch of American cars actually driving on a winding road. You never see that.
Explain please. Which cars have the crappy suspension? You know not all U.S. cars are luxo-cruiser family sedans, right? That Corvette in the video sports a much more sophisticated suspension than say your average 911 or BMW coupe. Chevy was first to market with a Turbo'd all-aluminum rear engined flat 6 with 4 wheel independent suspension. For that matter, the Omni GLH was more than competitive against the GTI, so what's all the "supertanker" BS?? Simply a myth of the ignorant!
@EvilTwinBrotherBob of course, you are right, any american car with a massive engine (cause this is the only way to get horsepower over there) can take on lets say... a Nissan GT-R, Subarus Impreza's, M-Series BMWs etc etc... sorry for being so ignorant...
By the way, could you also correct mr Ken Block please? He's driving a wrong kind of car...enlighten him with your wisdom...
@Yozimbo In the U.S we are very familiar with turbocharging and squeezing power from small-displacement engines, but since there are no arbitrary laws regarding engine displacement we use the most cost-effective solution which is larger less-stressed engines. We also live in a land where one can drive all day on long smooth roads, so historically many American cars have been large, soft "highway cruisers". Once again, not true of all. Please look at the ZR-1 for proof.
@Yozimbo To add... since I own a S-Class Mercedes, a 260Z, a Honda Civic and a LT-1 powered Caprice what makes you think I have a problem with what Ken Block drives? Not everyone sees things as pure dichotomies. Keep in mind also I never said "any American car with a massive engine". You made that up. I am just tired of hearing the nonsense about "American cars can't corner" BS. Even Cadillac has an offering that is faster than your list. Ever built a race car? I have.
@EvilTwinBrotherBob I agree. I own a '68 Firebird, a '74 Pantera and a '88 Prelude. One also has to consider which car is the best for what course or what kind of driving you'll be doing. For this course I think I'd choose my Prelude first. On a more open course I'd choose the other ones. Just because one car is good for one kind of driving and not the other doesnt mean its no good. I like them all.
@EvilTwinBrotherBob ok just answer this then... why the whole world is avoiding using american cars like plague when it comes to racing (even US teams except in events like NASCAR or this one)? As for the "american solution" to gaining HP...i rest my case...Jeeezzz those ppl at WRC and F1 have it ALL WRONG!!!....
@Yozimbo Generally what's used in race cars is dictated by rules, not what goes the fastest/best.The same holds true for road cars. Taxes, import duties and insurance frequently force manufacturers and buyers in a narrow displacement range. Do you even know why "Formula One" is called Formula one? If you did, you would see how silly your statement is.
btw.. please call Mercedes and Rolls Royce to explain how unsophisticated their halo models are as they historically used big V-8s. :)
@Yozimbo note that bmays002 points out that the weight of many high-rpm multivalve, turocharged engines is nearly comparable to modern U.S. V-8s. Added to this, consider that a 6 liter GM LS engine not only can outpower say a hot SR20DET, but it does so with a more usable power curve, better BSFC numbers with less expense and is reliable enough to power a 1-ton truck for more than 200K miles ; only at 100 lbs penalty. It's not the "American" solution just the best for the circumstances.
you could NOT get me into that C3 'Vette for a million bucks. I have no idea how that guy kept it on the track, but he's gotta be some kind of god. those thisgs spin at the drop of a hat.
@musewolfman LoL you're right, at stock ride height these vettes were known for the jacking effect during hard cornering resulting in some bad positive camber on the outside tire... But when lowered a little bit, the the suspensions roll center drops and the jacking effect can be almost eliminated.
@MPZRACEVIDEO No sir! It's a Plymouth Duster ;) But I really cannot recognize the tail lights. The body screams Duster and not Dart but the taillights makes me worried.
@pershio no speed?! where your eyes closed? apparently the dodge dart, the white one with the black grill, is one of the fastest cars there for its class. that thing corners so hard it almost tips! xD
to all losers who pointed out the handling of these cars and other shortcomings. It's not about taking first place here. It's about passion and the entertainment of fellow petrolheads! And actually it takes balls to drive these beasts on these tracks!God bless those guys and the one who uploaded the video, cos i've just been in petrolhead nirvana!

@Olivero1704 i don't think those cars shown in this video are suited to hillclimbs in
europe, the pick-up truck is an oval track car in the US. If build for our european tracks, you would be surprised how quick they are.

V8 cars should not use mufflers as todays regs say. They sound awesome with open
exhaust. It rembers me the years at the oval racing tracks where F1 Stockcars made a spectacular
race every time again. V8 is kick ass!
