Good job, I need to redo my video of this solo, I played it pretty sloppy, getting better with practice. So I have to ask if you do not like to use the vibrato bar? I think it's a pretty important component to the Gilmour sound especially on solos.
@privettricker Gotcha, was just wondering, I guess they are not for everyone! Clapton goes so far as to just block his tremolo system on his Strat haha
Still though, great job! Love playing this solo, next one I am tackling is Money, which is slow going haha, plus I have no 22nd fret. Will be interesting.
Great job! @ what age did you start playing, if you don't mind telling? Also, are you able to execute those Gilmore bends using 10s or do you use 9s? I hate to have to set my string height up 2 be able to bend under the next string. I don't have trouble, really, except with the high E. It's strange that this string seems to have more tension on it than the B or G strings. Do you've any opinion on strings, or the graduated-tension strings promoted by the guy from Zachery guitars? Tips on bending?
@AVEIL Started playing when I was 14. These are probably 10s, certainly not lower than that. I think Strats kind of need thicker strings or they sound way too thin. My only tip on bending is to practice. Find out what's most comfortable to you, e.g., bending with 1 finger or 2 or even 3.
I've just come back from the future through a worm hole portal to let you know that in about 20 years time a band called Pink Floyd will write a great song called Time and about 39 years after that a dude called privettricker will partially cover that track. That's all I can say right now as ..so..sor soz sor.sorry..may lose signal soon as ...about to enter dark side of the moon ..
Last night I dreamed I could play guitar like that. I woke up and was sad when I realized I can't, and thirty years of effort has proven that I never will be able to play like that.
By the way, a sunburst strat with a maple neck is in the top ten of the coolest guitars ever made.
@MrDorkusMaximus Just try breaking this one down into sections and learn them one at a time rather than trying to nail the whole thing all the way through.
@vikingchris22 No pedals. To be honest, I don't really pay much attention to amp settings. I recall I turned the bass on the amp down to near zero and pumped up the reverb to about 7.
Great job. Too bad you're not from around here. I need a full time picker ( that is if you were interested ). We do some cruises. 90 day to 6 mo at a time. $1500 wk, free room and board, food room service ect. Play 4 45 min sets off every 7th day. All income is tax free. I have two leads now but one is leaving in a few months. Peace, Keep picking. SHerrill
THANK YOU!! I could see also you were having difficulties following exactly what David was doing but hey, that was the best cover ive seen so far! Makes you wonder how David could actually make a solo that beautiful and do it with ease!
Here's my list of Pink Floyd songs I'd love to hear...AND see you play, because watching you is half the fun: Astronomy Domine, Lucifer Sam, Corporal Clegg, Cymbaline, Green Is The Colour, The Narrow Way Part I, Echoes, Obscured by Clouds, When You're In, The Gold It's In The, Childhood's End, Stay. As always, thank you for teaching and inspiring me, and everybody!
The best most deliberate solo ever! Every single note counts! This was the first guitar solo that I really loved. Like an arrow that pierced through to my soul. You do it justice, good sir! Nice use of vibrato!
Brilliant and thanks for paying tribute to my favourite guitarist. Every one of his solos tells a story with just notes and phrases and you re-told it perfectly.
One of my guitar heroes David Gilmour. Always loved this solo. Up there with Young Lust of The Wall for me. Although I could cry with joy every time I hear the solo at the end of Another Brick in the Wall. Is there anybody out there?
I've checked out a few of your vids-Great playing bud. IMHO utilize backing tracks if you don't already, I want to hear more you dude.

@HereticWarfare I hate vibrato bars. And yes, it's an integral part of Gilmour's sound...which is why I don't play very many Floyd songs.

angela21215 1 month ago
@angela21215 F#m to A to E repeats a few times, then the slower part is D to A to D to A to D to C#m to B to E. I think!
