We should have freedom of speech and expression in Western democracies- so that includes publishing the cartoons and equally the write to criticise them. That does not include attempted murder and vandalism- which denies freedom of expression by definition. In other words, it was not the cartoonist who is responsible for this crisis, but without doubt those who cannot take offense lightly and who have the intelectual capacity to resort only to violence.
