  • Haha, Ninja Turtles! GO NINJA GO NINJA GO!!

  • will restoring back delete my apps that i've downloaded from bn store, and if it does will archiving them allow me to download them again once ive rooted the nook tablet

  • @MrBaritoneDude if you just follow the sdcard rot method you wont have to restore back. and can still enjoy BN content without it affected

  • Hi Albert. I first want to thank you for doing such a great job with the Rooting process. After a few trials and errors, I was able to get my NT rooted, YEA. The only issue I have is that the ADW launcher displays an error when going to the home screen. The error is "Problem Loading Widget". Have you seen this before or have a guess what might be causing it? Thanks again! Dave

  • Is there a way to unlock the 15gb they block only for barnes and noble?

  • Does this work for the NOOK COLOR also???

  • ...and the company won't be able to tell that I had it rooted if I need to send it in?

  • When i try to do it my nook doesn't start restoring I get a message saying "Please restart and try again. if this problem persists call customer support" What should i do?

  • I follow it step by step been trying for weeks my nook tablet always said that it cant read the format of my sd card

  • I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that has tried helping me get my NT back to 1.4.0. I finally got a 4GB card (Hama brand is all they had) and followed the instructions again. IT WORKED FINALLY!!! Like many people, my N button didn't work, but I did the 8 reboots(although I had to let off the power button each time). It erased data, and now it works! I am currently downloading apps from amazon store!! Now, how do I block the 1.4.1 update from being pushed automatically to my NT?!

  • @elizabethsparks2002 now follow my video for OTA block ;) unless your version number is already 9.9.9 then you are all set ;)

  • @albertcwertz Thanks! I am now just at 1.4.0. (I am sure you got tired of me asking you questions all the time trying to get it restored to this, so thanks for your patience!) I have watched the OTA block video a couple times before; does it root the NT? I really need to keep my warranty!! I have also seen your unroot, reformat, return to stock video. Does this really get it back to stock so that if I needed to use the warranty, the company wouldn't know I rooted it?

  • @elizabethsparks2002 ota block doesnt root, just blocks barnes and noble from updating you but requires root already. yes unroot returns to stock

  • @Vincent777 i offer rooting services if u like

  • @albertcwertz Thanks but no thanks. Im just not comfortable using indirect guide and files. Lots of people had problems it seemed like in the comments. I was able to root my kindle in 5 minutes. Your video is great, but what happened in your video does not happen when I try to root.

  • I'm sorry, Ive followed this video perfectly yet I cant install the go launcher or homecatcher. In the zerg.bat, after I install the gApps i get an error saying that it cant find a launcher and im unable to install adw or whatever its called.

    I give up.

  • The sd card worked perfectly. The "n" button didn't work so I did the 8x power reset. But now that it is erased I can't register the device. I keep getting a network problem. Could this be because I didn't deregister it before? The network was working before I started the root so I don't think it's a network issue.

  • @DGot14U Nevermind. It really was a network problem.

  • i inserted my micro-sd card in the wrong way, now its jammed... and i can't get it out

  • When I run the nook&zergy file it does not show my device what do I do?

  • can this same process be done on a nook color?

  • For some reason, my nook isn't booting off the sd card. Ive followed the instructions exactly, but it isnt working. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

  • Someone help me out, the only sd card i have is the one in my HTC Inspire 4g, could i put the 1.4.0 files onto this via my data cable with the sd card in my phone with all my other junk for my phone, then just take it out and put it in the nook tablet? Please help me out!!!

  • my N button doesn't work

  • following step by step. so far so good

  • I've tried both methods of reverting to 1.4.0 by using a magicSD and the 8 times factory restore but both result in the firmware being 1.4.1, any ideas?

  • @R0R1N my assumption would be user error because the 1.4.0 restore works flawlessly. Did you properly place the file in the main root directory of the sD card and not unzip it?

  • @albertcwertz I downloaded the file from the xda developers forums and copied it to my sd card unzipped after formatting to fat32.

  • @R0R1N instructions say dont unzip...

