Tornado was immobilzed in the end. Actually in series 4, tornado was not as durable as they were later. It was also almost immobilzed when it faced wheely big cheese in the semi final. And all these mechanic troubles made them weaker and got swept by Chaos2 in semi final.
If there is one rule I don't agree with, it's walkers are allowed 2x weight. Maybe they are allowed a bonus but double is pretty excessive. I recall a fight in Series 7 where a 200 kilo walker took its opponent out with ease and with its numerous legs, it moved like it actually had wheels.
@ulongkoror Why? The rules against them (divided weight for each model / if one goes they all do) that bringing multi-bots into battle are generally very ballsy, but very rewarding if done right. I think it's fair.
this was not a great match up, two pure flippers against a robot that works on either side lol, and i doub't they are powerful enough to flip it over the edge
ramming speed with spikes on the front, and the "unflip-able" factor ( it can run on both sides ). It's mainly about the ramming speed, Tornado can built up a lot of speed and it's got heavy duty armor. It just whales on it's opponents untill it or the opponent stops moving.
god gemini should not even qualify for the show =.= im pretty sure the whole point of having 1v1 battles is so is ACTUALLY ONE ON ONE,like in a tennis match or sumo battle or medieval joust, you cant bring an identical twin even if both of you are short, that just doesnt work =.=
It's quite ironic how we got all of these different robots with these outlandish and crazy weapons, with their spinning blades and humongous lifting arms and hammers and spikes...
And then this freakin' box on wheels whups their asses.
@graalplayah the events are held all round the country by companys called roaming robots, robots live and robochalalnge, robots like smidsy, dantomkia and hydra still compete and razer does demos. the feather wieght class is most popular, 13kg costs around £200 for a decent robot, mesage me if you want more info!
Is it just me or was Tornado immobolized at the end here? I know it doesn't matter because Gemini was immobolized first but they just seemed to stop after that final flip.
@kanenkitten it wasn't cheating. there was no rule specifying that a robot has to fit into the pit. your just mad cause razer lost that fight and had they beat razer a different way, you would be crying about it too. poor baby.
@kanenkitten Look, this isn't the place to debate whether or not Tornado cheated against Razer. Argue about that elsewhere please, and just try and enjoy Tornado in its infancy.
@kanenkitten tornado won series 6 fair & square - their frame was within the max limits of dimensions & thus, they didn't cheat. they may have bent the rules on going in the pit, but they didn't exceed the dimensions listed in the rules, and they informed the judges & technical assistants of this frame, which was listed the whole series in their weapons and all that. ever notice how tornado's size was absurdly high when it didn't use the frame. that was the max size it became with this frame.
@PolarBearMath maybe, but the robots that should win robot wars in my opinion are the best engineered robots - the robots that also DO NOT BREAK DOWN! tornado rarely ever broke down. proves u don't need an elaborate design of a robot to win, just need power, good engineering and great driving. tornado had all of those. storm II also had those qualities, plus speed, in the next wars.
If you look carefully at the back of each Gemini cluster, there's 2 big square holes with no armour. A sheet of metal was added for Extreme & Series 5, but bizzarely is missing here. When one of the cluster's was rammed onto the arena side spike by Tornado, the spike must have pierced some delicate electronics (Shane mentioned either a speed controller or a battery) inside, therefore immobilizing it. Gemini had the potential to do very well, but the team left some serious flaws with it. Shame.
nice observation. That may be the key reason that one of them got itself stuck by the spike. Gemini never overcomes these flaws, while tornado team was gaining experience and improving the machinery and paving their way up to the grand champion.
@tclol Yeah, why did they change that? Was it me or did Typhoon have a lot of things go their way? I mean, the fact tehy were allowed to enter essentially 3 robots that are exactly the same into the Middleweights (Typhoon, and Typhoon Twins - two smaller versions of Typhoon) and coupled with that clusterbot rule meant there was no stopping them. Odd. They should've gone in the eliminator - one of the Typhoon Twins slammed off 259 and went straight in the pit, that should've been it.
@tclol Let's put it this way - would any other robot be allowed to get away with being half-immobolised? I've seen robots which can only spin in circles as their immobolised on one side be classed as fully immobolised, so why not clusterbots?
Tornado is clearly the better robot. But I love the design of Gemini, 2 robots attacking 1 opponent. and can help each other out if they get into difficulty.
But they need to be heavier, 50kg just isnt enough.
The Gemini bots were just lovely things, If they had been controlled by a couple of *really* skilled drivers I imagine they would have been almost impossible to beat.
Tornado is getting a lot of flack in the comments, basically it's key features was it was very hard to stop, very powerful, tough and well built.
Sure noting fancy but also a lot less to go wrong.
The first spinning robot ever created. It was designed by Adam and Jamie from Mythbusters. It used a land mower's gas engine to rotate at extreme speed and cause massive damage.
L-O-L Blendo is fully round, thus no spot to dig razor's sharp grip into and Blendo has blades spinning at the speed of a gasoline land mower engine at the very base of it's round rotating armor. The kinetic energy would literally bend Razor's pick and surely break something else inside of it too. It's a loosing battle.
@Ammonite78 Hehe, thing is, self-righting is useless when you can't even get under it. The flipper on gimini is too short! It would his one of Blendo's blade before it can even flip it.
Also, spinning robots are hard to flip because of gyroscopic effect.
I agree. It doesn't get any more plain than a fucking square with wheels. A weird robot would be a penis-shaped bot which walks on 17 legs and breathes fire out the tip.
lolz common fact by craig charls lolz for clusterbots XD if one is dead then the whole thing is dead XD heh for me clusterbots are the more entertaining yet bizzar lolz i mean most of them can prove even more double trouble for the house robots :).
Clusterbots are kind of lame in general...although Gemini is the best of the few I've seen. There was one on Battlebots called the Swarm that was 3 small robots, the advantage being that two had to be immobilized before they were out, the disadvantage being that in order to make weight the three bots were so small they were pretty ineffective.
Swarm was a good idea; it allowed one of them to be incapacitated without ending the fight, but it was poorly executed. With 1/3rd the weight, they should've focused on driving power, and forgone weapons.
