  • It's about dropping your fucking marbles. and never picking them back up.

  • You don't have to be high to enjoy Animal Collective, you fucking tools.

  • God, thats sad. I love the song, so beautiful. I've read the lyrics over and I think its about a miscarage.

  • The weird thing about animal collective is that i never well almost never liked them the first time i heard them. After like the 2nd time they are awesome

  • @callumhalo Yeah, same for me more like the 10th time. It's an acquired taste.

  • Is the dude at 3:00 poundin' shrooms? xD

  • wow. this is dark

  • when I first heard this I was a little skeptical, slightly creeped out. but after a whole lot of thinking, and a couple trips, its quite comforting now

  • @R0b1zzle137 That's how I felt about Animal Collective in the beginning, except without the tripping.

  • Yeah, i dont know why everyone thinks you have to be high for stuff to sound good... never smoked and experimental is my favorite genre.

  • I am not and have never been high, and this song is fucking incredible.

  • This is one of the best songs ever written.

  • animal collective is cool and i love my mom

  • This song is definitely a 'grower.' I used to skip this song every time I played Strawberry Jam but now it's one of my faves.

  • This is the saddest song in the world.

  • @RamblingCrickets Even sadder than the morbidly Obese Hawaiian Guy's version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow?

  • can anyone hear the fireworks melody in the background towards the last 30 seconds of the song??

  • Ok, I´ve heard them before but right now they match my caothic inside perfect.

In fact their music makes me feel nice and cosy and ´´normally disordered´´.

Beside from (it) being downright beautiful

Who needs drugs when you can have A C free and leagal...

  • @flugsven I had an acid flashback the first time I heard this. Been hooked ever since.

  • I feel inhuman when I listen to this song. Like there is something inside of me, building up so much bigger than I. Its ripping and tearing my insides trying desperately to escape and disperse into the world.

  • @ganamoha but are you really all the things that are inside of you ?

  • I heard this song at the beach and i was so stoned.. That day i visited heaven♥

  • this song is really really beautiful.

  • Great job dude! This is an awesome video!!

  • Absoloutely superb song. There isn't a lot of good bands at the moment. But Animal Collective are simply amazing. I'm enjoying this on Easter Sunday, having a few beers. Such a touching song - truly brilliant. Musical genius. This beats any "mainstream" song any day. Music that means something is always better. This is just beautiful - bottled chaos.

  • DMT!!!

  • Richard H. Thank you for making this.

  • Is there a different version or something cause I heard a song by Animal Collective that had the lyrics "I'm A Cuckoo" but this isn't it?

  • this song is me

  • @kurtywurty85 what a coincidence, me too

  • i have noting to say but wow

  • this song made me have an acid flashback

  • I love how Ac is actually able to wright a song written from the perspective of a dieing inner child or dead inner child.

  • @XxkurtixX That's your interpretation.

  • I finally got to listen to these guys when i was pretty baked last night.

    amazing.

  • Love the piano bits in this song.

  • I think i'm going Cuckoo, Cuckoo

  • What is that red-headed thing?!

  • awesome song, awesome video

  • Trippy. See my Animal Collective discog review.

  • 12 people are going cuckoo cuckoo

  • this song is beautifully ambiguous.

  • if you listen to the lyrics, they describe a dmt trip

  • @DisasterSkateTeam5

nah man. it describes losing everything in time and wishing he could still have the time he once had with it.

  • @DisasterSkateTeam5

    although, dmt is fun.

  • i listened to this high while playing with a kaleidescope.

    it was so beautfiul.

  • I have been searching for this band all my life, every song takes my breath away...

  • i cant hold what's in my hand

  • good job

  • i love this song. its so beautiful(piano) yet so messy (chorus) at the same time. pure genius

  • piano from this song really reminds me of something .. maybe kluster or rodelius song? sample/tribute?

  • woot, they sample liszt.

  • @ninestraycats lisztomania came out after this

  • @xxflareknightxx unless you're a pianist, and in any case liszt is not THAT great just really bad ass

  • @xxflareknightxx liszt is a concert pianist

  • @aaronloughlin yeah i realized that right after i posted it

  • His singing is so unique. I fucking love it!

  • holy fucking cat tits i love it.

  • the king in i died... just drift and pray, for sun-kissed golden days

  • This song massages my brain

  • best 6 minute coma of my life

  • Happy 4.20!

  • Can't feel a thing, no heart flutters in late spring... mmm, mmm Cuckoo, cuckoooooo

  • An irreproachable song indeed.

  • i like listening to this song as i lay in bed im an insomniac and this song clears my mind for some reason...

  • Their first two albums and hollindagain do that for me.

  • the lyrics man the music everything combined

such a beutifull and powerfull song

  • the way the calming outdoor piano music and the heavy loud distortion contradict each other make this unique song sound wonderful.