  • @albertcwertz Sorry I meant unzipped as in as a whole, but i found a different sd card and it seems to be working now...i was using a sandisk 16g before

  • @R0R1N Download the file directly from XDA developers. That one works. This file apparently is corrupted in some way and would not load on my Tablet

  • @R0R1N I have the same problem. I previously rooted 2 weeks ago. DOS prompts offered the OTA & I accepted. Device noted 1.4.0 & not 9.9.9. Thought it was good (yep, noob here, too). B&N pushed update this morning. I re-formatted my Toshiba 8gb (the same one I used the first time) added the acclaim zip file, restarted my NT & it bypassed the card. I tried doing the 8 reboots & put card back in. No luck & the tablet adds all the B&N stuff to the card. I will try with a NEW SD card. . . ?

  • My wife bought her self a nook color and it came with the 1.4.1 update with it. Now once Ive restored it back to 1.4.0 can I root it with cm7? I'm only asking because I have my own nook color and I'm currently running cm7 on it. And my wife likes cm7 and she doesn't want the Honeycomb or the ice cream sandwich OS.

  • @skwaaone Did you restore the color back to 1.4.0 with the instructions used above? I can't get my nook tablet to boot up using the sd with acclaim_update for 1.4.0... it just bypasses it and boots normally! Thanks

  • @elizabethsparks2002 no I havent yet but I will let you know how it goes when i do.

  • @elizabethsparks2002 Ive restored my nook to 1.4.0 and it worked for me with no flaws. Ive rooted it also and followed his steps with no problems I'll post a video of my rooted nook to show that following albertcwertz steps does work. @albertcwertz thanks my rooted nook works great.

  • @skwaaone you can root but not with cM7 that is not released yet for nook tablet. Just root and android market access

  • @albertcwertz thanks for the quick reply. Ive got one more question for you. Is there any way to go back to an older os like 1.2.1 or 1.3.0?

  • I have tried and debugged, and it won't register my device :(

  • I wonder if I am not getting the complete zip file downloaded. I used the link you referenced above from XDA, but it doesn't take me to the page you show in the video. It takes me to a white page with a tab name viglink.com and after a couple seconds asks if I want to open save or save as. When I choose save as, the name it automatically has is acclaim_update(no .zip on it). Is this correct? I'm sorry if I'm thinking about this too hard, I just can't understand why I can't get it going! THANKS

  • @elizabethsparks2002 that is correct

  • @albertcwertz I still can't get a file that will copy to my card. I keeps telling me to "insert last disc of multi-volume set..." Over here the internet is slow, so it takes about 2.5hrs to download acclaim_update. I let it run until it says it's done. Is there anything else I can do?

  • are you unzipping it? needs to be on sd card zipped @elizabethsparks2002

  • @albertcwertz No Sir! I drag/drop the zip folder onto the card. I am downloading the file again, just because I guess. It automatically saved itself as acclaim_update (without the .zip on the end), I just hit save-as so I could put it where I wanted it. I have another 1.5hrs, then I will see how big it is compared to what the website says it is suppose to be.

  • @albertcwertz Ok, I actually got the full file this time. I went back and looked at my previous versions and it wasn't the full 266075KB. I got the right size this time. (I guess the internet was kicking me off before complete download the other times.) However, I tried following your video's instructions again, and it bypasses the SD card boot, and boots normally...?!?

  • ...the below that it had File system=unallocated, capacity=29.53GB, type=logical. Did I do it right? It seems weird that the left over GB space is unallocated. Will I be able to use it for saving stuff/apps/books/mags?

  • Albertwertz... I have my new 32GB card. I tried to put the 1.4.0 software on it, but at the last of the download it told me to "insert last disc of Multi-volume set..." The software file I have is 248MB. Do I need to go in my card and repartion? I tried to. I opened EASEUS Partition Master. Initially it said: sectors per FAT32=29.82GB, Root Directory Capacity=unlimited, Type=primary. When I went to resize/move partition, and selected 300MB, it said: FAT32=301.92MB, Type=primary.......

  • Ok. What does the HC on the cards mean, anyway? Do you think the NT can handle the 32GB class 10 Patriot HC that I have? I had so much trouble with mine. I am getting it exchanged for a new one because I think this one was corrupt. At least that is what I am hoping is all that is wrong.

  • @elizabethsparks2002 High Capacity, and I think it is thrown on cards greater than 2 GB. As far as class, many people have reported no faster speeds beyond class 4 or 6, so having a higher class than this may not increase your speed on the NT due to internal hardware limitations of the Nt. I would just stick with C4 or 6, they are fast enough to do anything you want on the nook, even video stream.

