@theawakener7 Reading something in the bible can't and shouldn't change my view because there is no good reason to believe that what the bible says is true. Especially since it is full of things which we know can not be true and contradictions. Also if people think that we can't help what happens because it is all gods will then those people would be less motivated to think about; why things happen, how they happen, what is right, what is wrong and what the solutions to our problems are.
When Christ asks you at judgment, "Who do you say I am?" Make sure you give the pre-Novus Ordo Council answer, "God." I just checked Skep155's video "Do we have bodies in heaven". He makes a very good point. Apparently in hell you have a phisical body (in order to suffer) but only your "spirit" goes to heaven (although how can you feel pleasure there is beyond me - oh, yeah, talking to the big J of course).
I'm going to have to do a response video. The Bible doesn't say that Yahweh is omnipresent. It makes it clear that he walks, talks, eats lunch with Abraham, plays hide and seek with Adam, wrestles with Jacob and shows his impressive loins to Ezekiel (definitely a "he"). No, I'm not making that up, as you probably already know.
It's not until the NT that Yahweh became a spirit and even then he's not everywhere, since Hell is supposed to be a "separation from him".
It's strange how the OT version of God is in every way a more primitive, limited god. Almost human-like in character and temperament, making all manner of mistakes and having regrets - and slowly, as you get through the bible - he becomes more powerful - gains all kinds of additional attributes and finally in the NT - becomes a much more loving-all knowing omi-everything character.
My theory as an RPG geek (role playing game) is that Yahweh got his humble beginnings as a 1st level deity of some negligible polytheistic tribe. Eventually, he worked his way up to being their only deity and continued to level up until he became the supreme deity of this world. You only get the omni-stuff at 20th level.
Alternatively, you could look at Yahweh's story as a cliched American-style rags-to-riches, up-by-your-bootstraps story. He was just a little guy in a world dominated by deities with much cooler names (ZEUS, ODIN, RA ...Yahweh?). They always beat him up at took his ambrosia money at school. One day while hanging by his pants from the flag poll, he vowed, "You bullies will be sorry! One day I'll be the only god on this world. My followers will destroy your followers..."
About phylosophy - we humans, especially the phylosopher humans, often employ "reification" (from Latin "res" - thing, object). For example, there is nothing like "love" hovering around. I loved the point about philosophy, I couldn't agree more. I used to love philosophy until I realized that people used it as a sort of substitute for rational, empirical study.
Don't forget that the first rational naturalistic explanations of the universe had many of their origins in western philosophy, half of the points Dawkins makes in the God delusion are just a reiteration of what David Hume said hundreds of years earlier.

I think the fact that we refer to God as "He" is quite telling. It clearly comes from the fact that men were the ruling / dominant sex ...so clearly he would have to be a "he".

Especially since it is full of things which we know can not be true and contradictions. Also if people think that we can't help what happens because it is all gods will then those people would be less motivated to think about; why things happen, how they happen, what is right, what is wrong and what the solutions to our problems are.

You are right by saying updating a book to modern language doesn't necessarily change the meaning. But when you consider the book we are talking about; used by christian leaders of thousands of different sects of christianity for thousands of years to tell worshipers how to live their lives. In the end the people who benefit the most from it are the religious leaders.

The problem with philosophy is that philosophers don't feel the need to test ideas.
For example, Aristotle said that something twice as heavy will fall twice as fast. You would think that as soon as he though of this idea he could pick up two rocks, drop them and say "Oh bugger, I am wrong!".

