how many times did u arc strike the inside of the pipe from using a rolling ground clamp!!! Dummy! you couldn't fit a sharp stike up a dead dogs ass and please learn how to properly weld before putting videos on you tube and embarrassing yourself!!!!
Auto darkening helmets are a god send. Trust me he isn't kidding its a small stick you gotta keep in place. The worse thing you could do is miss the gap, and weld on the piece its self.. But mig is usually easier but the helmet still come in handy.
SCAM ALERT!!! this guy is a idiot!! WHO HITS A FLANGE W A HAMMER! WTF!!
THEY DONT SEAL IF YOU BANG ON THEM!
Btw m tread Does not give refunds on his videos he sells. But he does give a lot of bad advice you will have to unlearn. Things that lead to failed weld inspections. i know because ive seen and done it correctly. I dont have problems
I'D LOVE TO HAVE HIM SHOW CURRENT CERTIFICATIONS. I doubt he can produce them.
@hilo5555 your an idiot pipe flanges use a high grade rubber teflon sea to compensate for informalities in the metal also i've never seen a guy weld without using a hammer to level the metal but i can say he didn't adjust his gap properly to compensate for the shrinking of the weld as it cools
@hilo5555 I've done a good bit of flange work...I only use a copper hammer there..and 6016 for root is usually required...I don't know what this guy is using..but most all the 6010 (5P) is sort of red..
@dougspair ..This guy sells videos...? I'm 64...been in-out of welding for 30+years...I still don't know everything, but this guy doesn't seem that professional, compared to others I see on here with learning demonstrations...Especially with the car sitting right there...swarf from abrasives, sparks getting on windows...just my opinion of course... Then I thought he said something about 'buttering' up the root bead...you won't usually be doing any buttering on a root bead...

@Nicolai4973 Technically yes, but the amps is so low you will barely feel it, sticking your tongue on a battery and getting that tingle will be more of a shock :D
You are welding far too hot! I could do that root at 60. The colder you weld the less porosity etc you get. A hammer is not a scientific measure. I'd have this tacked in seconds. You're not a pro welder.
@2thoma27 I would like to see you weld there chief. You have know clue what you are talking about. The best welders I have seen burn very hot. This guy seems like a good pipefitter/welder.
@2thoma27 You're just scared of keyholing. Practice up and you'll be putting in root passes that actually tie in instead of just sitting on the lands.
@2thoma27 You're just scared of keyholing. get a little more practice with higher amperage and you'll put in root passes that actually tie in instead of just piling up on the lands.
i didnt see any real safety problems as stated they may be on there for a reason but somebody who has used a grinder extensivly knows that littl space is never good enough grind everything lotta times you gotta manipoulate the grinder and with that shield p.i.t.a if you as me.
I can weld and do just about anything. Scranton is a long way
from Wyoming. Is it a coal fired plant?
I graduated from Local 28 Boilermakers Union years ago so I had some good training, then got out on my own working my own rig truck in the oil patch in Wyoming. I am a Pastor of a Church as well so it is pretty hard for me to travel and just pick up and go. What are they paying in Steamtown. What are you working on? What type of project is it? Look forward to hearing back from you.
Very interesting video. Where are you from? We need a good welder on Project 565 at Steamtown NHS. Scranton, PA. Do you now how to use cutting torches too?
Some good info. We have a pipe fitter here today working on some 8" and I had no clue what the framing squares were for. I do now. I learned some stuff with your clips which is always good. Thanks for posting these vids
i worked for a company that was a ball buster about having the bevel at a 37 degree angle and square, so after alot of yelling and being threatened to be fired i can slap a bitchen bevel on a 12 in carbon steel pipe in 5 min. but i plan on welding soon so now i can bitch at the help for not getting it right!
That just depends on what your welding on and what code you weld under.
Usually some type of fast freeze rod or tig possible mig on the root. Same with the fill or for sure the hot pass.
Usually on the cap with fast freeze root or tig root will be a 7018 cap and could be on the mig as well or some type of flux core cap with mig possibly. Really just depends.
HAve really been enjoying this series keep up the great work :-)As an apprentice am also learning heaps by watching your positioning & listening from your insights!
I noticed that this video was from 2008, do you still use that speedglas helm or did you upgrade to the newer one?

will welding hardened steel on an old ford pickup truck frame weaken it? if so would it weaken it allot or an acceptable amount?

to beat an arc burn on x-ray just get a welding rod wet and rub it across the burn. the flux will hide it from x-ray lol.

Never Ever hit a Flange with a steel Hammer, use rubber or hit a piece of wood.Otherwise the flange will not seal!!

AS for guards on handgrinders...they are put on at the factory for legal reasons...in the real world you cannot get into anywhere with the things on.

No problems what so ever.
It doesn't work to well with the tig but the upgraded version of the 3 m speedglass does.
The one I am wearing is the fixed shade 10. Hormel 3 M is the best of the best. I have tried them all.