  • @albertcwertz Oh, Ok. Thanks. My new card should be in any day. If this one doesn't work either, I will just get a new kind and get a C4/6.

I forgot to ask last time; If I root my NT, can I really unroot it fully if I need to use the warranty? Will B&N's "tech people" be able to know I had rooted it?

  • Isn't that the file that i put on the SD card and transfered to nook? Thanks for the reply also

  • Hi on 28:35 can you send me the link to the file you are opening?

  • @morrisdyl are you talking about tgps? you dont have to use that, use any app downloaded through the browser to access the menu, it would be more usefull to download the hidden settings app, located in xda. I cant post links in chat, if you rooted, you have downloaded that before. if it doesnt show up in search with xda root nook tablet, search albert root sd rom and it will appear

  • Hey Albert, I followed your how to step by step, and when I get to setup your device tab, put my email and password, it tells me..

    "Error

Sorry we're having rouble setting up your NOOK. Please shutdown the device and try again.

If the problems persists, contact Customer Support at 1800THEBOOK"

I have tried doing the 8x boot attempt, and putting the sd card back in there, nothing, I get the same thing. Any idea? Thanks.

  • @eur0boii make sure you have a CC assigned to your online barnes and noble account,, even if you dont want to buy anything. is a glitch on barnes and noble registration process

  • @albertcwertz Still nothing, I just added a credit card to my account on their website, and I still get it. I will try to do the 8x boot attempt again and see if that helps. It probably is a glitch, when I click Device Info, I have SW Version 1.4.0. weird.

  • why do you not recommend HC cards? I am pretty sure that is what I have.

  • @elizabethsparks2002 some people have complained about them not working, but I have no problem with them. In fact I sell the HC cards with root programs on it, see my latest video.

  • no, I have a NT.

  • I followed your instructions but cannot get my NC to restore to 1.4.0. I formatted my SD card, turned off NC, placed the acclaim_update.zip on the card, inserted the card in the NC and turned it back on. But the NC just boots up normally, ignoring the update file.

  • @MyZionistSoul is that because you are using a Nook Color and this is meant for Nook Tablet?

  • @albertcwertz

Yes, that's it exactly, I'm a moron for not paying closer attention to the title. I don't know why the idiots at B&N made a tablet with Nook in the name, it's impossible to sort through stuff about the tablet from stuff about the eReader. They should have called it the B&N Tablet. Great video, thank you for your response.

  • i would love to donate but im just a kid

  • @albertcwertz, great video, I was able to remove 1.4.1 and get back to 1.4.0, but now when I try to root, it is not recognizing the Nook in the DOS screen, I'm fairly certain all the drivers are installed correctly, but i am a the definition of a noob, so any help would be greatly appreciated

  • @lowedwn did you redownload file and enable debugging again?

  • i've restored my nook back 1.4.0 then ota upated me back to 1.4.1 and now im trying to restore it again but it's not booting into the update need help! Thanks!

  • try 8 failed boots and try again the acclaim sd @MegaGamerGhost

  • @albertcwertz I know you were replying to Mega but that helped me out a ton!! Thanks so much!

  • I rooted my tablet Christmas Day and was enjoying it and about a week later they got me with the update. I rooted again and they got me again during the middle of the night! Now I can't restore because the tablet won't read from the SD card...argh!! I don't have another one. is there another way to do it?

  • @sweetep59 i would try to reboot, pull sd out and put back in, then turn on and try again. f this doesnt work then try 8 failed boots and try again

  • Hey I know you are busy answering questions so I searched the almighty Google and it had nothing useful so maybe you can help. I rooted my tablet when it was 1.4.0 and installed android on the eMMC, and since in the 2 weeks I had it it never updated from 1.4.0 to 1.4.1 figured it never would and didn't risk messing up my B&N account and now I am paying for it because it finally updated to 1.4.1. Anyways, is it possible to revert back to 1.4.0 from 1.4.1 without unrooting? Thank you for alludo!

  • @JudgeH2O if you are 1.4.1 then you are already unrooted. so have to start over anyway. sorry

  • Doing all of this isn't going to mess up the account is it?

  • @Hunt3hr nah

  • I already have the account with a credit card assigned to it.