Yes, its bizarre how my bravery is always at its highest when I'm taking the piss out of non-existant characters. I was gonna make jokes about woody woodpecker too...afterall - its not like he's going to suddenly become real and peck my eyes out. It does suprise me how much people want the rapture to come soon. if you think about, if the rapture is the end . then would'nt it pretty much mean the death of all mankind. so when people say " I can't wait for the rapture, I can't wait for the rapture, wouldn't that really be like saying " I can't wait to die, I can't wait to die". ;:<

It always bothered me, the people that pray for the Rapture to happen. It just seems to me that instead of praying against the Rapture and resulting Armageddon as being an option, they actually WANT people to go to Hell, and for the devil to walk upon the Earth.
Yup, God loves you alright... he'll let it happen. Omnipotent being, and he wants people to go to Hell for eternity- and he wrote the book to let you know he's that much of an ass to do it.

Yes...well my repentance seems to require me to believe in this awful bible god character. As I have great great difficulty in believing in such obvious fiction... my repentance is clearly not going to happen. When you say Jesus loves me..you might aswell say Bugs Bunny loves me...unless you can prove for sure he was real and indeed the son of god. Preaching aint proof... preaching is just noise ... and frankly I can get that from a vacuum cleaner.

certain things crack me up, particularly if I can play out a story in such a way that really points out the nonsense of it all. Its not always the lines that I think will be funniest that others find funny though... I'm actually quite bad at second guessing what parts people will like best. Choosing my faves though is tricky. I'll have to think about that and get back to you! lol. Oh..and yes I do have fun making them. I currently have about 5 in my head..just gotta get around to recording them!

Read in a Christian's comment to JohnLArmstrong's video "Re, Re,Re The disciples are Dunces" that "in the Sanctuary doctrine in Exodus there is a sacrifice for the unknown sin (sins we don't know we've committed)". If that is true (I've not read the bible, luckily, religion has never darkened my door) can you imagine?!... you may think you are a good Christian, followed everything in the bible, but there is a sin ( sins?) that you don't know even exists! If that is not totalitarianism, what is?

I just checked Skep155's video "Do we have bodies in heaven". He makes a very good point. Apparently in hell you have a phisical body (in order to suffer) but only your "spirit" goes to heaven (although how can you feel pleasure there is beyond me - oh, yeah, talking to the big J of course).

I'm going to have to do a response video. The Bible doesn't say that Yahweh is omnipresent. It makes it clear that he walks, talks, eats lunch with Abraham, plays hide and seek with Adam, wrestles with Jacob and shows his impressive loins to Ezekiel (definitely a "he"). No, I'm not making that up, as you probably already know.
It's not until the NT that Yahweh became a spirit and even then he's not everywhere, since Hell is supposed to be a "separation from him".

It's strange how the OT version of God is in every way a more primitive, limited god. Almost human-like in character and temperament, making all manner of mistakes and having regrets - and slowly, as you get through the bible - he becomes more powerful - gains all kinds of additional attributes and finally in the NT - becomes a much more loving-all knowing omi-everything character.

My theory as an RPG geek (role playing game) is that Yahweh got his humble beginnings as a 1st level deity of some negligible polytheistic tribe. Eventually, he worked his way up to being their only deity and continued to level up until he became the supreme deity of this world. You only get the omni-stuff at 20th level.

Alternatively, you could look at Yahweh's story as a cliched American-style rags-to-riches, up-by-your-bootstraps story. He was just a little guy in a world dominated by deities with much cooler names (ZEUS, ODIN, RA ...Yahweh?). They always beat him up at took his ambrosia money at school. One day while hanging by his pants from the flag poll, he vowed, "You bullies will be sorry! One day I'll be the only god on this world. My followers will destroy your followers..."

About phylosophy - we humans, especially the phylosopher humans, often employ "reification" (from Latin "res" - thing, object). For example, there is nothing like "love" hovering around. It's a short way to describe what one person feels towards another, or others. "Dancing" doesn't exist on it's own, it's a person moving in a certain way to music. And "music" is... you know what I mean. "Existance" is not a thing that exists by itself. "Spirit" is etymologically the breath of a living thing...

But there must come a time when we can't divide it any more - hence " the atom" - "non-divisible" in Greek. But that was in the literate, well-to-do part of the world. In the illiterate, backward part you get religion.
