Im 30 years old and had an awesome time as a kid listening to all these great 80's tunes. Then I turned 10 and along came the 90's. I feel blessed to have grown up when I did. Music just seemed better then. From what Ive read on here we even have 14 year olds digging this tune. Tunes like this never die, but do you ever hear of any 14 year olds praising Puff Daddy or Justin Timberlake tunes. The tunes now are a hit for a couple of weeks then they are forgotten forever. Long live the 80's
OMG how can 19 people be so damned dumb? This is one of the very best songs out of the '80's....nice beat, smooth lyrics and instruments, PLUS, it mentions places on the planet some people have never heard of and most likely (like me) will never see.
It's a SONG. It is not supposed to be politically, geographically, logically or historically accurate. It is Supposed to sound good, and it does.

Discuss what?
Your are reading into a song a political, feminine and economic agenda where none exists. There is nothing to discuss other that your own personal issues.
Ummmm me thinks you need to actually listen to the lyrics. Did'nt say Kiliman. could be seen from the Serengeti, said it rose above. You might want to reconsider your interpretation of this song from your onw biased perspective, and hear the music as it is.
Music moved on. Sure, a lot of people think that music has gone downhill since the 80s, and that is probably true. But it can also be said that it has moved on- technology like Autotune allows people with good ideas but no singing talent to get their songs into circulation. It's the money, see? Modern music gets more money than 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s music now. Though it must be said, Rihanna's last three songs were rubbish.
I can't get enough of this music. I'm 15 and nobody likes the same types of music as me since they're all into the modern crap everyone's putting out these days. Scorpions is my favorite band ever! Hopefully it will all come back someday.

In "Africa", Paich/Porcaro presents a de-singularized postcolonial belief system. The librarian, bosom restrained by acrylic (ie Nigerian petroleum), here represents an "othered" feminine, unable to halt the subsumation of the occidental knowledge center in a flood (read: orgasm) of matriarchal tribal dichotomies. In "Africa", Paich/Porcaro presents a de-singularized postcolonial belief system. Kilimanjaro is not visible from the Serengeti, an irony not lost on firestarters eager to destroy traditional paradigms ("solitary company" is another blistering oxymoron). I can imagine me driving a boat in GTA: VC when I heard this music. The cool water sparkiling and the pixeled sharks and animals swimming. Good memories :D