  • P.S. The SW Version is 1.4.0 and Model Number is BNTV250

  • @Hunt3hr doesnt matter, is problem with your credit card on barnes and noble

  • @albertcwertz I already have the account set up with a credit card.

  • @Hunt3hr try making another account with a different credit card? also, log into your barnes and noble account and remove the tablet if it appears as a linked device. If this doesnt work, call barnes and noble and give them your device ID and tell them you are the owner and they will make sure it is not registered to anyone else. did you buy this used or new? ever register it on another account?

  • @albertcwertz It is linked, but it won't let me unregister it from the website.... I have to do it on my NOOK don't I? and I don't have access to settings... and it is new since right before Christmas and it is only on this account.

  • @albertcwertz Sorry sir, my mom had got this for me and I forgot we made multiple accounts for multiple nooks, sorry for wasting your time and thanks for your help. I had the wrong login and pw... I'm embarrassed now for taking away from your time. Sorry again... I promise from now on my questions will be legit.

  • @Hunt3hr i had a similar issue and i had to get them to help me fix it in barnes and noble. They told me to do what I told you and it worked. There must be something else going on. Only other thing I can think of is try acclaim update dot zip file to revert to 1.4.0, see if that changes something, then do 8 failed reboot method and see if it works again...

  • @Hunt3hr Bumping this to make sure you see this.

  • @Hunt3hr dont do this please. It doesnt make me see anything. Just clutters.

  • @Hunt3hr no worries, glad you figured it out

  • Sir, please help me. I am trying to root my nook as you are showing, but I am having trouble... after I restore my Nook to factory settings, I am attempting to register it... the time and wifi works fine, but when I try to login to the account, it says the following message: ERROR: Sorry we're having trouble seeting up your NOOK. Please shutdown the device and try again. If the problem persists, contact Customer Support at 1-800-THE-BOOK (1-800-843-2665). Please help me as soon as you can. Thanks

  • @Hunt3hr your problem is that you dont have a credit card assigned to your barnes and noble account. Log into barnes and noble website with your computer. Now assign a default credit card. This wont charge anything, just a registration glitch with NT. Welcome ;) rinse and repeat the registration

  • I rooted my nook following your two other videos, ran out of time yesterday, came back to it today and it had updated to 1.4.1 (left wifi on) it still has the ADW launcher though (I guess I thought that would go away when it automatically updated?). Is this video what I should do to get it back to 1.4.0 then follow the steps of re-rooting it like I just did? Thanks for your help!

  • I have the same issue as @soupdragon12345 My home button 'n' does not bring the Old Nook Nav bar up. When I click it twice it takes me to the nook interface but the nav bar is missing. No Library, Search, Web, Settings buttons are there.

I see a reply.."that is because you chose yes to the last root option. There is no undo for this except to unroot and then reroot" What was the last question??? I don't want to make the same mistake twice!

  • @kainz101 last question asks do you want to make it to where N button goes to home on first click instead of showing menu on one click for menu. chose NO

  • when I turn on the NC with the sd card to restore back to 1.4.0 an error comes up. what am i doing wrong?

  • @trinichaos NT ONLY not NC

  • Hi Albert do you think there will be a root for version 1.4.1 instead of reverting back to the old version?

  • there is a work around for it, but it is not as easy as this @soupdragon12345

  • @soupdragon12345 Root new tablet and it went great. However, my home button 'n' does not bring the Old Nook Nav bar up. When I cleck it twice it takes me to the nook interface but the nav bar is missing. No Library, search, Web, Settings buttons are there. Any suggestions. I would like the have the Nook interface in addition to the rooted android interface.

  • @susang1952 that is because you chose yes to the last root option. There is no undo for this except to unroot and then reroot

  • I haven't tried an SD from WM. I am overseas with the military. It takes about 2 weeks to get mail. Last week I accidently went through all the steps for making a bootSD to make an Android tablet out of a NC, then found out it ONLY worked for NC(I have the NT). Should I have made the SD card into a boot disc for trying to do what I am doing on my NT? I have reformatted it several times. What is the Titanium metioned above? Sorry, I get lost in the forum talk and can't figure this all out easily.

