@94Moonstar, a ring has the same function as a coin does in the mainstream mario games: providing health. If you get hit, you lose your rings, and if you get hit a second time, you die. the Chaos Emeralds, once you/sonic collects all 7, becomes super sonic, sort of like the star in Mario

@DestinyHeroFlamer Coins don't provide health in Mario. They should but don't. You don't lose coins and can die with coins. I think Mushrooms and other power-ups provide health (like if Sonic had a sheild and no rings)

I think the invincibility in Sonic is probably best compared to invincibility in Mario. Super Sonic was meant to be like Super Mario (now called Fire Mario) but Fire Mario's not invincible.