  • Thats a cute, pale, bright-eyed redhead...save for the 'stache lol

  • The first time I heard this was one of there very early tour they did. Or some form of the song. So glad it finally made it to an album. Epic track!!

  • Whats the song at the end called????

  • Good question. It's a nice little soundscape though.

  • ginger stasche ftw

  • Done marvously well.

  • LSD LSD LSD LSD LSD LSD and a tiny bit of oxycodone

  • trippin bawlz

  • yeeeeeeeh!!!

  • Something tells me you like classical music but progressive music, not so much.

  • "Classical" (as most people today understand it) and "progressive" aren't mutually exclusive labels, unless you take the first to literally mean conventional. Pop, even "indie" music, of today may considered passe and irrelevant to the youth of 50 years from now.

I don't agree that the main strength of this song is limited to what it draws from its passing resemblance to Liszt's melody, though I love Liszt and AC both.

  • may be*

  • nobody wants to ur opinion if u dont like it leave the page and do not listen do u have common since?

  • take it easy. open your mind. be open. open your mind. open your mind. you WILL get a good result. otherwise just take it easy

  • the intro is the best part.

  • this is one of my favorite animal collective songs at the moment.

  • This is their best song, in my opinion.

  • it's definitely one of the best

  • 3:55 is great

  • its cool. this is extremely heavy music to listen to.

  • u dont know real music then.

  • thats the best homemade music video ive ever seen

  • Anyone who doesn't get this bad is dumb.

  • band*

  • i guess i must be dumb

  • yep. probably some dumb rich kid from the suburbs.

  • great video!

  • Comment removed

  • pretty damn good. i've seen very little that mimics an acid trip so well.

  • Yea, i know that they never use drugs to be creative, but god damn... this is a sonic experience the feelings of which cannot really be paralleled except by drugs. ((((O))))

  • did you drop while filming this?

  • see Dog Dream

  • @wtfhah lol

  • every song that my co-worker let us listen to during closing hours, this is one of my fave groups, and i'm thankful for my co-worker forcing me to love them. thanks nate. ;D

  • ....don't be retarded, willy... no wait, i'm sorry. mentally challenged.

  • I just discovered this band last night and I feel my life will never be the same.

  • i concur.

  • It won't be. I promise.

  • @bobanddavid90 Same thing happened to me when I found them. So amazing. So underrated.

  • @bobanddavid90 Its been 2 years, bobanddavid90, how do you feel?

  • One of my all-time favorite songs.

  • this is so beautiful.

  • Maybe If you like CHAOS, you'll like 'Danse Manatee', or the black dice remix of peacebone (it seriously hurt my ears, no joke), but if not, I would recommend yes, easing into AC the SAFEST way possible.

  • ...Is there a problem with having music that agrees with you? Sung Tongs is a good album but I would not want someone trying to get into them listen to "We Tigers," for example. Yeah it's funny to play it around your friends, pretend you like it and see the looks on their faces, but it's not something I would listen to unless I had to.

  • shut up

  • feels is definitely the best album, in terms of flowing beautiful shit but hcti, as i heard someone say, is like "eccentric yet beautiful soundscapes" and sung tongs is just a lot of fun. oh, and listen to we tigers while dabbling in psylocibin. its awesome.

  • this song is beautiful and makes me want to cry in the most nostalgic ways sometimes.

  • Yo, Ava, I can understand your unease, AC is a lot to take in, and some of their songs in my opinion are random crap. But, try the album Feels, probably their best. And try the song Fireworks, that is great musically and lyrically, and it sounds pretty normal-for an AC song.

  • Yo Finkshit, no wonder you level with ava, because you choose Feels which is ac's most AGREEABLE album. Ava, if you want to try to "ease" into AC i suggest feeling out Sung Tongs or Here Comes the Indian first.

  • everybody stop critiquing everyone else's taste in AC. its like drugs, do them because they are awesome, but don't peer pressure.

  • well i see this song as a momento to my life

as i see all good songs

    roflininmacopteralldaylong

  • golly, I do like this. good job-o.

  • And, I think someone else asked this, but what is the song at the end?

  • beautiful song

  • this music will alter your soul

  • if love animal collective lyrics, especially this song, because i had listened for so long and never checked out the lyrics on the internet. so when i listened to the song i just picked up some words, and kind of used my imagination on what the song really means. and the way i see it, it doesn't really matter what animal collective means with the lyrics on this song as long as i get something out from it.

  • and i'm really glad to see u people not only have an opinion but u also back it up why u have that particular opinion.animal collective are not for everyone, some people just wont be able to get their heads around the whole concept of animal collective. But yeah voice ur opinion and dont let anyone tell u ur wrong

  • this is the most intellectual debate i've ever seen on youtube haha

and yet i'm not surpriesed to see such an argument on a video for animal collective

I truly believe you have to just sit back and take animal collective's music in,at first i did find it quite hard to do so,i never really knew what they were trying to say with their music.