  • @elizabethsparks2002 i know this can be hard d overseas, yes, you need to make one for this and is NT only. If your SD doesnt work, try another sdcard from someone else, try borrowing one, try to stay away from HCsdcards.

  • I'm looking to root my tablet. I have version 1.4.1. Is an SDcard essential to root the device? I ee in your root process directions, you need to patch back to 1.4.0. I do not have an SDcard currently.

  • @xixGeTSuMxix This is what I would do. There is another method posted in forums for 1.4.1 but it is more difficult and requires command prompt hacking I think.

  • @xixGeTSuMxix This is what I would do. There is another method posted in forums for 1.4.1 but it is more difficult and requires command prompt hacking I think.

  • hey albertcwetz, i have a problem i need to restore but umm, my sd card is only 235mb big...only a few mb away to be able to hold the restore file, is there any nonessential files, within the zip that i can remove to make it fit into my microsd card?

  • @bmz6363501 no, buy a new one they are cheap now. walmart 2gb

  • You rushed through the parts that I actually was trying to figure out.

  • Thanks for taking the time to do this on camera.

  • works great. But at the part where you do a factory reboot to get the N button working again, you need to remove the SD card before the restart because if you dont it just reloads the patch which stopped the N button from working in the first place

  • @rossmarc worked ok in the video ;)

  • When I turned my NT back on with SD in, it didn't tell me to wait for loading, showing a progress bar. I told me to restart my device and try again. I tried it a couple times; re-formating SD and coping file again; even deleted file off hard drive, downloaded it again from site. Still telling me to restart, try again. The acclaim_update zipped folder I have is 4.94MB, I got off Team Komin Files site that the link sent me to. I copied to a Patriot 32GB Class10 SD. What am I doing wrong?

  • @elizabethsparks2002 you try a cheap 2gb card from walmart>?

  • Help! All works, but for some reason, instead of giving me software version 9.9.9 all I have is "Unavailable" - will this work, or did I do something wrong? Ahy help would be appreciated.

  • @leroygaret1971 you froze the application, go in and unfreeze it

  • Hey I did the reverting my Nook version 1.4.1 to 1.4.0 so i could root it and Im stuck that when i press the "N" ,to be able to get the web browser, it is not loading it. It seems that the "N" button is no longer working but i do know that the version was changed to 1.4.0 cause i can access the quick setting to get device info. What happened? What did I do wrong? Please help.

  • @cgallo27 You should do a factoy reset like what albert did in this video

  • i'm in the process of working on this... i really appreciate the time you have taken to get this information to us noobs

  • Actually nevermind, just went through everything normally after reverting to 1.4.0 and it all went smoothly

  • thanks for the video i havent done this yet and i have a question. My nook was updated to 1.4.1 while dad was using it and i had already rooted the nook tablet through indirect's method, when i revert to 1.4.0 would i have to unroot the nook or do i just leave it as is?

  • I followed all the instructions and tried various different methods to revert my nook back to version 1.4.0 when I load my sd card into my nook and turn in on however, i begins to run scripts but then flashes and stops on a screen with a nook filled with an exclamation point and says restart nook. please help or send email @ thoseguys1@aol.com

  • @ThePhilmango1 can you shoot a cell video and post it? never seen that before

  • @albertcwertz I had the same problem as ThePhilmango, and filmed it for you. It's uploaded under my account. Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • @Thefirstkraigb take out your sdcard, try 8 failed boots and see what it does now. if boots up check version number. if still 1.4.1, try recopy files and try again. Did yours come with 1.4.1 or was it 1.4.0 when you purchased it?

  • I have tried numerous times to get my NT from 1.4.1 to 1.4.0. I formatted SD card, downloaded Stock Recovery, copied and placed file on SD card, put card back into NT, and....nothing. It does not automatically boot up with it. If I click on the SD icon on the bottom to browse content, all the files are there but the icons are white w/red ? on them. If I click on files it says " This NOOK cannot read this file. It may be an unsupported format." I am using a SanDisk 8G Micro SDHC card. HELP!!!

  • @bugnuzi2 try a 2gb $5 micro sd card from walmart. people said they had luck with this

  • I tried probably 10 times with a SanDisk Micro SD card and I could never get the Nook Tablet to boot straight into Recovery. I tried my PNY Micro SD card and it worked. So if you are having troubles, definitely try a different Micro SD card.

