Kawasoe also seems to hit him with that groin kick around 2:40 and he certainly nails him with that head strike! I've trained with Kawasoe and as others say, the intensity is there, believe me!
hes not looking to, but he will spread the Shotokan teachings with comparative impact. Ive graded under both Kawasoe and Enoeda (as well as Frank Brennan) and the intensity was the same
Its a display hence its overall performance. But at look the jumping ushirogeri at 2:57. It makes hard contact on the opponent, nearly knocking him out. See how he lands/rolls, watch his head. Kawasoe knows he's hurt and takes a moment to check. The opponent (who is incidentally one of the greatest and humblest Karate ka in the world) shakes it off and continues. Whilst a choreographed demo it hints at the awesome power Shotokan can deliver but exercised with control which takes far more ability
not very practical knife defence, no surprises from shotokan.

I´d say it´s tobi yokogeri as it is to the side rather than a ushirogeri. Matter of opinion I guess
folsomia 4 years ago
for me that is not close to an ushirogeri, there is no rotational movement, Folsomia is correct in that it could be a yokogeri
