Not really. The VG10 uses an APS-C-sized sensor, which is around 20x bigger than a comparable Handycam's sensor. Many high-end cinema cameras like the F23, RED, or the Alexa use large single Beyer-filtered sensors.

Every digital cinema camera is single-chipped at the moment.

@FelixVanOost94 A combination of PMW-EX1s and EX3. Nothing renders colors like these cameras and with such sharp detail. With the HD-SDI signals, the quality is even better. I'd hate giving up the color quality just to have shallow depth of field, which, to me, seems a questionable attribute. Back when I used to shoot 35mm, I was constantly fighting to get enough light so I could stop down to F16 and get most of my subject in focus.

Regardless of frame rate, digital video will still look like digital video. And anyone buying this will know how deinterlace video. Just a heads up ;)

Although the real reason why Sony probably stuck with 1080i is because this will most likely be the "consumer" model and a further release of a higher end version for pros will probably have progressive scan.

I'm pretty sure someone will come out with a firmware hack though.

@anonymous345 1080i60 or 1080i50 is IIRC the standard way to deliver HD format for broadcasting. Even Sonys most expensive pro models has this recording mode.

It already is progressive, so you dont need a pro version for that. :P

I assume audio capability in this case means no external microphone was used? I'm blown away! Looking forward to a model that has XLR inputs and 1080/24/60p. For under $2000, and getting a Super35mm size sensor is absolutely incredible. S35 film has 22mm width of picture area. Most consumer camera sensors are much closer to 8mm frame size. Oh and Sony, I would love to see some E-mount f/2.8 zoom lenses! Keep doing this awesomeness!