  • So frustrated with this thing. I can't even get the file to download right. I have the option to open or save. I've tried both. It doesn't give me the "in file" option, I can open it, which I did and then copied it to the SD card. Where yours says coping 1 item, mine says copying 753. I went ahead and tried it anyway, copied everything to the card and nothing happened. It booted just the same, and still 1.4.1!

  • @staceya0716 you have to copy it over unopened. do not unzip the file

  • @albertcwertz It wasn't giving me that option, I could only run, save or cancel to begin with. I decided to try it again and now the link is redirecting me to that gooinside me site. I can't even figure out how to try to download from there. I think I'm giving up LOL

  • @staceya0716 You should be saving the file, when you click on Acclaim Update(Stock Recovery) wait 10 seconds and it should prompt you to save/open the zip, after that just drag the zip to the sd and boot it on your nook from there.

  • Thanks for the great videos and all the xda ninjas as well!

  • i forgot my email too nd my passcode how can i get it back please help...

  • @firefoxonme what email and password? for what? if it is for your nook account then you need to take it up with barnes and noble

  • i just got this for xmas, so would my tablet be 1.4.1? how can i check? and is reverting to 1.4.0 the only possible method for rooting? thank u

  • @jina1071 watch the video. i go through the menus in it and show you where version numbers are

  • i have an sd card with the file on it and i stick it in and turn it on and it's not restoring to 1.4.0

  • @mattdalley1 some sd cards have been shown to not work, see xda forums to see if yours is one that might have this problem

  • should I unmount the card before I take it out, or can I just remove it and replace it with another?

  • Do you have to keep the same sd card you used to change the device manager in the nook?

  • @antnapsprincess you have to use a SDcard. doesnt have to be the same one.

  • hey i have a question i forgot my passcode and i dont know how to get it back can u please help thank you

  • @firefoxonme which password? Barnes and Noble? go to website and click forgot passcode and they will email new one

  • will you still have your purchased books and games from the noble store after doing this? :)

  • understood. i will leave my comment up just for people to see your reply so that they can know.

  • After much research and failed tries at rooting my nook color I have finally succeeded! I'm currently typing this from my nook color flashed with cm7 and overclocked to 1.1ghz .All I did was create a bootable micro sdcard with clockwork version 3.0.2.8 and put it in my Nook COLOR. The guide I used says that it works for all versions of Nook.Idk if that includes tablet .pm me for links. The secret my friends is perseverance.

  • @emmanue1tv Nook Color hacks DO NOT work for Nook Tablet. The nook tablet has addittional security blocks that the nook color does not. Comments like this are not helpful to the nook tablet customers. please do a little research before offering these things.

  • You don't have to reboot the NT for free Titanium to work. All you have to do is press menu > more > reload application. That will reload Titanium and allow you to restore the device manager service.

  • @MisterJimJim you can do this or just long hold app icon in app drawer and then go to either manage option or settings for app then click clear data, close out and restart app

  • does this work for the Nook Color too or just the Nook Tablet?

  • @emmanue1tv no, only tablet

  • @albertcwertz what if i have 1.4.1 on the nook color?

  • @emmanue1tv whats a nook color? ;) I dont own one.

  • hey thanks for the video. what if i format my sd, but still have golauncher and other apps installed on the internal memory of the nook? should i erase and deregister before running this process?? thanx a million... my nook updated at night while it was charging without even me knowing -.-

  • @ammarsuleman I can only attest to the process I followed. I dont know if changing it will change the result. Try it and post back here ;)

  • @albertcwertz Hey, it worked perfectly even with golauncher and all the other apps installed, though i did uninstall homecatcher just as a precautionary measure since some people in xda were saying it interfered with this process. Another question... I have successfully installed 1.4.0 and tgps launcher and enabled usb debugging/unknown source apps. Now, if i use the same computer that i initially used to root it to run this rooting process, do i have to download usbdrivers again?

  • @ammarsuleman I didnt in the video

  • soo. how do i get to the link? you got 2 one to a q and a thread and the other to another video, im trying to find adam atler in the xda forums but no luck

  • @rugald009 updated description

  • Comment removed

  • i got it the free titanium to work.. juz reboot the NT, toggle debugging mode again and then the batch restore is there! hope it helps!

  • @skeang TY!