But i came back to listen (especially this song) and have eventually found the genius in everything they do,simply an amazing band

  • i'm sorry, but it's just my opinion..this type of music is just not that good to me. This is a place to express opinions and that's what I'm doing. I don't get this stuff, and I don't know how anyone else does. To me music is about expressing yourself, and I can't understand anything this band says, I don't feel anything from them, other than words.

  • If I could for a moment add my two cents on this comment.

I actually find it a bit ironic that you mention that music is about "expressing yourself", yet you condemn this band only because you can't understand what they're saying at first. Well, how do you know if your true self makes any sense at all? AC is probably the most passionate band I've ever listened to, and certainly the most expressive. They're not afraid to scream, not afraid to moan. Pretty darn expressive to me!

  • i never really condemned them..it may be interpreted that way, but I'm saying, I can't even understand the words. It's my opinion that the lyrics are where all the expression is, and if ya can't understand them, and just hear sounds, it doesn't strike me as effective. But like I said its my opinion

  • But that's the thing.. they ARE words! If you looked up their songs, there happen to be actual, concrete words to them. It might take a few listens to piece them together.

Plus, AC isn't the first band with lyrics you can't really hear! Ah-Ha's Take On Me, for example. I have YET to meet a person who knows all the words that are said. Most people just hum/scream the melody. The backbone of a song isn't ALWAYS the words you know.. it's also the tune.

  • And just to let you know, I totally respect your opinion. I hope you don't think I'm hashing you or anything. I know a lot of folks who kind of hold a similar opinion with music like this.

  • i actually don't take it as hassling...It's just that most of their music..isn't necessarily music to my ears. its a collection of sounds, wacked out singing, and crazy flailing on the drums. I forget which song it was..but i saw the live performance, and it just didn't move me...and i have a hard time getting how it can move anyone. i will never say its not art...but its my opinion that its not great art.

  • Ava said "It's my opinion that the lyrics are where all the expression is" You couldn't be more wrong.

  • ok here is the beauty of an opinion its not right or wrong...so im not wrong..i get all my emotion from the lyrics..i like bands that play songs that move me lyrically...my band strives to write songs with amazing lyrics so people can feel connected..so im not wrong..you're wrong for telling me im wrong...disagree with me all you want..thats cool..dont tell me im wrong...i made it clear that its my opinion that lyrics are more expressive.

  • So you don't sense any emotion in an instrumental piece? You are totally blind dude. Its has nothing to do with your opinion. Art is expression. So your essentially calling all instumental not art. And you couldn't POSSIBLY be more wrong. Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, ect. THAT IS THE FOUNDATION OF ALL MUSIC!!!!

  • I never said I didn't feel that the music wasn't expressive. I said lyrics were more expressive to me. Don't tell me I'm blind, I'm a musician myself, who went to a performing arts high school. I do sense emotion in instrumental peices like Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart, but sometimes not as much as I do in peices with deep lyrical content. I'm not going to lie, I feel more from a band when they have great lyrics. It stirs up more emotion for me. Sorry that I don't approach it the way you do

  • I never said that instrumentals are not art dude. I'm a musician, who also went to a performing arts high school. I am very familiar with classical and baroque composers, and I do sense emotion from their music. I don't get why its such a problem, that I feel more from lyrics, than I do musical peices. I can't help it that a peice with great lyrics moves me more than a peice with great music. You seem to really have an issue with me saying that. I never said the instrumentalists are not art.

  • I like the way you support your beliefs alot and you are clearly intelligent. For me its the opposite and its in the abstract lyrics that i get the most satisfaction out of their music, but i can see where you are coming from. I think their music focuses on the "Big Picture" if that makes sense

  • What's the ending song ?

  • Thank you !

  • i love this song so much..

  • The song is good and the video is good, but not together, in my opinion.

    Asdfghjkl

  • brilliant

  • no matter where i am or what im doing when i hear this song i shut off all the lights in that room and just close my eyes. it nearly brings me to tears every time.

  • I do the exact same thing.

Video has a nice, honest feel to it too; I like it.

  • Yo dawg this shit is bangin XD no im not black nor like rap :P respect <3

  • this is a breath of fresh air from the horrible jerk-off representations of humanity that make shitty videos songs and put them on youtube so people even less creative can pladgerize them.

i guess what i'm trying to say is the video moved me and the splicing was done impeccably

  • Excellent video, Well done!

  • This is beautiful, brilliant and baxtrological!

  • What's baxtrological mean?

  • Hirsute and bulbous with a hint of oregano.

  • What do hirsute, bulbous, and oregano mean?

  • I was joking...hirsute means hairy, bulbous means bumpy and oregano is a spice.
